#SHOWBIZ: Ungu celebrates 29 years with special KL 'Symphony Ungu' concert
KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Indonesian rock band Ungu recently celebrated a significant milestone in their musical journey, marking their 29th anniversary with a heartfelt and elegant concert titled "29th Anniversary – Symphony Ungu". The event was held at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). With over 2,000 fans filling the prestigious venue, Ungu once again proved the enduring relevance of their music, which continues to resonate deeply even after nearly three decades in the industry. The two-hour concert was particularly special due to its unique presentation, as iconic Ungu hits were given a refreshing twist through orchestral arrangements, directed by J.P. Denny. This bold musical approach breathed new life into their beloved songs, offering an elevated experience for both long-time listeners and new fans. The evening kicked off with a captivating performance by guest singer Gretchene Quirina, who opened the show with heartfelt renditions of 'Mangu', 'Sampai Menutup Mata', and 'Aku Bodoh'. Malaysian singer Ayda Jebat also made a memorable appearance, joining Ungu on stage for a duet of the song 'Bismillah Cinta', much to the crowd's delight. Throughout the night, Ungu performed over 16 songs, including fan favourites such as 'Andai Ku Tahu', 'Berjanjilah', 'Kekasih Gelapku', 'Demi Waktu', 'Hampa Hatiku', and 'Seperti Mati Lampu'. One of the most touching moments came when the band dedicated 'Bila Tiba' to their late friend and former keyboardist, Gatot Kies Afierianto, who passed away in June. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere was the warm and humorous interaction between lead vocalist Pasha and the audience. His down-to-earth jokes and heartfelt messages strengthened the connection between the band and their loyal Malaysian fans, making the night not only musically unforgettable but emotionally meaningful as well.
