Prince William's 'awful' gift to Kate that didn't go down to well

Prince William once recalled the very unusual present he bought for his now wife in the early days of their relationship, admitting that the bizarre gift 'didn't go down well' It's no doubt that buying gifts for a princess would be hard work, knowing she has a wardrobe and jewellery box filled with the works of the world 's best designers. The same can be said for Prince William, who has previously admitted that buying gifts for his wife hasn't always been an easy task. William has looked back on the 'awful' gift he gave to his now wife Princess Kate in the early days of their relationship, as he even admitted he didn't know why he bought it for his then girlfriend, who has 'never let him forget' the very odd choice in gift. ‌ ‌ The Prince of Wales revealed the bizarre present during an appearance on former England striker Peter Crouch's podcast on BBC Radio Five Live in 2020, during which Crouch admitted that he had once bought his wife, model Abbey Clancy, a raincoat for her birthday three years in a row. After his frank confession, William then admitted: "I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once for Christmas - she's never let me forget that. I wrapped them. They were really nice. I was trying to convince myself about it. I was like, 'But these are really amazing, look how far you can see!' She was looking at me, going, 'They're binoculars. What's going on?'' 'That was early on in the courtship that was - I think that sealed the deal. It didn't go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time." It's a well-known fact that the royal family tend not to spoil each other with lavish gifts to celebrate birthdays and Christmases, instead opting for light-hearted and silly presents. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry revealed he once received a fish ballpoint pen from Princess Margaret, while also admitting he once gifted his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth a bath mat that read 'Ain't life a b*tch'. ‌ Kate has also previously shared that she once gifted Harry a grow-your-own-girlfriend kit, after his many years in the spotlight as an eligible bachelor before he met Meghan. The royals follow unique Christmas traditions rooted in their German heritage. Gifts are exchanged on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day, with family members placing their presents in specific piles in the afternoon before gathering at 6pm to begin the unwrapping. ‌ The Prince and Princess of Wales celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary on April 29, and are believed to have first become a couple sometime in early 2002. The pair first met during the autumn of 2001 at the University of St Andrew's in Scotland. With Prince William celebrating his 43rd birthday today, let's hope that Princess Kate has something a bit more special than binoculars to surprise him with.

Kate debuts new hair as she celebrates wedding anniversary with Prince William in Scotland

IN LONDON The Princess of Wales has debuted a new hairstyle as she marked her 14th wedding anniversary with a trip to Scotland with Prince William. Kate has been known for her trademark long, dark hair for years, but has now opted for a lighter, honey-brown hue as the northern hemisphere summer approaches. The couple, who tied the knot in 2011 at Westminster Abbey, are currently on a two-day visit to the Isle of Mull, off the country's west coast. The whistlestop tour will see them meet with local craftspeople, farmers and residents and help highlight the importance of protecting and championing the natural environment. For their overnight stay, William and Kate are staying in a self-catering cottage, where it's expected they'll celebrate their special occasion privately. The pair actually first met in Scotland, while they were classmates at the University of St Andrew's in Fife back in 2001. They soon began dating, and wed on April 29, 2011, in a lavish royal event watched by an estimated billion people around the world. Meanwhile, their Scottish getaway this week marks Kate's first overnight tour since her cancer diagnosis early last year. She stepped back from royal duties after going public with her difficult news, undergoing chemotherapy for several months before announcing she had completed treatment in September. Earlier this year, Kate revealed she is now in remission, and is continuing her gradual return to public life.

William and Kate reunited after brief split due to comment from I'm A Celeb star

William and Kate are currently celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary on the Scottish Isle of Mull. But the pair briefly split four years prior to their marriage, and a former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star played a part in the couple's getting back together before their marriage in 2011. Kate's life was like a fairytale when she met her prince husband while studying at the University of St Andrew's in 2001. The couple instantly became a hit across the globe, with Kate quickly becoming the people's princess. But going out with the future King came with severe pressures that affected their relationship. In 2007, William, now 42, and Kate, now 43, went their separate ways, and hit some of the most exclusive clubs in London while nursing their broken hearts. William was apparently seen stood on a table yelling: "I'm free!" at his favourite nightclub, Mahiki, which closed down in 2021, reported The Mirror. Kate reportedly kept herself busy after the break-up and headed away for a few days with her mum, Carole, while also hitting the town with her sister Pippa. The pair instantly found themselves invited to almost every top party and the most exclusive night clubs. Now, The Sun reports during one outing at a book launch, Kate grinned when she was asked if she'd be keen to appear on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! following rumours of her being offered £1million to appear on the show. But it appears the Princess of Wales had another connection to the beloved ITV programme. The Sun claims King Charles ' late god-daughter, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson was consoling Kate in the corner of a room and offered her advice on how to win her Prince back. "Do you want him back?" asked Tara, who appeared on the ITV show in 2022. Kate is believed to have responded, telling the star she loved William. Tara, who died in 2017 from a perforated ulcer reportedly responded: "Keep your chin up. Say nothing, do nothing and you'll be fine and he'll come back." It appears Kate's decision to refrain from speaking publicly worked as she and William got back together later that year. Tara was also in attendance when the couple tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. Speaking during their engagement interview in 2010, William said of their split: "We were both very young. It was at university, and we were both sort of finding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up. "It was just sort of a bit of space and a bit of things like that, and it worked out for the better." Kate added to ITV's Tom Bradby: "I think I... at the time wasn't very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person. "You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn't realised, or I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger and I really valued that time for me as well although I didn't think it at the time. Looking back on it." Today though, the couple appear to be happier than ever and are celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary on Mull. Two years after their wedding the couple had their first child, Prince George, then Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.
