SUPERMAN Cut a Brutal Krypto Scene That Upset Test Audiences — GeekTyrant

James Gunn knows how to make audiences fall in love with CGI animals, and then completely devastate them. Whether it's Groot, Rocket, Cosmo, or the heartbreaking quartet of Lylla, Floor, and Teefs, Gunn's love for adorable, heroic creatures is only matched by his willingness to put them through hell. But apparently, there is a line he won't cross, especially when it comes to a certain superpowered pup. Krypto the Superdog is finally making his big-screen, live-action debut in Superman , and he's already won over fans just from a few brief trailer appearances. Krypto's cute. He's loyal. He's got superpowers. Warner Bros. has made him a key part of the film's marketing campaign, and it's clear the studio knows audiences are going to fall hard for the dog. But during a recent interview with Jake Hamilton, Superman actress Sara Sampaio revealed that there was a Krypto moment that pushed things too far, and it didn't survive the test screenings. There was a point in the film that Ultraman punched Krypto and audiences hated the moment, so it got cut out of the film. 'They actually cut a worse scene, me and [Nicholas Hoult] were a bit pissed about it, but it's okay. They cut Ultraman punching Krypto. Apparently, it did really bad in the test screenings.' Watching Krypto getting decked by a god-tier villain is the kind of moment that could turn a fun superhero flick into instant trauma for some audiences. It's worth noting that Ultraman is no lightweight, he's expected to be a serious powerhouse in the film. A full-on punch from him could've jacked Krypto up. While that controversial moment is now on the cutting room floor, Krypto's future in the DCU is still bright. Not only will he survive Superman , but he's also set to star in a series of seasonal animated shorts after the movie hits theaters snd he'll return for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow . We'll see Krypto do his thing when Superman flies into theaters on July 11th.

James Gunn Reveals New Look at Ultraman in SUPERMAN and He Looks Like a Tuscan Raider — GeekTyrant

Superman director James Gunn has shared a new photo from the DC film giving fans a new look at Ultraman, and the first thing that I thought when I saw it was that it looked like a Tuscan Raider from Star Wars. We still don't know who or what is beneath the mask, but a lot of fans have pointed out the similarities to Doomsday's containment suit in the comics. While I don't think it's Doomsday, Gunn might be hinting at something by sharing this specific shot. I also just want to point out that we can see of Ultraman's neck in the image, and does appear human. Gunn was asked about Ultraman in a recent interview, and when pushed on whether the mysterious villain is part of Lex Luthor's attempt to create a "Superman kind of figure," he responded, "It's close. Yeah, I think that's close. Ultra Man is sort of Lex's thug and is pretty powerful." The filmmaker also confirmed that Hammer of Boravia, who some fans believe is Ultraman in disguise, has ties to LuthorCorp. "Yes, totally. Lex is connected to everything. There's nothing bad happening in Metropolis during this movie that doesn't have some connection to Lex Luthor." Superman is 'set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU." The cast of Superman includes David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, Skyler Gisondo as Clark's best pal, Jimmy Olsen; Wendell Pierce as The Daily Planet's Perry White; Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl; Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl; and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. It also stars Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific; Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampan as Eve Teschmacher; Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason, aka Metamorphosis; Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.; Neva Howell as Martha Kent; and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.

'Days of Our Lives' couple Paul and Andrew wed at the 10th anniversary of marriage equality ruling

In a moment that blends history, heartbreak, and hope, Days of Our Lives will air the long-anticipated wedding of beloved character couple Paul Narita and Andrew Donovan on June 23rd. The ceremony, set in the emotional aftermath of Paul's father John Black's death, marks another groundbreaking milestone for the iconic soap opera. Keep up with the latest in + news and politics. Portrayed by Christopher Sean and Colton Little, Paul and Andrew's union is more than a celebration of love; it's a poignant homage to family, both biological and chosen, and a vivid reminder of the power of representation in daytime television. The wedding also becomes a tribute to the late Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black and served as a paternal figure not only to Paul but also to Sean in real life. Sean has done voice work in Star Wars Resistance, Ultraman, and the DC animated universe. And Little has also appeared in General Hospital and is an advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility in entertainment and beyond. For Little, the moment is deeply personal. 'I'm an openly gay actor in real life,' he said. 'And getting to portray a gay character on a show like this, especially one where we're getting married, that's something I never imagined as a kid. I think now more than ever, it's amazing that we're still telling these stories. It's really important.' Raised in a town of just 300 people in Nebraska, Little recalls the stigma he experienced growing up. 'When Ellen DeGeneres came out, a family member said, 'That's disgusting,' and it broke my heart,' he shared. 'Before I even knew anything about my sexuality, I knew I was different. Later, as an actor, I had to decide, do I closet myself to get more roles? But I couldn't hide who I am. Being authentic is the most powerful thing I can do.' Sean, who originated the role of Paul Narita in 2014, reflected on his journey with the character, and the audiences he's touched along the way. 'Eleven years ago, I got my first Hollywood break on Days. I was nervous, I'll admit,' he said. 'But playing Paul helped me understand how unfair it is not to be able to just be yourself. After seeing the impact, messages from fans saying 'That's me,' I understood the importance of telling this story honestly.' Sean emphasized that authenticity in love and identity guided his portrayal. 'I didn't play a stereotype. I played love, how I give love, how I feel love. That mattered to people. I've had fans tell me, 'You saved my life because I didn't think I belonged.' That's why representation matters.' The June 23rd episode doesn't shy away from honoring both the personal and cultural journeys of the characters. In addition to a traditional Western wedding, the ceremony includes a Japanese tea ritual, honoring Paul's heritage — Sean's cultural heritage is both Japanese and American. 'It was such a beautiful fusion of East and West,' Sean noted. 'It felt spiritual, intimate, and deeply respectful.' The presence of Days alumni at the wedding, brought back in part due to Black's death, further enriches the emotional landscape. 'We were surrounded by history,' Sean said. 'It was bittersweet, because Drake Hogestyn wasn't there in person. But he was with us in spirit. He was my onscreen dad and my real-life mentor. I see his photo every day on my wall.' The atmosphere behind the scenes was just as powerful, the actors say. 'There's a blue-collar work ethic at Days,' Little said. 'Everyone shows up to do good work, support each other, and make something meaningful. When we filmed the wedding, there were so many real moments between characters, those are the kinds of scenes fans crave.' He added that the fan response has been overwhelming. 'Last year, I was in D.C. for a Pride-themed event. People told me, 'You're my lifeline. Seeing your love story made me feel safe.' Some were closeted and living in conservative places, and they had to sneak away just to meet us. Their courage, their stories moved me to tears.' Sean echoed the sentiment. 'I read almost every DM I get. If someone's in danger, I say: Stay safe. But as soon as you can, find your community. You deserve to live fully as yourself. As Drake used to say, Days gives people an escape for an hour a day. If we can give someone a sense of sanctuary, that's a blessing.' In a genre often dismissed for melodrama, Days of Our Lives has again found a way to make something beautiful and urgent out of love. For Sean and Little, Paul and Andrew's union is a story rooted in real experience, real emotion, and real hope. 'We're not here to preach,' Little added. 'We're here to show that love is love. And if one person watching sees our story and changes their heart, or finds courage, or just feels a little less alone, that's everything.' James Gunn Spills New Details on Ultraman, Metamorpho, and the Engineer in SUPERMAN — GeekTyrant

James Gunn's Superman is shaping up to be a character-packed, morally complex, and slightly chaotic reintroduction to the Man of Steel's world. While Lex Luthor remains the film's central antagonist, Gunn recently shared new details on how characters like Ultraman, Metamorpho, the Engineer, and even Eve Teschmacher fit into the mix. Let's start with Ultraman. Fans have been scratching their heads over this one. Some have speculated he's a clone of Superman, others guessed a reimagined Parasite or even a proto-Bizarro. When Entertainment Weekly asked if Ultraman is Lex's own twisted version of Superman, Gunn said: 'I think that's close. Ultraman is sort of Lex's thug, and is pretty powerful.' He expanded on the moral gray areas the movie explores: 'There are some characters that are really almost saintly, like Superman. There are some characters who are almost pretty terrible, like Lex Luthor. But I don't think Lex is all bad, and I don't think Superman is all good. 'All those people in between, the Guy Gardners and the Jimmy Olsens of the world, are even more complex in their moralities and what they think is okay.' It sounds like this complexity will extend to Metamorpho, played by Anthony Carrigan. In the film, Rex Mason can transmute his body into any natural element, including Kryptonite. That's a power Lex Luthor clearly wants to exploit, even if it means bending Metamorpho's will. Carrigan described the struggle his character faces: 'You're in a situation where it's having to hurt someone, having to be an agent of the bad guy. And at the same time, there's this struggle to want to be good. 'What the film does brilliantly is it puts you in this situation of, 'Oh! He has no choice.' He has to be doing this, and you see how painful it is.' Baby Joey might have something to do with that, a mysterious figure yet to be revealed, may be at the heart of how Lex manipulates Metamorpho. As Gunn bluntly put it: 'Lex is connected to everything. There's nothing bad happening in Metropolis during this movie that doesn't have some connection to Lex Luthor.' Then there's Angela Spica, a.k.a. The Engineer, played by María Gabriela de Faría. A character known for her nanotech-enhanced body, Angela has a strangely intimate dynamic with Lex. While it's not overtly romantic in the movie, de Faría shared her thoughts on what's simmering under the surface: 'I imagined that Lex and Angie had this work relationship where they respect each other so much. Angela highly believes in Lex's idea of making the world a better place. She's practically given her life to Lex for this greater good. 'But at the same time, I feel like there's an element of an underlying relationship going on between the two of them. It's not in the movie… I feel like these guys f***!' Enter Eve Teschmacher, Lex's actual girlfriend, played by Sara Sampaio. But don't expect a supervillain as Teschmacher is more of a selfie-snapping influencer than a mastermind. Sampaio said: 'She's just very for herself and her content. She's sometimes out of notion with what's happening or what's appropriate, but she does have a heart. At the end of the day, everything is just so exciting for her. She's just in a whole different world.' Gunn seems to be building a Superman world where even the side characters have internal conflict, rich dynamics, and layered motivations. Metamorpho may eventually lean toward heroism. The Engineer's fate remains uncertain, especially with The Authority movie now off the immediate DC slate. As for Ultraman… Whether he sticks around will likely depend on who's under that mask. Superman flies into theaters July 11, 2025.
