Martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Umar (RA): ASWJ organises major rally
KARACHI: Marking the martyrdom anniversary of the second Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA), Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) organized a major rally titled 'Madah-e-Sahaba (RA) Demand March' from Lasbela Chowk in Karachi, with participants from various walks of life. Leaders of the organization, including ASWJ Pakistan President Allama Aurangzeb Farooqi, Allama Rab Nawaz Hanafi, Syed Muhiuddin Shah, Maulana Abdul Rafi Shah Bukhari, Maulana Umar Muawiya, and others addressed the crowd, calling for official recognition of the day at the state level and a nationwide public holiday in honor of Hazrat Umar (RA). Speaking at the event, Allama Aurangzeb Farooqi said that ASWJ has always promoted unity and peace and that observing the 'Ashra Farooq o Hussain' (Ten Days of Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Hussain) is a symbol of harmony and brotherhood. He expressed disappointment that banners related to these observances were reportedly removed in some areas, alleging administrative involvement. Farooqi urged the government to ensure such actions are not repeated, warning that such moves could lead to unrest. He further said Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) was a close companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and played a pivotal role in the early Islamic state's strength and expansion. 'After the Prophet, had there been a prophet, it would have been Umar,' he quoted from a well-known Hadith. Other speakers emphasized that the legacy of Hazrat Umar (RA), particularly his just and visionary governance, should be promoted widely. ASWJ leaders maintained that for the past 40 years, the group has observed Youm-e-Umar (RA) annually, aiming to enlighten people about his contributions to Islam and justice. The rally ended with a call for the federal government to declare the martyrdom day of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) a national holiday and to officially commemorate the occasion, so that future generations can learn from the Caliph's exemplary character and leadership. Three bomb threats in Gujarat, all ‘hoax'; probe begins
Bomb threats were received by the Gujarat High Court, the Rajkot district court as well as a school in Vadodara — all on Tuesday — keeping officers on their toes. All three locations were searched and sanitised by teams comprising policemen and other officials, and the threats turned out to be hoaxes. The state's cyber crime units, however, have now begun a probe into the emails. The Principal of an English-medium school inside the complex of Gujarat Refinery received an email, with the sender claiming that a bomb had been placed on the premises that would 'go off any time'. Teams comprising policemen, officials from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Dog Squad, Special Operations Group and Crime Branch arrived at the spot soon after. However, even after a search spanning several hours, nothing suspicious was found. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Julie Kothiya, said: 'The school received an email citing a bomb threat. It was sent by an ID of one Umar Farooq. The local police and special units vacated the premises and 375 children and 35 staff members were evacuated. The cyber crime team is investigating the matter to trace the sender.' A couple of hours after the Vadodara school incident, another similar email was received by the Gujarat High Court — the second such email in less than a month — from one Rene Joshilda who is in the custody of the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime unit since Monday. The email sent to the Registrar General's office claimed that 'three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been placed in the court building and would explode during the day', officials of Sola Police station said. However, unlike on June 9 when the previous threat was received by the court, the HC continued proceedings instead of vacating its premises, while police officers conducted a thorough search. Nothing suspicious was found in this case either. In Rajkot, the local police carried out a search at the District and Sessions Court premises, but the threat was termed as hoax when, in this case as well, officials did not spot any suspicious object.

Srinagar's Jamia Masjid locked on Eid, Mirwaiz detained
SRINAGAR: Srinagar's historic Jamia Masjid was locked and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest Saturday on Eid-ul-Adha, denying devotees the opportunity to offer prayers and provoking a backlash from many, including CM Omar Abdullah. Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which looks after the mosque management, said the gates were closed early Saturday morning and police deployed outside. Mirwaiz and Hurriyat Conference chairman Umar Farooq's family has traditionally led prayers at the mosque for generations. 'It is deeply regrettable that once again, people were not allowed to offer Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid,' Omar said. He expressed helplessness, saying law and order in J&K Union territory fell under the purview of lieutenant governor (LG) Manoj Sinha's administration. 'I have no idea on what grounds such decisions are made,' the CM said. Omar urged the authorities to trust J&K's residents, saying 'these are the same people who, after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, came forward and unequivocally condemned it'. The CM called on 'the govt' to reconsider such actions in the future, alluding probably to the administration of the Centre-appointed LG. I, too, have been detained at my home. In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world! What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,' the Mirwaiz posted on X. J&K police and home department had not issued any statement on locking of the mosque and Mirwaiz's detention. PDP president and former CM Mehbooba Mufti joined the condemnation, accusing the Omar-led govt of being 'mere spectators'. 'J&K is the only Muslim-majority region in the country, and yet it is here that a major mosque is shut down on Eid, denying people their right to offer prayers. If govt claims everything is normal in J&K, why is the Mirwaiz not allowed to offer prayers,' Mehbooba said. Asked about the restrictions, BJP functionary and J&K Waqf Board chairperson Darkshan Andrabi declined comment. 'Jamia Masjid doesn't come under Waqf Board,' she said.

Pre-monsoon drain desilting drive launched
Machinery is being used to speed up the process of desilting of canals in order to provide farmers timely supply of water for their crops. Photo: Express As part of pre-monsoon preparations, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has launched a major desilting operation of the 22-kilometer-long Nullah Leh and 13 major stormwater drains across Rawalpindi. Of total estimated cost of the project is Rs140 million, Rs80m will be spent on the complete desilting and realignment of Nullah Leh, while Rs60m is allocated for the storm drains. The Punjab government has approved the budget for this project. The desilting of Nullah Leh and the storm drains is scheduled for completion by June 30. The flood season for Nullah Leh is expected to run from July to September 15. Following Eidul Azha, a full-scale flood rescue drill will be conducted in low-lying areas like Javed Colony and Nadeem Colony. This exercise will include teams from the 111 Brigade, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and local police to simulate the evacuation of residents in case of flooding. The 111 Brigade will also be placed on red alert once the flood season begins. From June 15, a centralised Flood Control Room will be activated under the supervision of the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner. This control room, located at the Civil Defence Headquarters, will have representatives from all 12 relevant departments. The Cantonment Boards of Rawalpindi and Chaklala will be responsible for cleaning the 11-kilometer stretch of Nullah Leh and associated storm drains that fall within their jurisdiction. A special survey by the Civil Defence Department has identified 20 high-risk locations along Nullah Leh and the storm drains. These include Javed Colony, Nadeem Colony, Arya Mohalla, Chah Sultan, New Katarian, Amar Pura Drain, Dhok Dalal Lai Bridge, Dhok Najoo, Mohalla Raja Sultan Drain, Hazara Colony, Ratta Amral, Mohanpura, Gawalmandi, Dhok Chiragh Din, Tench Bhatta Chowk, Dhok Khabba, Arya Mohalla (again), and Sadiqabad. The department has recommended enhanced monitoring and deeper desiltingby an additional two to three feetat these vulnerable points. According to the WASA spokesperson and Director of Administration, Umar Farooq, the cleanup is being treated as a top priority. Both heavy and light machinery is being used, and this year, even hard-to-reach areas in narrow, congested streets will be cleared. The desilting will improve water flow in both Nullah Leh and the storm drains. Moreover, the operation will continue beyond the initial cleanup until the end of the flood season.

Pakistan Senator Questions Islamabad On Operation Sindoor: 'How Did India Manage To...'
Last Updated: Umar Farooq expressed concern over security breaches, stating, "How did India manage to penetrate so deeply inside and kill us?" Pakistan senator Umar Farooq publicly criticized the country's security and intelligence agencies following India's Operation Sindoor. His remarks challenged established narratives by Islamabad and questioned the efficacy of Pakistan's defense. He referenced Operation Sindoor- launched in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam- in which India conducted a series of precision strikes against terror infrastructure and even some military targets deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Umar Farooq expressed concern over security breaches, stating, 'How did India manage to penetrate so deeply inside and kill us? India even bombed the Chaklala airbase… Our army's GHQ was nearby. No one is asking how India got so deep inside." He then extended an open challenge, adding, 'If anyone wants to get angry, they should come and discuss these issues directly." While Pakistan has officially downplayed the extent and impact of India's operations, Umar Farooq's statements suggest a recognition of significant incursions. He also questioned Pakistan's consistent accusations against India for attacks in Balochistan. Turning the scrutiny towards Islamabad, Umar Farooq asked, 'What are our agencies and forces doing? Why aren't we questioning our own forces? No bombs or people come from India. The attackers are our own people there." He also highlighted that people in Balochistan are being arrested, hinting at internal dissent and crackdowns. Watch India Pakistan Breaking News on CNN-News18.
