Chloe Kelly happy to see England subs clicking at Euro 2025

Kelly scored perhaps the most memorable goal from off the bench in Lionesses history when she netted the extra-time winner in England's 2-1 victory over Germany at the 2022 Women's European Championship final at Wembley, where they lifted their first major trophy. On Sunday, after replacements Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones both scored in the second half of England's 6-1 victory over Wales, they – and the rest of the bench – celebrated with a round of snaps, a gesture that even puzzled some of their own team-mates. 'I think it's great,' said Kelly. 'We have a little group of us, the finishers as you call it, the 'positive clicks' we call it on the bench. 'People were like, 'what are they doing?' but it was just a positive click, and we said if one of us comes on and scores, let's do that as our celebration. 'Yeah, it's great. We work really hard, on the training pitch, in the gym, probably this sometimes goes unnoticed, but it's about sticking together, being at our best when called upon, and training hard to get the best out of each other. 'Also making sure the girls that are starting the game are fully prepared, but making sure that we're fully prepared to go on the pitch and do a great job.' Midfielder Ella Toone was utterly baffled as she joined in the celebration. "A lot of positivity 🫰🫰🫰 in camp!" Those clicks explained, plus much more in a new episode of #ThatLionessesPodcast connected by @EE, with special guests @ellatoone99 and @LucyBronze! — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 15, 2025 'I didn't have a clue what it meant,' she admitted on the Lionesses official podcast. 'I said, 'Maya (Le Tissier), what are you doing?' and she said, 'It's just a bench thing.'' Manchester United captain Le Tissier, Kelly believes, instigated the group chat, 'to send each other pictures of the click celebration'. Kelly added: 'I was saying to Lotte (Wubben-Moy), throughout the tournaments that we've been playing in, whether that was the home Euros or Australia (World Cup 2023), the group of finishers have been incredible, supporting the team that are playing and being ready for your moment. 'The level of training is really high, grafting in the gym, so it's been really nice to see that's a consistent theme with England, the finishers being ready for their moment and taking it when it comes.' 🔴 Arsenal confirm the signing of Chloe Kelly on a permanent deal ✍️#UWCL || @chloekelly — UEFA Women's Champions League (@UWCL) July 2, 2025 It has been a remarkable few months for Kelly, who in January was so dissatisfied with her situation at Manchester City – including a lack of playing time – that she took to social media to publicly air her frustrations. She ultimately secured a loan with her former club Arsenal and, after shining in a standout second half of the season and lifting a Champions League trophy with the Gunners, was rewarded with a permanent deal earlier this month. Asked if she sees a path into Sarina Wiegman's starting XI this summer, Kelly replied: 'We'll see what happens. We don't pick the team, but we know we need to be at our best to give our all to the team.'
