Others too need alliance in UP, not just Cong: Raj Babbar
Not just the Congress but others too need an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to win the election, said former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar on Saturday. Former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar (HT File Photo) 'The alliance isn't just Congress's responsibility but others too have to be in it equally,' said Babbar. Raj Babbar came to preside over the oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed district and city unit office-bearers of the Lucknow Congress. Babbar was UP Congress president in July 2016 and was replaced by Aj Kumar Lallu in October 2019 after he resigned. 'They should be in it (alliance) if they want to defeat the opponent you are contesting elections against, and you want to be the power to defeat them,' he said without taking the name of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 'The alliance will be made on ground according to the situation (in the future) and not on the basis of the past,' he said. 'At present we are focused upon organisational strengthening (sangathan srijan) and the process is being done in the most transparent manner,' he said, adding, 'There are no faces that you can say belong to a particular group. The entire process is under a coordination committee and the aim is to unite with like-minded people who are loyal with the party and connect with old associates also in a strong manner. Sangathan Srijan will enhance credibility among workers and encourage accountability.' Commenting upon the political implications of the caste census Babbar said that it is going to change the scenario. 'Naturally. You may do anything or not but people, once they know their status via census, will raise demands. Here, the lines by Lohia are most relevant: Jiski Jitni Hissedari Uski Utni Bhagidari (share on the basis of population). 'The caste census is certainly going to change the upcoming political scenario in the state as we will get a clear picture of the Hissedari, the demand for Bhagidari will also become clear. It will impact the elections,' said Babbar. Asked about the state government's move demanding shopkeepers on the Kanwar route to display name and identity, Babbar said, 'Why is this being demanded during the Kanwar Yatra. If necessary, it should be for all times. Kanwar Yatra has been taking place for years and all respect it.' Responding to the recent language row in Maharashtra, Babbar said, 'It is the government's job to handle such issues with maturity, not provoke the people.'

Work to defeat communal, casteist forces: Babbar
Lucknow: Former chief of UP Congress and ex-MP Raj Babbar on Saturday urged newly included party office-bearers to commit themselves to the party and work with full dedication to defeat communal and casteist forces. He urged them to maintain social harmony and brotherhood, protect the Constitution from anti-constitutional forces, and work according to the Congress ideology and Gandhian principles. "This is the only way to deliver social justice to the oppressed, exploited and deprived sections of society," he said, speaking at the oath-taking ceremony organised as part of the ongoing organisational creation campaign. He also congratulated them on their new roles. Stating that hatred was being spread under BJP rule in an organised way, Babbar said: "In such times, it is the duty of every Congress worker to push Gandhian principles, which are deeply embedded in the Congress ideology." He emphasised that choosing the path of non-violence was the only way to keep the nation united. "You must work with complete confidence and trust. You must always keep the Congress, like a vast tree, flourishing. Strengthen your identity to such an extent that your name is cheered," he said. Senior party office bearers were present on the occasion.

Speeding SUV crashes into house injuring residents
Lucknow: A speeding SUV, allegedly with a BJP block chief sticker and an Uttarakhand number plate, rammed into a house in Santguru Ravidas Nagar late Tuesday leaving two residents injured and triggering a political row. The vehicle ploughed through a shop front and boundary wall around 1:50 am, crashing into the living quarters of Vijay and his wife, Gyanmati. The couple's shop and household items were severely damaged while Vijay and their son, Deepak, suffered minor injuries. The vehicle also hit and injured one of its passengers, but the remaining three occupants, including a woman, fled the scene, said police. The incident took place under the Hazratganj police station limits. SHO Vikram Singh said an FIR was registered based on a written complaint from Gyanmati. The vehicle was seized, and legal action is underway under BNS sections 281 (rash driving), 125(b) (causing damage), and 324(5) (causing hurt by dangerous means). "Four people, including the driver, have been booked," he added. Police also recovered liquor bottles and other intoxicants from the SUV. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was being driven recklessly at high speed. "There were three men and a woman inside the vehicle. All appeared intoxicated. One remained inside the vehicle with injuries while others managed to escape," a senior officer at the scene said. The Congress party accused the BJP of promoting a culture of impunity. "Beer bottles on the dashboard, drunk BJP men fleeing after wrecking a house—this is the true face of the ruling party," the UP Congress posted on X.

Congress accuses BJP govt of damaging Hindu religious sites
1 2 Lucknow: UP Congress leaders on Tuesday accused the BJP govt of playing with Hindu religious sites in the name of redevelopment. "All ancient cities around the world have preserved their original form, whether it is Egypt or Venice. Only the BJP govt is re-designing old cultural and religious sites," said UP Congress president Ajay Rai at a press conference. Citing the example of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, he said: "Scores of temples around the main shrine were demolished in the name of beautification. An age-old banyan tree was cut down without any regard for the feelings of the people." He said now the govt was eyeing the Vindhyavasini temple in Mirzapur and was out to expand the narrow lanes of Vrindavan. "The BJP govt is turning revered religious pilgrimages into tourist or picnic spots," he said. Rai was accompanied by several residents of Vrindavan who expressed deep resentment. "There are 285 families connected to Thakur Ji's temple, and their homes and small temples are being demolished. People are being threatened by police and administration," said Sohanlal Mishra, a priest whose family was associated with the deity for 500 years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo Another resident, Deepak Parashar, said: "The govt intends to disrupt rather than create order. The essence of Vrindavan is its narrow lanes. There is a large vacant space near Banke Bihari Temple that could be incorporated into the temple to create arrangements without destroying Vrindavan." He also lamented that while the govt failed to provide three essential things—easy access to the deity, drinking water and toilets—now it is planning to demolish 150 temples. Rai said: "The govt is pressurising the people, which is why they came to express their grievances. We will stand firmly with the people of Vrindavan."
