Vietnam Urges US Business Group to Help in Tariff Talks: Media
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on a US business group to continue supporting his country's attempt to secure a final tariff agreement with the Trump administration after the two countries basically reached a consensus on the deal's framework, local media reported. Chinh made the request during a Friday meeting in Hanoi with the U.S.-Asean Business Council, The Investor website reported, citing the Vietnamese government's news portal. The group represents companies such as Apple Inc., Boeing Co. and Inc., according to its website.

Vietnam Gains Edge With Early Trump Deal, US Group Head Says
Vietnam 's race to secure a trade deal with the Trump administration, even if the details aren't clear, gives the Southeast Asian country an advantage over regional rivals, according to Ted Osius, president of the US-Asean Business Council. 'The message from the Vietnamese government has been clear at every stage that we want to keep doing business with the United States,' he said in his first interview since returning to Vietnam to establish a presence for the council in Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi's approach has been, 'we will negotiate, not retaliate, we're going to put a lot on the table,' said Osius, who was US ambassador to Vietnam from 2014 to 2017.
