Treasuries Edge Higher as Tariff Concerns Add to Haven Demand
Treasury rose, tracking gains in European bonds, as the looming deadline on US tariffs fanned demand for haven assets. The 10-year yield slipped four basis points to 4.38%, its lowest since July 11. US and European Union official are continuing trade talks this week, and the lack of a breakthrough so far has raised the risk that 30% tariff might come into effect next month.

Thai Finance Chief Sees US Cutting 36% Tariff on Fresh Proposal
Thailand expects the US to reduce a threatened tariff on its exports from 36% to a level in line with regional neighbors after presenting a 'very substantial improvement' in a fresh round of talks, Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said. Thailand was able to meet all US demands with its third proposal, scrapping tariffs and non-tariff barriers on more American goods, Pichai told reporters in Bangkok on Friday. Thai and US officials discussed tariffs, transshipments, imports of US goods and Thai investments in the US over a conference call on Thursday, he said.

Explosions rock Damascus as Israel launches strikes on Syria
Israel said it took military action in support of Syria's Druze population which has been involved in deadly clashes with Syrian government forces in recent days. The move sent US officials scrambling to prevent a larger escalation between the two Middle East nations. Syria agreed Wednesday to withdraw its troops from the southern city of Suwayda under a new ceasefire deal with Druze militia in the area.

B.C. tsunami risk ‘being evaluated' after earthquake near Alaska

The potential tsunami risk to B.C. is being evaluated after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake rattled off the coast of Alaska Wednesday, according to officials. EmergencyInfoBC posted to social media just before 2 p.m. telling people to 'stand by for B.C.-specific info.' A tsunami warning is in effect for portions of Alaska. The quake was located roughly 80 kilometres south of Sandspit, measured at a depth of approximately 35 kilometres, according to U.S. officials. This is a developing story more to come.
