Ramon Urias to Astros, Andrew Kittredge to Cubs as Orioles sell

(Photo credit: Mitch Stringer-Imagn Images) The Houston Astros got their third baseman, acquiring Ramon Urias and cash considerations from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday for minor-league pitching prospect Twine Palmer. Also Thursday, the Orioles sent right-hander Andrew Kittredge to the Chicago Cubs for minor league shortstop Wilfri De La Cruz. Baltimore has been quite active this month, shipping right-hander Bryan Baker to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 10, left-hander Gregory Soto to the New York Mets last Friday and righty Seranthony Dominguez to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Urias, 31, batting.248 with eight homers and 34 RBIs in 77 games on the season, is poised to take over as the starting third baseman for the Astros. Isaac Parades could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Urias is a career .259 hitter with 47 homers and 205 RBIs in 506 games with the Orioles. He also won a Gold Glove as a third baseman in 2022, joining Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson (16 times) and Manny Machado (twice) as the lone members of the team to do so. Palmer, 20, posted a 2-0 record with a 2.13 ERA in 13 appearances (eight starts) with Single-A Fayetteville. The 6-foot-5 right-hander was selected by the Astros in the 19th round of the 2024 first-year player draft out of Connors State College in Oklahoma. Kittredge, 35, is 2-2 with a 3.45 ERA in 31 relief appearances this season since signing a one-year, $9 million contract in February. He is 25-14 with 16 saves and a 3.44 ERA in 286 career relief appearances (15 starts) with the Rays, St. Louis Cardinals and Orioles. De La Cruz, 17, batted .262 in 27 games in the Dominican Summer League.

Detroit Tigers linked to Gold Glove third baseman from Baltimore

The Detroit Tigers must add to their roster before the MLB trade deadline, despite having the best record in baseball. Detroit has a stellar lineup, but its third base situation remains questionable after Alex Bregman signed with the Boston Red Sox during the winter. While the Tigers should aim for elite players to elevate the team's offensive performance, there are more concerns with their bullpen. However, could Detroit still target a Gold Glove award-winning third baseman? . Detroit Tigers could look into Baltimore third baseman Ramon Urias Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold suggested an idea on his podcast, Days of Roar, on what the team could do with third base this summer. It may not be an attractive option that elevates the Tigers to a new level, but it provides depth and insurance for their infield defense. 'I think you put all the chips in,' Petzold said about the Tigers' trade deadline. 'But do the Tigers go a different route? Maybe they go the Ramon Urias route, where you get a right-handed hitting infielder. He hits against left-handed pitchers. He's an offensive upgrade from a guy like Andy Ibanez. Those are some not-so-big-boy names that maybe protect that long-term sustainability, but maybe you don't offer you the best chance to win the World Series in 2025.' Urias, 31, won a Gold Glove as a third baseman three years ago and currently has a .725 OPS against left-handed pitching in 2025. The Orioles' third baseman had a hot start to the season with a .938 OPS but has been inconsistent lately. Urias had a tough May and start of July while hitting well in April and June. The hope is that Detroit can acquire an elite third baseman, but there aren't many options ahead of the MLB trade deadline. Urias would represent a low-cost option that provides solid splits against left-handed pitching and the elite defense that Detroit's infield needs moving Headlines Ohio State Burned by 5-Star Recruit as Texas Scores Big Win Over Buckeyes Before Week 1 Clash ESPN NBA Expert: Lakers 'Stressed' About Luka Doncic Deal Soccer games today: Wednesday's MLS schedule, Liga MX fixtures and more 10 Storylines to Watch at The Open Championship's Return to Royal Portrush

Suspended Dodgers MVP Candidate Has Comeback Interest From 'Multiple Teams': Report

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Dodgers have several arms on the mend as they look toward the second half of the season, but one former pitcher preparing for a return is in a different category. Julio Urias, who pitched for the Dodgers for eight years before Major League Baseball suspended him for a second time for violating its domestic violence and sexual assault policy, is preparing to continue his career when he is removed from the restricted list this week. "He still has every intention to continue his career," Urias' agent Scott Boras said, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. "He's getting in shape. Obviously, he'll have options that are open to him." Urias was one of the most effective pitchers in baseball during his career with the Dodgers, which included a 31-start, 2.16 ERA campaign three years ago that earned him votes for the National League's Most Valuable Player Award as well as a third-place finish for the Cy Young Award. (Photo by) More Petersen/Getty But the controversy associated with Urias after his second suspension and the fact that he hasn't pitched in a major league game for two years could stand in the way of a return. In any case, teams are at least checking in on him, per Shaikin. "It is believed that multiple teams have checked in on Urias, but it is uncertain whether a deal would be struck and, if so, (how) he might be able to help a major league team," Shaikin wrote. Urias recorded the final out in the Dodgers' World Series championship five years ago and his former team has a clear need for some pitching reinforcement. But, given his issues off the field, it seems unlikely that he'll fund a reunion with his old team. More MLB: Alex Bregman Breaks Silence on Signing New Red Sox Contract

Ex-GM suggests Tigers consider low-cost AL East option at trade deadline

Ex-GM suggests Tigers consider low-cost AL East option at trade deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tigers don't need a blockbuster trade for a third baseman at the deadline. At least not according to former MLB GM Jim Duquette. Advertisement On Thursday's edition of 'Power Alley' on MLB Network Radio, Duquette suggested that the Tigers might be better off making a quieter move. He suggested targeting Baltimore's Ramon Urias instead of chasing a high-profile name like Eugenio Suarez, who they have been linked to in the last few weeks. The Orioles, perhaps the biggest disappointment in 2025, haven't been able to climb back into contention. It seems unlikely that they will be able to get back to the playoffs this season. And their trade earlier on Thursday, sending reliever Bryan Baker to Tampa Bay, might be a sign that they're getting ready to sell at the deadline. Advertisement He's not flashy, but he's dependable. And affordable. Urias is earning $3.15 million this year and has one more year of arbitration left. He's hitting .255 with six home runs, 29 RBIs, and a .687 OPS through 64 games. His gritty, infield versatility fits in with the Tigers' roster right now. . Urias has played the bulk of his innings at third base this season, but he's capable of moving around the infield. He won a Gold Glove at third in 2022. And with A.J. Hinch continuing to mix and match lineups, adding a right-handed bat with defensive versatility makes a lot of sense. The Tigers are cruising into the All-Star break, clicking on all cylinders. They have the best record in baseball, a double-digit lead in the division, and are poised for a big push in the second half. Advertisement If Baltimore keeps signaling they're open for business, Urias could be a clean, sensible fit for the Tigers. Related: Is This the Arm That Could Push the Tigers Over the Top? Yankees Urged To Swing Rare Intra-Divisional Trade For Infielder

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees hold onto the lead of the loaded American League East, but if they don't upgrade their infield and starting rotation, they might not have this lead for long. While the Yankees have tried every internal approach possible to fill these gaping roster voids, it seems like they're going to need to turn to the trade market for a solid upgrade. Zachary Howell of Clutch Points recently suggested the Yankees could trade infield prospect Jesus Rodriguez to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for veteran infielder Ramón Urías. It would be a rare intra-divisional trade between two AL East rivals. The Tigers defeated the Yankees 4-0. More Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via Getty Images "This trade nets the Yankees another versatile defensive piece to throw at their problem at second base. Urias is an above-average fielder with enough pop at the plate to give Boone confidence putting him in his order," Howell wrote. "Trades that stay within the AL East are rare, especially between the Orioles and Yankees, though. "Despite Baltimore's belief that they can recover their season, not much has changed. Urias joins a growing list of players that could be moved at the deadline to contenders who want them. The Yankees need him more so to cover their defensive weakness at second, but he would also be an offensive upgrade over LeMahieu." It would be quite shocking to see the Orioles swing a deal with the Yankees to help push the Bronx Bombers in the right direction, but Urías is clearly an expendable player on Baltimore's roster. This trade could make sense, but it's more likely the Yankees will be forced to look outside the division for help. Still, adding an infielder will likely sit at the top of the Yankees' priorities this season. More MLB: Red Sox Need Righty Pop; Could Braves $65 Million Slugger Be Fit?
