Construction firm penalised for slow pace of CETP construction
Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh took cognisance of the slow construction process of the 20 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) and ordered immediate realisation of a Rs 30 lakh penalty from the construction company VA Tech Wabag.
The DM was reviewing the progress of the CETP with the project manager, secretary JETTA and other departmental officials on Thursday evening. The project manager informed the meeting that during the past 55 days, the construction work of the CETP had been very slow and said that a penalty of Rs 30 lakh had already been imposed earlier.
All work should be completed at war level and secretary JETTA has to ensure the realisation of the penalty, Singh said. When the officials said that around 80 tanneries have not made payment on their part, an annoyed DM directed that the list of defaulters be sent to the UP Pollution Control Board headquarters . He reprimanded the company VA Tech Wabag for its negligence in sludge management.
The DM further directed the JETTA secretary to prepare a detailed report of the obstacles being faced in CETP operation and send it immediately to the "Namami Gange Project Office" through a letter, to resolve the issues.
