Sweden vs England preview: Free betting tips, odds and predictions for Women's EURO 2025

ENGLAND clash with Sweden in the quarter-finals of Euro 2025 as the Lionesses look to continue the defence of their title. SunSport betting experts have previewed the contest and selected the best bets, tips and exclusive sign-up bonuses from our leading betting partners. Sweden vs England preview We've reached the business end of the UEFA Women's EURO 2025, with England up against Sweden in Thursday's quarter-final tie at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich, Switzerland. It was a shaky start to their title defence, but England's opening defeat to France is now firmly in the rearview mirror following two emphatic Group D victories. The Lionesses dispatched the Netherlands 4-0 before running riot against Wales in a resounding 6-1 win on Sunday. Despite those wins, England finished second in their group - but it appears that's worked out well, with Sarina Wiegman's side avoiding the tougher side of the draw, including the likes of Germany and Spain. Should England navigate their way past Sweden, they will face either Norway or Italy in the semi-finals - both ranked outside FIFA's top 12 in the world rankings. But first, they must beat Sweden in a repeat of the Euro 2022 semi-final, which the Lionesses won 4-0 in emphatic style. Wiegman's side are favourites heading into the contest, and it's clear why, having netted 10 and conceded just once in their last two outings. However, Sweden have started strongly in Switzerland and registered a statement 4-1 win over Germany on Saturday to top Group C, picking up nine points from their three matches. They have also lost only one of their last five games against England at the UEFA Women's EURO (W3 D1) - and are enjoying a run of 15 games unbeaten (W11 D4), netting 43 goals in the process. These two sides aren't lacking goals in this competition. Sweden have netted eight in their three group matches, while England have scored 11. In the group stage of UEFA Women's EURO 2025, no team recorded a higher expected goals figure than England and Sweden (both 9.34 xG). Sweden vs England preview betting tips and predictions Draw A tough-fought encounter? We think so. The two sides look extremely well-matched, both hitting peak form at exactly the right moment. As mentioned, England bounced back from their defeat to France in emphatic style, netting 10 goals against the Netherlands and Wales. However, Sweden have now won each of their last five games on the bounce and made a real statement as betting underdogs against Germany over the weekend. The last two matches between Sweden and England (both in qualification in 2024) ended level (0-0 and 1-1), and we expect a similar outcome on Thursday, with the match likely to be resolved in extra time or the dreaded penalties. Goalscorer We backed Arsenal striker Alessia Russo to break her tournament duck and get on the scoresheet against Wales last time out - and we're expecting another strike from the WSL's top goalscorer on Thursday. Russo, 26, netted England's fourth against the Welsh. She leads the way for shots on target (3) and off target (5) for England and has struck twice in her last three matches against Sweden - including the Euro 2022 semi-final. (AP Photo/Martin Meissner) ST. GALLEN, Switzerland (AP) — In a game of soccer or any sport, Wales always wants to beat England. At the Women's European Championship on Sunday, Wales can eliminate the defending champion English just with a draw in the final round of Group D games. Group leader France plays the third-placed Netherlands at the same time. Advertisement 'As a Welsh woman, do you want to knock England out? Of course you do,' captain Angharad James said on Saturday. 'It's in our blood, it's in our DNA. 'There's no hiding behind the history of Wales versus England, whatever sport you are playing in. It's a rivalry match.' Wales, like all of England's neighbors in the United Kingdom, takes extra satisfaction in those sporting victories, with its longest tradition being in men's rugby. It makes sense to Wales coach Rhian Wilkinson, a former Canada international player whose mother is Welsh. 'As a Canadian next to the U.S. I can understand big rivalries,' Wilkinson said. 'This will only benefit the women's game.' Advertisement France tops the group with six points, England and the Netherlands have three and Wales is on zero after back-to-back big losses. Wales has never beaten England in 10 previous meetings and has only the longest of shots to finish second in the standings with a first victory on Sunday. Its more likely role is blocking England's path to the quarterfinals. England can rise above France and finish top, yet also could secure second place — and a quarterfinal against Sweden — with a win, draw or even a loss. 'My women,' Wales coach Wilkinson said, 'get to show up and spoil the party and that's a wonderful job to have.' Advertisement Welsh hearts and souls will be on display when its anthem is sung rousingly before kickoff in the stadium at St. Gallen, though England defender Alex Greenwood said her own team and fans should not be underestimated. 'If you want to speak about passion I think the English are very, very passionate people,' Greenwood said. 'The atmosphere is going to be great and something we should all look forward to.' ___ AP soccer:

The lowdown on UEFA Women's EURO 2025 Day 1️⃣1️⃣

The group stage at the UEFA Women's EURO is set to conclude this weekend, but there's still eight teams yet to decide their fate. Before we get into today's action, what happened yesterday? ⏮️ Group B was determined on Friday night, with Spain the only team certain of a place in the knockout rounds heading into their final group stage match. Advertisement Montse Tomé's side solidified their place at the top of the standings with a comfortable 3-1 win over Italy, although Le Azzurre still claimed second in the group as Portugal failed to beat Belgium, losing 2-1 in Sion. Who is playing today? 👀 With the final group matches kicking off concurrently, all of Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Poland will be in action at the same time. Sweden face Germany in Zürich in a bid to clinch top spot in group C, with kick off at 9pm Central European Time. Neither Poland or Denmark have a chance of reaching the knockout stage, but both will be determined to end their campaigns on a positive note. Advertisement Poland are one of two debutants at this year's championships, alongside Wales, and will hope to register their first ever win at a major tournament. Player to watch 🔎 There will be plenty of big name stars in action when Germany take on Sweden in a battle for top spot, but one to keep an eye on is Jule Brand. The 22-year-old Wolfsburg midfielder has delivered one goal and two assists for Germany so far at the EUROs. Brand is a player for the big stage and will hope to continue her positive start to the campaign on Saturday night. Key storyline 🔑 With the qualifiers from group C already decided heading into this evening's games, all eyes will be on who clinches top spot. Advertisement The order of first and second will not be determined or impacted by other results in the group, with Germany and Sweden set to go head to head. Christian Wück's side must beat Sweden in order to finish in top spot due to their inferior goal difference. Must-watch video 🎥 Italy were in celebration mode on Friday night, despite their 3-1 loss at the hands of Spain. At the full-time whistle, the phones came out and they gathered to catch the final few minutes of Portugal's meeting with Belgium in Sion. In the 96th minute, Janice Cayman scored a winner for Belgium to guarantee Italy's place in the quarter-finals. Fun facts 📊 Lea Schüller has scored 14 goals in her last 12 matches for club and country. Sweden and Germany last met in a friendly in 2023, which ended in a goalless draw. Poland are one of two teams yet to find the back of the net at the EUROs this summer, alongside Iceland. Denmark and Poland last faced each other in a EUROs qualifying match in 2016, a game Denmark won 6-0. (Photo by CESAR MANSO / AFP) (Photo by CESAR MANSO/AFP via Getty Images) There are just 50 days until the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 soccer tournament kicks off in Switzerland. Whether you are one of the 550,000 people who have bought tickets to attend a match or are hosting a watch party at home, there are easy ways to reduce your environmental footprint, from how you travel, to what you eat and reducing waste. This year's tournament is expected to break records for attendance and viewership, riding the momentum of women's sports' rapid global growth. Larger numbers mean a bigger environmental footprint, and organisers will publish data on this 100 days after the final match. UEFA have highlighted environmental sustainability as a key factor to the tournament's success. Many players agree, as we have seen them take accountability for their carbon footprint to tournaments, push back on heavy-carbon sponsors and research the impacts of climate change on the women's game. Alongside organisers and athletes, fans also have the opportunity to step up to help ensure that the beautiful game doesn't come at the planet's expense. Fan travel is frequently cited as the largest environmental impact from a soccer match, so working to reduce these emissions is vital. On Women's EURO 2025 match days, tournament tickets will be valid for free second-class public-transport travel between any Swiss locality and the venue. The organiser's goal is to sell all 673,000 available tickets and surpass the average match attendance of Women's EURO 2022. So far, 550,000 match tickets have been sold, to people from over 100 countries, with tournament organisers expecting around two-thirds of attendees to be Swiss. Matches are taking place in eight venues across Switzerland, from St Gallen to Geneva, leading to a lot of carbon emitted from international and national travel. Spectators heading to matches can take advantage of the inclusion of public transport in their ticket and avoid the stress of driving and parking, save money and get into the festival atmosphere with other travelling fans. Accommodation impacts the size of travel carbon footprint, so fans can look out for green credentials or certifications when booking their hotel to reduce this too. Tip: Plan your route in advance to see which trains, trams, and buses you need to reach the stadium or fan zone. Tournament organisers are prioritising the '4Rs' of reduce, reuse, recycle and recover when it comes to products and packaging at all games. It is up to the stadiums to ensure they reduce waste and recover materials and leftover food, but fans can help by properly disposing of waste at venues as part of recycling efforts. Many stadiums will be equipped with clearly marked recycling stations and sustainability reminders. Availability of vegan and vegetarian food options and products are part of UEFA's sustainability strategy for Women's EURO 2025, so look out for delicious food options that will slash your carbon footprint at concessions during games. Tip: Go for veggie food options, choose reusable cups and follow recycling rules at matches The first dedicated 'Fan Forum' for supporter representatives from all 16 participating nations was hosted recently, to help supporters' groups plan ahead. Topics included fan walks to stadiums, learning about fan zones and sustainability issues. UEFA Women's Euro 2025 Tournament Director Doris Keller gestures in Bern on March 8, 2024, during a ... Tip: Contact your local supporter group to find out more about planned fan walks or to learn about sustainability efforts Global broadcast coverage, and streaming on are expected to deliver record media reach for Women's EURO 2025. To make your watch party sustainable, avoid single use or plastic decorations that you will throw away after the tournament and ask friends to wear soccer shirts that they already own. From vegan tacos, loaded potato skins and plant-based pizzas, making lower-carbon delicious party-style food has never been easier. Remember to have some freezer space at the ready to save any leftovers and reduce food waste. Tip: Get into the spirit of the tournament by asking friends to bring a plant-based food option from the countries competing in the match you're watching Fans have a unique opportunity to champion sustainability alongside their team at this year's UEFA Women's EURO. Whether attending matches or hosting watch parties at home, supporters can make eco-friendly choices that align with the tournament's sustainability objectives. By embracing sustainable travel options, reducing waste, and engaging in community initiatives, fans can contribute to a tournament legacy that celebrates both the spirit of football and the health of our planet.
