UFC on ESPN 69 results: Raoni Barcelos struggles for takedowns, outworks Cody Garbrandt
UFC on ESPN 69 results: Raoni Barcelos struggles for takedowns, outworks Cody Garbrandt Raoni Barcelos gana por decisión unánime y consigue su tercera victoria consecutiva 💪 #UFCAtlanta — UFC Español (@UFCEspanol) June 15, 2025 It wasn't always pretty, but after he pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, Raoni Barcelos added a former champion to his resume. Barcelos (20-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC) outworked ex-bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt (14-7 MMA, 9-7 UFC) for a unanimous decision Saturday on the main card at UFC on ESPN 69 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Brazilian won with a trio of 29-28 scores. Garbrandt came out swinging in a hurry and got inside a couple times in the first 20 seconds, only to have Barcelos briefly dump him to the canvas. That slowed Garbrandt down after his quick early pace, but 75 seconds in Garbrandt stung Barcelos with a punch and put him on the canvas. The former champ let the Brazilian back up, and they eventually tied up on the fence. Barcelos broke away with a knee. When Barcelos tried to wrestle a couple times, Garbrandt stuffed the takedown attempts, then went after some bigger offense and just missed with a couple that may have ended things. Garbrandt stuffed the first four of Barcelos' takedown attempts, but found himself on his back late after a scramble – and one that may have influenced the judges. Barcelos looked for a takedown early in the second, but Garbrandt stuffed him again. Barcelos threatened with knees along the fence after several scrambles, but midway through the second still was unable to get the fight to the canvas. Despite that, he controlled the pace without much resistance from Garbrandt, who was stuck on the outside fighting backward the bulk of the round. Barcelos appeared to be in control in the third until a late Garbrandt rally, but he never put enough together to be a true threat before the horn. Although Garbrandt stuffed 10 of Barcelos' 11 takedown attempts, defense wasn't enough. Barcelos won for the third straight time. Although he was a betting favorite Saturday, he was a massive underdog for an upset of Payton Talbott earlier this year. Garbrandt dropped his second straight. UFC Kansas City: Joselyne Edwards confident she can KO or submit Chelsea Chandler
UFC Kansas City: Joselyne Edwards confident she can KO or submit Chelsea Chandler Joselyne Edwards believes she's got the toolset to become the first person to finish Chelsea Chandler in MMA. Joselyne Edwards is confident that a statement win is coming this weekend in her return to the octagon. The Panamanian UFC women's bantamweight sees herself doing what no one has been able to do against Chelsea Chandler – get a stoppage win. Edwards (14-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) and Chandler (6-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) collide on the preliminary card of Saturday's UFC on ESPN 66 (ESPN2, ESPN+), which takes place at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. Edwards knows one of Chandler's biggest attributes is her durability, but feels her threat level is beyond that. "Honestly, I have it all to win this fight," Edwards said, speaking to UFC Español. "I'm training hard. It's true that she's a strong fighter, very big. I'm not scared of anyone. I don't feel like she's better than me, and I have a lot more to give than her. I feel like I can finish her, knock her out. This fight is ending by finish, I'm sure of that. "You guys have seen my progress in UFC. I've been improving my striking and grappling and my submissions, you saw it in my last fight. I'm coming with everything, and I'm going to rip her head or leg off and do whatever it takes to move up the ranking." Edwards revealed that she specifically asked to fight Chandler, as she sees a good opportunity to get a win over a ranked opponent, and get herself a spot in the UFC official women's bantamweight rankings. She doesn't want to get too ahead of herself, but she doesn't see title contention as a very hard thing to attain in the division. Edwards believes it's all about making the right decisions, which she feels she's doing. "I don't see it that difficult, but you do have to be very strategic about things in order to get to the title," Edwards said. "I've said it, once I get in the rankings, I'm going to start climbing and start looking for fights, and that's what I'm doing. Many fighters say, 'Oh, I want to fight for the title,' and yet they're not even in the rankings. You need to first get in the rankings, and then climb up."

Victor Henry has plans to stick around awhile after UFC Vegas 105 – even if his mom won't watch
LAS VEGAS – Victor Henry beat Pedro Falcao with a unanimous decision Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC on ESPN 65 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Take a look inside the fight with Henry, who bounced back after a loss to Charles Jourdain this past November – so far the only stoppage loss on his resume. Victor Henry def. Pedro Falcao Result: Victor Henry def. Pedro Falcao via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) Updated records: Henry (25-7 MMA, 4-2 UFC), Falcao (16-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) Key stats: Henry landed twice as many total strikes as Falcao, though he was taken down four times. Henry on the fight's key moment '(I'd grade myself) a 7 out of 10, 6.5 out of 10. There were some spots where, meh – I could've finished it here. Hindsight is 20/20 – there were some spots in there I could've done more. … I didn't want to speak it into existence, but my arms were dead.' 🫡 Victor Henry se lleva la victoria por decisión unánime #UFCVegas105 — UFC Español (@UFCEspanol) April 5, 2025 Henry on his mom not watching his fights 'Whenever I get a second (after a fight), I call my mom. My mom doesn't watch me fight live because she's afraid of it. She went to one taekwondo tournament when I was a kid. She goes, 'Never again. Never again.' I said, 'Why?' She goes, 'Because that's my baby beating up on somebody else's baby, or it's someone else's baby beating up on my baby.' She goes, 'I'm not going to watch that. You call me afterward and let me know you're OK and we'll be all right.'' Henry on what he wants next 'The UFC has a habit of having me fight two times a year. I'd like to hopefully re-sign, get another contract. This was my third fight – I have one more fight on the contract. I'd like to get two more this year and three next year.' 'I think there's things I could've done better.' Victor Henry (@VictorHenryMMA) sees plenty of room to grow after his impressive win over Pedro Falcao at #UFCVegas105. Sam Hughes isn't sure how latest confidence-boosting win was split call at UFC Fight Night 254
LAS VEGAS – Sam Hughes beat Stephanie Luciano with a split decision Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC Fight Night 254 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Take a look inside the fight with Hughes, who has won five of her past seven after an 0-3 start to her UFC tenure. Result: Sam Hughes def. Stephanie Luciano via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-27) Updated records: Hughes (10-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC), Luciano (6-2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) Key stats: Hughes outstruck Luciano 146-101 and had more than four minutes of control time from her three takedowns. "That was 100 percent the game plan – I have to be a pressure fighter. If I let her fight at range, she's longer than me. That was the wrong thing to do. The whole thing was to just get in, beat her up, lots of takedowns. I tried to get the finish in the second, but I just couldn't put her away." Sam Hughes gana por Decisión dividida en #UFCVegas104 🙌🏻🙌🏻 — UFC Español (@UFCEspanol) March 15, 2025 "I've never been like, 'Man, that was close.' I was so confident. I know I won this fight. So that felt really good." "I've actually been thinking about this quite a bit. This was my night. I've been the underdog in all 10 fights in the UFC, and this was my fight to showcase: Hey guys, I'm here. I came in 0-3 (in the UFC), but I'm going to give it hell. I'm going to follow the game plan to a T, but I don't care if I have to make it scrappy. I don't care if I have to make it a dogfight. If anything, my half-Mexican blood is like, 'Hell yeah – let's make it dirty.' 'Cause I like making it dirty. "Whatever's next – my birthday's June 28, and that's International Fight Week. So that would be pretty cool. I'd like to stay pretty busy (with) three fights this year, but we'll see what Sayif (Saud) says and see what Dana (White), Hunter (Campbell) and Mick (Maynard) and Sean (Shelby) want to put me."
