New tool helps visitors find parking in West Midtown
It's been a rough year for Atlanta's West Midtown. But the group working to improve the district's connectivity hopes a new tool will help visitors find parking more easily — and keep supporting local businesses.
Why it matters: The cost and availability of parking is among several reasons Atlanta residents gave for why multiple restaurants in the district have closed since 2024.
The latest: The Upper Westside Community Improvement District has debuted a new tool that shows where people can find parking.
The interactive map is available on the Upper Westside CID website.
Zoom in: The map lists about 30 options, mostly around West Marietta Street, The Works on Chattahoochee Avenue and The Interlock, Star Metals and Westside Provisions District on Howell Mill Road.
Users can check parking rates for each deck and the addresses of each location. The tool also notes which decks have bike parking and EV charging stations.
What they're saying: Matt Bronfman, the CEO of Jamestown, which is part-owner of Westside Provisions, said in a press release the map "takes the guesswork out of parking costs," thus making it easier to enjoy the West Midtown district.
"This is an area built on creativity and innovation," he said. "While there is abundant parking, we felt it would be helpful to back Upper Westside CID's initiative to give patrons an easy-to-follow guide."
Context: The new tool's release comes on the heels of more than a dozen restaurant closings in the district within the last 12 months.
The most recent casualty was Italian restaurant Bastone, which closed in May.
The big picture: The closures have sparked debates around what's causing restaurants to shutter, including high costs to park, rising rents and traffic headaches.
