UP to recover Rs 8.55 lakh demolition cost from conversion racket accused Chhangur Baba, aides
The Balrampur district administration will recover Rs 8.55 lakh from Jalaluddin and his associates to cover the demolition expenses of unauthorized structures built on government land. NEW DELHI: The Balrampur district administration will recover Rs 8.55 lakh from Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba and his associates for expenses incurred during the demolition of unauthorised structures built on government land, officials said on Monday. District Magistrate Pawan Agarwal said the encroachments were on plots 370 and 337 in Madhpur village near Utraula town. Despite being served notices to vacate within a week, the accused failed to comply, prompting a three-day demolition drive using eight bulldozers. 'Notices for recovery of Rs 8.55 lakh are being issued. If they fail to pay, legal action will be taken,' Agarwal said. The demolition came days after the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) secured custody of Jalaluddin, the alleged mastermind of a forced religious conversion racket. He and co-accused Neetu alias Nasreen were arrested on July 5 and are in ATS custody till July 16. An ATS team also visited his mansion last week to collect evidence. Authorities said Jalaluddin's son Mehboob and another accused, Naveen alias Jamaluddin — both already arrested — were part of a network allegedly converting Hindus and non-Muslims to Islam. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier termed the accused's actions 'anti-social' and 'anti-national'.

Arvind Kejriwal says he deserves Nobel prize for governance and administration
India Today reports on the arrest of Pir Baba Jalaluddin alias Changur Baba in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly running a Rs 100 crore forced religious conversion racket. The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad has uncovered a network that lured and manipulated Hindu and Sikh women to convert to Islam, with different rates fixed for converting girls from different castes. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called the accused an 'anti-national' and 'executioner'. The Enforcement Directorate and National Investigation Agency are now probing suspected foreign funding links. Victims have shared accounts of being trapped through false identities and then blackmailed. The case has reignited debates on 'love jihad' and forced conversions in India. In another incident, an Indian Air Force Jaguar deep penetration strike aircraft crashed near Churu in Rajasthan, killing both the pilot and co-pilot. This marks the third Jaguar crash in 2025, following incidents in Ambala and Jamnagar earlier this year. The aircraft had taken off from Suratgarh base for a routine training mission. The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry to investigate the cause. Experts discuss potential reasons for the crash, including bird hits, technical failures, or controlled flight into terrain. The incident raises questions about the aging Jaguar fleet, which has been in service since 1979 and is slated for phaseout between 2028-2032.
