Aldi raises minimum rate for staff in UK supermarket first

The budget-friendly grocery chain claims to be the first UK supermarket to introduce the new minimum rate. The change will see store assistants being paid a minimum of £13 an hour nationwide from September 1, up from a current £12.75. Within the M25, this rises to £14.33 from the current £14.05. Based on the length of service, Aldi store assistants could see their pay jump to £13.93 nationally, and to £14.64 within the M25. Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: 'Our people are the driving force behind our success across the UK. 'This latest investment in pay is a reflection of their hard work and the incredible contribution they make every single day. 'We're proud to remain the UK's highest-paying supermarket and will continue to support our colleagues in every way we can.' The news also follows Aldi being named the Employer of the Year at The Grocer Gold Awards. At the awards, Aldi was recognised for its competitive pay, investment in training and its focus on diversity and inclusion. The UK national minimum wage was raised to £12.21 an hour in April for workers over the age of 21. Other supermarkets have raised their bottom rates for thousands of shop workers in recent months to bring them above the national minimum. Cheaper than Dyson and Shark vacuum cleaner with 'strong suction' is cut by £90

Amazon has slashed the price of one of its top-selling vacuum cleaners, which shoppers have compared to pricier models from Dyson and Shark. The Ultenic U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, usually retailing at £239.99, is currently on offer for just £149.99. The cordless cleaner boasts a 600W brushless motor and advanced noise reduction technology, promising to operate 40% quieter than traditional models. Its floor brush features a four-layer design: stiff bristles for collecting carpet hair, V-shaped silicone flaps for deeper cleaning, soft PP bristles for capturing fine dust particles, and durable nylon for removing pet hair and preventing tangling. Ultenic's U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner comes with an extendable arm to reach tricky areas such as under low furniture. The floor brush is equipped with an integrated green light to reveal hidden dust. Over at Shark, customers can find discounts on bundle deals. For example, this Classic Upright Cleaning Bundle includes a corded upright vacuum cleaner, with two floor modes and a corded floor mop with three settings. Usually priced at £369.98, it is currently on sale for £212.99, reports the Mirror. Dyson also has some offers running at the moment, including a sale on its best-selling V11 Advanced vacuum. It has been reduced by £80, now available for £349.99, down from £429.99. Shoppers looking to purchase a robot vacuum can buy Shark's Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Cordless Robot Vacuum Cleane r and Mop at Argos for £400. Ultenic's U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner boasts an impressive customer satisfaction rating of 4.8 from Amazon shoppers, with more than 1,000 reviews. One customer described it as a 'lovely vacuum' with 'good suction', adding: "I have always had a Dyson or Shark. But this is a great alternative, and to be honest, I think it is better than my Shark one." Another shopper said they were 'very pleased with it'. They added: "To try it out, I started vacuuming the house (I had already done it the day before) and couldn't believe how much dust it picked up. The lights on it let you see where the dust is. "It is excellent on the stairs, using it hand-held and the pull-out brush. Having previously had a Dyson and a Shark, I would say this cleaner is better. Great that it stands upright too. Coped very well with picking up pet hair and did not get tangled in brush." However, a few customers reported issues with the suction power, with one buyer noting: "Very lightweight and easy to set up. Battery life is accurately described. However, it is not a particularly powerful suction vacuum cleaner. You need to run over the same area several times to get a suitable clean." Another customer commented: "Having previously had a Shark cordless vacuum, I was looking to replace like for like. However, having read all the positive reviews on the Ultenic U20, I decided to go for it. The Ultenic arrived the next day and was super easy to put together. It's lightweight with a decent-sized dust bin that's really easy to empty and clean."

I tried a £9.99 neck fan from Amazon and it's a must buy

Keeping cool while still doing what you want to do can be tricky when the heat feels sticky and gets unbearable. That's where a small gadget comes in – a neck cooler, which is a fan I've started to use to keep myself cool. You've probably seen them around but if you've not yet made the purchase, here's what I thought when I ordered one for £9.99 on Amazon. The neck fan cooled me down in minutes and is now a summer essential for me (Image: Newsquest) I ordered the Bladeless Neck Cooler from LYMYBETY for a bargain price and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much since it really didn't break the bank. However, I was pleasantly surprised when trying it out as it even cooled me down quickly after a very hot and sweaty netball match – what a result! The design is sturdy, but the fan fits around my neck and is quite comfortable to wear while it cools me down. You can choose from black and white, but I went for black as I didn't want the white one to get marked, as it could be more noticeable. The fan itself fits around your neck like a pair of headphones so you can go about your day wearing it. Within minutes, I noticed a difference in how I was feeling – the fan really did cool me down, and with it being around my neck, it seemed to target the right areas to make me feel better. The fan came with a good amount of charge already in it, but you get a charging lead so you can power it up for your next use. You have to make sure the fan part is facing upwards to feel any cool air, but apart from that, it's easy to pick up and go. It has three speed settings so you can have the air flowing faster or slower depending on how cool you want to feel with just a click of a button. The fan is a bargain and does the job (Image: Newsquest) Overall, I think this gadget is one I'll use time and time again, especially when I want to cool myself down quickly or keep myself at a cool temperature. I like that it's a gadget that I could pick up and know how to use straight away, it was so simple to get it working. One thing I need to get used to is the slight vibration on the higher speed setting. Recommended reading: I tried Aldi's new Smart Kettle and this feature was a gamechanger I tested the Aldi robot vacuum against Amazon's top-rated Ultenic - I'm in love Summer's hottest new facial SPF suncreams and products, ranked The neck fan can be a little noisy, especially as it progresses to the higher setting but I don't think it would cause too much of an issue when out and about. So far, my long hair hasn't been caught in the fan and since it's bladeless, I'm hoping this will never be a problem. Future uses that spring to mind are while on flights or as I'm stepping off the plane into humid air, during hot summer days when I'm sat at my desk working and after many a netball match. For £9.99, I'm impressed with its performance so far and hope it lasts well as I keep using it.
