Kroger store closures: Find out which ones are closing in Georgia
Contrary to earlier reports suggesting no confirmed store closures were available, there have been several confirmations identifying specific locations slated for shutdown, including several in Georgia. Kroger, one of the nation's largest grocery chains, announced plans to close 60 stores over the next 18 months, raising concerns among shoppers about the future of their neighborhood locations. The announcement was made Friday, June 20, as part of Kroger's first-quarter 2025 earnings report. Based in Cincinnati, the company operates 1,239 stores across 16 states, with the highest concentrations in Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio. The closures represent about 5% of Kroger's total store count. While Kroger has not yet published an official list, some closures have been confirmed by the United Food & Commercial Workers union and reported by local media outlets, including Fox 5 Atlanta and Atlanta News. Below is a running list of Georgia locations confirmed to be closing, according to USA TODAY: 2452 Morosgo Way, Atlanta: Closing July 19 11877 Douglas Rd., Alpharetta: Closing August 16 3479 Memorial Dr., Decatur: Closing September 13 3855 Buford Hwy., Brookhaven: Closing October 18 For more information, visit Vanessa Countryman is the Trending Topics Reporter for the the Deep South Connect Team Georgia. Kroger set to close 60 stores across the country: Here's where, so far
More reports of Kroger-owned locations shuttering across the country are appearing as employees and customers learning that their closest store is set to close. The announcements come as Kroger said it would be closing 60 locations in the U.S. over the next 18 months, the company said on June 20. Erin Rolfes, a spokesperson for Kroger, told USA TODAY the company would not be releasing a full list of closures, but several closing locations have been identified through media reports in several states, including in Illinois, Kentucky, Texas and more. Interim CEO Ron Sargent said during a conference call on Friday, June 20, that the unprofitable stores being closed were spread around the U.S. Kroger operated 2,731 stores at the beginning of its fiscal year, meaning the closures represent about 2% of all of its locations. The chain also reaffirmed its plan to spend between $3.6 billion and $3.8 billion this year on capital expenditures, such as money for building new stores and expanding and renovating existing ones. Kroger also said it would offer roles in other stores to all associates currently employed at closing locations. Kroger has not released a full list of stores set to close, but news of some specific closures has emerged. Some closures have been disclosed by chapters of the United Food & Commercial Workers, a labor union representing approximately 1.3 million retail, meatpacking and food processing workers in the U.S. and Canada. Others have been reported by local media or confirmed by USA TODAY.
