Water shortage warning issued for Ezakheni and Acaciavale
Uthukela District Municipality has issued a water shortage warning to all areas in Ezakheni and Acaciavale that receive water from the Tugela River. According to the municipality, the river level has dropped, causing extensive damage to the pumps. As a result, three of the pumps at the Ezakheni Water Treatment Works have been drawing in air, which has led to damage to the bearings and other electrical components.
To avoid further damage, some of the pumps have been turned off. The municipality is in the process of sourcing a service provider to carry out the necessary repairs and to extend the pipe for the pumps that have been shut down.
Currently, only two pumps are operational. Therefore, water interruptions should be expected in most areas. The municipality stated that they will keep the community updated on the latest developments.
