Katie Taylor's religion and how she uses it as a weapon in the ring
Katie Taylor draws immense strength from her faith and has confessed that boxing would be impossible for her without it.
The undisputed world super-lightweight champion is a devout born-again Christian, having been a regular at St. Mark's Pentecostal Church on Pearse Street in Dublin before she moved to Connecticut.
Before her trilogy fight with Amanda Serrano on Friday, Taylor's mother Bridget will braid her hair and they will recite Psalm 18 together.
"I would not be able to step into the ring without God in my life,'' she said previously."
"Anything you need for guidance in your life is in the Bible. Mam is my spiritual rock and she is as much a part of my boxing team as anyone else.
"Psalm 18 has become a mantra for me before fights. It's a reminder that it is God that trains my mind for battle."
Andy Lee previously told the Untouchable: How Katie Taylor Changed The World podcast how the2012Olympic gold medallist's religion is a source of strength for her and an important part of her pre-fight routine
"I think because she is such a humble person, her having that faith, it makes it easy for her to reconcile with her achievements," he remarked.
"Being so humble, I think she has to give power to something else beyond herself. She can't take responsibility for all she has achieved so she gives it up to God because she believes what she is doing she wouldn't have achieved without her faith.
"I can understand that. It is a hard thing to explain and I hope I am making my point. For someone so humble to achieve all this greatness, I think she puts it in the hands of God.
"I think that is where she gets her strength from."
