KK Pathak, a senior IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, currently serves as Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. Widely respected for his no-nonsense administrative style and distinguished academic background, he has been instrumental in implementing several notable reforms. During his tenure as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Education Department in Bihar, his decisions frequently attracted public attention. His name became familiar across generations, from schoolchildren to senior citizens. Arunish Chawla, a 1992 batch Bihar cadre officer, is renowned for his dedication, strong administrative acumen, and deep understanding of economic policy. Hailing from a small village in Haryana, he holds MSc and PhD degrees from the London School of Economics. He cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination at the age of just 23, beginning his career as an Assistant Collector in Palamu district (now in Jharkhand) in 1993. He later served as District Magistrate in Kaimur, Aurangabad, and Jehanabad. He currently serves as Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management. Chanchal Kumar, also a 1992 batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, is presently the Secretary of the Ministry for Development of the North Eastern Region. A native of Madhubani district, he holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, as well as a Master's in International Development Policy and Applied Economics from Duke University, USA. He has previously served as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Sandeep Paundrik, a 1993 batch officer of the Bihar cadre, is currently Secretary in the Ministry of Steel. Originally from Rajasthan, he holds an engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and is known for being active on social media. He is widely regarded as a sharp and efficient officer. Sunil Barthwal, a 1989 batch IAS officer, serves as Secretary in the Department of Commerce and Industry. He previously held the position of Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. An alumnus of St. Stephen's College, Delhi (BA Hons in Economics), he also holds an MA in Economics from JNU and a postgraduate diploma in Economics and Competition Law from King's College, London. He has served on the boards of major public sector companies including SAIL, NMDC, MECON, MSTC, and NIIF. Anshuli Arya, also from the 1989 batch, currently holds the post of Secretary in the Department of Official Language. Her previous roles include Principal Secretary-cum-Mines Commissioner in Bihar and Administrator of the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under the Department of Telecommunications. She is the daughter of Professor Anand Swaroop Arya, in whose honour an Institute Chair Professorship was instituted at IIT Roorkee. 7/8 Sanjay Kumar, a 1990 batch IAS officer from Bihar, is Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education. He has served in various key departments, including as Principal Secretary in both the Education and Health Departments in Bihar. He is known for his sharp administrative skills and effective leadership.

Aasu to sponsor coaching of 40 UPSC aspirants from NE in Delhi every year

Guwahati: All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) on Monday announced a major initiative to provide special support to 40 UPSC aspirants from Assam and the northeast. They will be offered free coaching at selected Delhi institutes. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While the results for Assam in the UPSC-conducted civil services examination were not promising in the recent past, this year saw a drastic fall in the number of candidates from Assam and the northeast who qualified in the UPSC civil services final examination. On Monday, Aasu announced that every year, it will send 26 students from Assam and 14 students from other northeastern states, through the North East Student Organization (NESO) for training for the UPSC-conducted civil services examination in Delhi. In the first step of the project, this year, under the "Pratyasha" project, 25 candidates from Assam who succeeded in the UPSC prelims will be provided assistance for the main exam. The student union will cover all expenses for these 25 candidates to receive online or offline training at their chosen institution. Interested candidates who succeeded in the preliminary stage can apply by filling out a form on the student union's website The application process will continue until Jun 29. In the first week of July, assistance will be provided to 25 selected candidates. Candidate who have already enrolled in institutions for training can also apply, and the student union will provide assistance with training costs as much as possible. "They will receive training at selected institutions in Delhi. A special arrangement will be made to select and send these candidates to Delhi. Aasu has devised a special plan to encourage students and youth from Assam to appear in the civil services examination and to create a cadre of efficient administrative officers from Assam. To advance this plan, the student union will proceed with advice from former Dibrugarh University VC Alak Kumar Buragohain, Assam Skill University VC Subhas Chandra Das, retired IAS officer Himangshu Sekhar Das, retired senior officer of Indian Railways Robin Kalita, and some former and current civil service officers. During the training in Delhi, the All Assamese Students' Association New Delhi will coordinate the efforts. Notably, in 2001-02, Aasu supported a group of candidates for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, one of whom succeeded in the exam. This time, Aasu said their mission is more elaborate and planned. "Over the years, the number of qualifiers has been gradually decreasing. This has concerned both the people of Assam and Aasu. Various student groups and university groups of Aasu have been organising training camps for competitive exams from time to time. IAS Srushti Deshmukh, born in 1995, hailing from Kasturba Nagar in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, secured an All-India Rank(AIR) 5 in the 2018 UPSC Civil Services Examination. In addition, she became the top female candidate in the UPSC CSE Result 2018. She cracked the UPSC exam on her first attempt, without any coaching, reportedly at just 23 years old. While Srishti's talent and efforts gave her the recognition she deserved. Her simplicity drew everyone's attention as well. In 2022, when she married her batchmate, IAS Dr. Nagarjun B. Gowda, she won over hearts again as a pretty bride. Check the photos below. The UPSC officers Srushti Deshmukh and Nagarjun Gowda established their friendship during their training phase, while they had a notable following on social media platforms. The pair got engaged in August 2021 after spending more than two years together before getting married in April 2022. The couple currently works in Madhya Pradesh. The IAS officer from Karnataka named Nagarjun Gowda achieved an outstanding All India Rank of 418 when he passed the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2018. Srushti Deshmukh, a 29-year-old IAS officer, always shares her pictures on Instagram. In one such picture she wore a lovely pink saree, her Marathi look with her hairline adorned with a sindoor, a bindi on her forehead, bangles all over her wrists, and all the jewelry, including nose ring and necklace to match, she was ageless and beautiful. In this picture, Srushti is seen in her very traditional South Indian look. She wore a red Kanjivaram saree, and her husband wore a crisp white ethnic outfit. The saree had a broad golden border and had patchwork on the whole saree. She donned a matching blouse and all her gold jewelry was beautifully traditional all together, her South Indian saree look was incredible. Despite the great competition and unfathomable effort that candidates exert towards UPSC preparation, many candidates take a leap of faith and chase this dream while juggling a job, family, and other commitments. Dr. Pragati Verma, who obtained AIR 355 for UPSC 2023, is one of these impressive individuals, with a great story to tell, demonstrating if you are sufficiently dedicated and have the right mindset, you can achieve even the biggest goals, regardless of circumstances. What makes her accomplishment even more outstanding is that she did this while working at a hospital and preparing for her exams, demonstrating her ability to handle both work responsibilities and intense preparation efforts. Dr. Pragati Verma, who achieved All India Rank(AIR) 355 in the UPSC 2023 examination, is from Meham sub-division in the Rohtak district of Haryana. Speaking about her educational qualification, Pragati finished her schooling from Meham, did MBBS from PGIMS Rohtak, and pursued MD in Radiodiagnosis at PGIMER Chandigarh. After her postgraduation, she worked as a Senior Resident at AIIMS Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh for one year. After one year, she married Dr. Atul Verma. The couple is blessed with a son, named Rajvardhan Verma. After marriage, she worked in private and corporate hospitals in Kurukshetra as a Radiology Consultant while simultaneously preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. As per a report of News18 Hindi, Dr. Pragati Verma started her UPSC preparation in May 2021 and subsequently appeared for the 2021 Preliminary exam a few months later. However, she narrowly missed qualifying by approximately 10 marks. She did not let it stop her from repeatedly strategizing her preparation and in her second attempt, passed Prelims, Mains, Interview, and got an All India Rank of 740. She belonged to the OBC category. She obtained 756 marks in the written examination and 171 marks in the personality test. Overall, she secured 927 marks in the UPSC Civil Services(Main) Examination, 2022. Her All India Rank(AIR) was 740. With an aim to be in the IAS, she sat for the UPSC 2023 exam and got AIR 355. She obtained 787 marks in the written examination and 175 marks in the personality test. Overall, she secured 962 marks in the UPSC Civil Services(Main) Examination, 2023. Her All India Rank(AIR) was 355. In 2023, Dr Pragati Verma obtained 2nd rank in the Haryana Civil Services (HCS), also securing All India Rank 740 in UPSC 2022-23. After her success in HCS, she joined the service and worked in the Ambala Division as an Officer on Special Duty to the Commissioner. According to OdishaTV, at the age of 31 and as a mother to a three-year-old son, Rani secured 355th rank in the UPSC exam, improving her performance from her previous attempt. With this achievement, she is now set to become an IAS officer. Dr Pragati Verma comes from a family with a strong tradition of public service. Her father is a primary teacher, while her mother works in the health department. For added context, her father-in-law, R.C. Verma, is a retired IAS officer and served as Deputy Commissioner in four districts of Haryana, including Bhiwani, Palwal, Nuh, and Rewari.
