Pune BBA student uses lighter in bid to steal petrol from bike, triggers fire; 200 rescued

Pune: A 20-year-old BBA student's attempt to steal petrol from a motorcycle and use a lighter to check the fuel he had spilled in the process triggered a fire at the entrance of a commercial building in Wadgaon Sheri, putting the lives of at least 200 people at risk and damaging six two-wheelers. The Pune fire brigade rescued the people from Shrushti complex around 1am on Monday. No one was injured, Chandannagar police said. There was a religious function on the third floor of the building. Around 200 people were asleep on the third floor when the fire broke out. Later on Monday, the Chandannagar police arrested the student, a resident of Sanjay Park in Vimannagar, for setting the two-wheelers on fire. "He decided to steal fuel from one of the parked two-wheelers. Though he managed to open the fuel pipe of one motorcycle and started stealing the petrol, he spilled some of it. As the area did not have lights, the student lit his lighter to see the petrol," Dhakane said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Show Off Your Talent: Enter the Ultimate Creator Contest! Following this, the flames engulfed all the two-wheelers parked near the motorcycle," he said. Four fire tenders reached the spot and doused the flames, but some plastic and wooden material kept in the windows of the building caught fire. Fire station officer Vijay Bhilare said: "Six two-wheelers parked at the entrance of the building were gutted. Thick, black smoke emanating from the fire spread across the building floors, blocking all entry and exit points. The people stuck in the building made frantic calls for help." Fire officers Nitin Temgire and Sanjay Jadhav, along with their team members, carried out the rescue operations. Bhilare told TOI: "The windows of the building started melting because of the intense heat of the fire. We broke the window glass panes and rescued the people using ropes and ladders. Some people were brought down using the staircase."

Drunk and shirtless son of MNS neta abuses woman

Mumbai: Two days after an investment analyst's office was vandalized by MNS activists, a video went viral on social media on Monday showing the son of an MNS functionary from Thane, shirtless and drunk, abusing a 39-year-old businesswoman-influencer in Andheri after having rammed his vehicle into hers and fled. The video showed him claiming his father was MNS leader. The Amboli police have registered an FIR against Rahil Javed Shaikh (26), for alleged drunk and rash driving and outraging the modesty of the woman. His father, Javed Shaikh, is an MNS functionary. The incident occurred at 1.30 am after Shaikh left a friend's residence in Lokhandwala Complex after partying on Sunday night. Driving an Innova SUV in an intoxicated state, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the businesswoman-influencer's Jeep Compass, after which he fled. When the influencer's car intercepted his vehicle, forcing it to stop, he was shirtless behind the wheel and was captured on video hurling abuses at her. Haridwar's Gurukul Kangri univ faces admin standoff with ‘2VCs, 2 registrars'

Haridwar: Gurukul Kangri (deemed-to-be) University in Haridwar is facing a unique administrative standoff with two individuals now claiming to hold the posts of vice-chancellor (VC) and registrar. The latest twist came on Monday when professor Prabhat Kumar from Ancient History department assumed charge as VC, stating that he was appointed by chancellor SK Arya. However, the existing VC prof Hemalatha K refused to acknowledge Arya's authority, claiming her own appointment was made as per UGC norms — based on seniority, which is required for an officiating VC. The registrar's office is also mired in confusion. Sunil Kumar, who was repatriated to his parent college in Dehradun by Hemalatha, was reinstated as registrar by chancellor Arya the same day he removed her. However, his office is currently occupied by Vipul Kumar, who was appointed registrar by Hemalatha immediately after Sunil's repatriation. As of now, Prabhat Kumar has taken control of the VC's formal office, while Hemalatha continues to operate from her English department room. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Show Off Your Talent: Enter the Ultimate Creator Contest! Tocsin Media & Marketing LLC Undo The dual claims and conflicting appointments have thrown the university into an administrative crisis, with no clarity yet on how or when the dispute will be resolved. Incidentally, Prabhat was till recently with the employees challenging Arya's appointment as chancellor. "He has now jumped on the bandwagon of the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha (APS), the body which has been running the university, for his own ends, betraying the cause of the employees," an employees' union leader said. Attempts were made to prevent Prabhat from entering the VC office, but the police purportedly came to his help. Agitated employees said that "APS men are capturing the university with police help." However, Prabhat said that he was duly appointed to the post. "APS has a positive attitude towards the university. We should not respond negatively to it," he added. Employees also claimed that forensic examination of the letters sent by Arya to the university had recently revealed that his signatures on the letters "were not genuine". "The university tried to file an FIR in the case, but police refused to take the complaint," a university staff member alleged. Arya is abroad these days. But letters bearing his signatures are continuously being written to the university, "whether it is to remove the VC, reinstate the registrar, or appoint a new VC," a university official told TOI.

Lando Norris performs Shoey after winning British Grand Prix Formula 1's official X handle shared a video from Lando Norris' Shoey celebration. As he stood on the podium with Oscar Piastri and Zak Brown, fans could be heard asking for the Shoey ritual to be fulfilled at Silverstone. As Norris prepared to drink the champagne in his shoe, Piastri wished him luck, saying, 'Cheers.' Norris then took a big sip from the shoe and reacted, 'That's disgusting.' Piastri and Brown also took a sip from the same shoe, after which Piastri flung the shoe into the crowd. However, many F1 fans couldn't bear the tradition. One fan reacted, 'Gross. I never understood this tradition.' Another said, 'This is too low! Very disgusting, and not something you should be proud of doing!' A third commented in disgust, 'This is tradition?' Tocsin Media & Marketing LLC Undo F1 fans slam Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri for ignoring Nico Hulkenberg Many also slammed Norris and Piastri for ignoring the third podium finisher, Nico Hulkenberg. The Kick Sauber driver secured his first-ever podium, but was seemingly overlooked by Norris and Piastri as they celebrated the moment with champagne on the podium. A video showing them not joining Hulkenberg as he sprayed champagne went viral. 'Nobody cares about these two snobs who couldn't even celebrate Nico,' read one such comment. Oscar Piastri was upset over 10-second penalty While Lando Norris was happy, Oscar Piastri was visibly upset after receiving a 10-second penalty for a Safety Car infringement during the race. Without the penalty, Piastri likely would have won. When asked about the race, Piastri said, 'I really can't be bothered [to explain], there is no point – I can't change it. I did what I did at the first restart, and apparently one needed a penalty and one didn't. Anyway, the team did a great job, had a great car and a good haul of points for the team. I don't really understand, I need to look back and see, but I really don't feel I did anything different or anything wrong.'
