The Diddy Trial In Pictures

Diddy has been found 'Not Guilty' on three out of five charges in the high-profile sex trafficking case that has captivated the nation for the last seven weeks. A jury acquitted Diddy of racketeering and conspiracy, sex trafficking for Cassie Ventura and Jane Doe. He was found guilty of the Mann Act, which prohibits the transportation of women across state lines for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery. The scene outside the courthouse is a combination of the Combs' family and friends, journalists, spectators, supporters, and protestors who have gathered around the U.S. federal court where the verdict just came down. Diddy's legal team has put in a request for the disgraced mogul to be released on bail to spend time at home while he awaits sentencing. Social media erupted with the reactions. While some have called it a sad day for survivors of sexual and domestic violence, others expressed that the prosecution didn't prove their case. Diddy Trial Cassie Ventura's legal team released a statement, calling her courageous. Her testimony led to Diddy being held accountable for at least one charge. 'This entire criminal process started when our client Cassie Ventura had the courage to file her civil complaint in November 2023,' Douglas H. Wigdor said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. 'Although the jury did not find Combs guilty of sex trafficking Cassie beyond a reasonable doubt, she paved the way for a jury to find him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution.' Armon Wiggins was outside the courthouse to capture reactions from fellow journalists and non-traditional media, who emerged as prime sources in the entertainment trial. Reactions to the verdict are polarized, but the vast majority of commentary is centered around the misunderstanding of the RICO charge and Jane Doe's testimony. Foods that can boost your skin's barrier to protect you from sun

Several foods could safeguard your skin as the sun beats down this summer.A lot of people are expecting to sunbathe and absorb as much vitamin D as possible in the coming weeks. However, prolonged sun exposure carries numerous risks, including skin damage and an elevated risk of skin cancer. Despite this, there are several methods to protect your skin and reduce the risk of severe consequences. For instance, using sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or above can significantly shield your skin from the sun's harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays. Your diet could also have a significant impact on how your skin responds to the sun. Certain foods contain essential nutrients that strengthen the skin's defence against UV rays and prevent premature ageing due to excessive sun exposure. Several everyday nutrients are key to maintaining healthy skin, particularly when regularly exposed to UV rays. Vitamin A (retinol), for example, is crucial for keeping the skin and certain body parts, such as the nose, healthy. Likewise, Vitamins B, C, and E contribute to skin health and protect skin cells from damage. Antioxidants also play a vital role in mitigating the harmful effects of free radicals, which can further harm skin cells. Fortunately, there's a broad range of nutritious foods that can provide a good amount of all these nutrients to ensure your skin remains well-protected and healthy under the sun. Oranges and kiwis are an incredibly rich source of Vitamin C, an ascorbic acid that plays several roles in keeping the body healthy. Most importantly, it is vital in not only helping to protect cells but also maintaining healthy skin while aiding in healing wounds. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant, which further allows it to protect skin cells from damage. One study published in the Acta Dermato-Venereologica journal highlighted that vitamin C could provide significant additional skin protection against damage from UV rays, especially when combined with sunscreen and Vitamin E. According to NHS guidelines, adults aged between 19 and 64 are advised to get at least 40mg of vitamin C a day. Furthermore, the body cannot store vitamin C in the body, which means that it must be consumed every day in order to regularly reap its health benefits. A wide variety of nuts could help contribute to skin health. This is due to the common presence of omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E antioxidants found in them. Omega-3 fatty acids have the ability to aid in maintaining skin health and reducing inflammation, which can be particularly beneficial if the skin has been damaged by excessive sun exposure. Furthermore, Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can safeguard the skin from free radicals while also helping it retain its elasticity, thereby minimising potential damage. Some nuts that are rich in omega-3 or Vitamin E include: Tomatoes and tomato-based products are packed with compounds that can shield the skin from sun damage. This is primarily due to the presence of carotenoids, such as beta-carotene (Vitamin A), which can alleviate inflammation and enhance the appearance of sun-damaged skin. Tomatoes are also abundant in lycopene, a red-coloured carotenoid, which some research suggests could offer protection from UV rays. Lycopene is not only found in whole tomatoes but also in tomato-based products like tomato paste.

Doubts over effectiveness of popular sunscreen brands

Isabella Higgins: Now, can we trust our sunscreen to protect us? Well, the latest testing by Consumer Group Choice has found many fail to meet their SPF claims. Twenty sunscreens were tested and only four met their advertised ratings. But the brands have rejected the findings. Rachel Carbonell reports. Rachel Carbonell: It's considered essential to reducing Australians' high risk of skin cancer. But testing by Australia's peak consumer group has found many sunscreens don't meet their SPF label claims. Choice tested 20 sunscreens and CEO Ashley De Silva says they found 16 with a lower sun protection factor than advertised on their labels. Isabella Higgins: We had things in their 20s, 30s and 40s when we were looking for 50 or more. Rachel Carbonell: Choice tested the sunscreens in an accredited independent lab and many came back in the 20s, including Bondi Sands, Banana Boat and two Cancer Council products, which should have returned results of SPF 50 or above. The product that received the lowest SPF results was Ultraviolet Lean Screen Mattifying Zinc Sunscreen. Choice director of testing Matthew Steen says the results were double checked in an overseas lab. Just to see whether there was any problem and it came back with SPF 5, so almost identical. So we're sure that the results are legit. Ultraviolet says Choice has got it wrong and says it has since had the product retested and it returned a result of more than SPF 60. Some other brands also said they would pursue additional testing, including the Cancer Council. In a statement to the ABC, the Cancer Council said it was doing so out of an abundance of caution and it was critical that Australians have confidence in the sun protection factor of their sunscreen. The head of dermatology at the Melanoma Institute of Australia, Dr Linda Martin says while testing needed to improve to make sure labelling is accurate, adequate application of sunscreen was just as important. Linda Martin: Most sunburns when they occur are occurring because people are not using enough sunscreen or because they're not using sunscreen at all. Rachel Carbonell: Dr Martin says people can overestimate the difference between higher and lower sun protection factors. Linda Martin: An SPF 30 will let through 3% of the sun's rays, whereas an SPF 50 will let through 2% of the sun's rays. Rachel Carbonell: Choice now wants the Therapeutic Goods Administration, which regulates sunscreen, to test the 16 products. In a statement, the TGA said there was variability in SPF testing results across laboratories, largely because of the reliance on human subject testing. The TGA said it can check that companies were complying with safety regulations and direct them to investigate and retest if there were any potential issues with the product. But it said it is investigating the Choice findings and will take regulatory action as required. Choice said its results have also been submitted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission so the watchdog could determine whether any of the brands made misleading claims about their sunscreens. Isabella Higgins: Rachel Carbonell with that report.

Should You Buy Nu Holdings While It's Below $12?

Despite having a market cap of more than $50 billion, Nu Holdings (NYSE: NU) might not be a familiar business to many investors in the U.S. That's because its operations are in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. The company's shares have been volatile since their initial public offering in December 2021. However, they have soared 180% in the past 24 months. This is true even though there's been a 26% drop since November. Nu trades for less than $12 a share. Does this make the fintech stock a smart buying opportunity today? Like other banks, Nu offers customers a wide range of financial services, like checking and savings accounts, credit cards, personal loans, insurance, and investments. And there's also a service called Ultraviolet that caters to high-income customers that offers cash back on purchases and certain travel benefits. But unlike most other banks, Nu operates fully digitally -- it doesn't have any physical bank branches. This allows management to emphasize technology as a key strategic pillar, with a focus on building a great user experience. The result has been tremendous growth, which continues today. Nu has added customers to its platform at a remarkable pace. It ended last year with 114 million customers, up 470% from five years ago. Economic development in Latin America helps, with higher smartphone and internet penetration providing a favorable backdrop for digital banking services to rise in popularity. Unsurprisingly, revenue growth is also through the roof. Between 2019 and 2024, the top line increased by almost 19-fold. Wall Street believes revenue will grow by 129% during the next three years. This outlook is believable. More than half of all adults in Brazil -- its home market -- are Nu customers. In Mexico and Colombia, the business has a lower penetration rate because it's been operating there for a shorter period of time. And there's potential in new countries. Chief Executive Officer David Vélez said Nu could enter a new market within the next couple of years. With businesses growing as quickly as Nu is, you typically see large net losses. The expectation is to generate positive net income sometime in the distant future at a higher sales base. Nu stands out from the crowd. In 2024, it posted a stellar 17.1% net profit margin. That represents a stark improvement from the 12.8% margin reported the year before. Average analyst estimates forecast earnings per share rising 172% between 2024 and 2027, so the bottom line could continue its positive trajectory. One key reason Nu is so lucrative is due to strong unit economics. In other words, the company is making money from each customer that it serves. Average revenue per active customer was $10.70 in Q4, up 23% year over year in constant currency. On the other hand, the average cost to serve per active customer was only $0.80. Nu is seeing cross-selling opportunities that can boost the revenue it makes from every customer. And as it scales up and focuses on operational efficiencies, the cost to serve each customer has a chance to improve. Since hitting a peak in November last year, Nu shares are down 26%.
