73-year-old woman crushed to death as engineer loses control over SUV

MUMBAI: A 73-year-old woman died on Wednesday after being run over by an automatic Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Matunga. The car belonged to a 39-year-old software engineer who was trying to park it when he accidentally accelerated and hit the woman. 73-year-old Jayaben Parekh lost her life after an SUV hit her in the Matunga area. (Photo by HT Photo) (Raju Shinde) According to the police, the car's owner, Manohar Taduka, is a resident of Nerul and had come to meet his sister at the Bhau Daji Lad Road, in Matunga. While he was parking his vehicle, the deceased, Jayabhen Parekh, who lives with her family in Dadar and runs a garment business, was on her way to meet her sister. The police said that as Taduka tried to park the car outside the building, he lost control of it. 'The SUV rammed into the 73-year-old and she came under the front tyre and was dragged for some distance,' said a police officer, adding that Taduka immediately rushed her to the Sion Hospital. Her son, Manoj Parekh, 53, was informed, but by the time he arrived at the hospital, his mother had succumbed to her injuries, the police said. The police have booked Taduka under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police added that they have also given a notice to Taduka under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Will DTE Energy (DTE) Beat Estimates Again in Its Next Earnings Report?

Looking for a stock that has been consistently beating earnings estimates and might be well positioned to keep the streak alive in its next quarterly report? DTE Energy (DTE), which belongs to the Zacks Utility - Electric Power industry, could be a great candidate to consider. When looking at the last two reports, this utility has recorded a strong streak of surpassing earnings estimates. The company has topped estimates by 4.74%, on average, in the last two quarters. For the last reported quarter, DTE Energy came out with earnings of $2.1 per share versus the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.98 per share, representing a surprise of 6.06%. For the previous quarter, the company was expected to post earnings of $1.46 per share and it actually produced earnings of $1.51 per share, delivering a surprise of 3.42%. With this earnings history in mind, recent estimates have been moving higher for DTE Energy. In fact, the Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction) for the company is positive, which is a great sign of an earnings beat, especially when you combine this metric with its nice Zacks Rank. Our research shows that stocks with the combination of a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) or better produce a positive surprise nearly 70% of the time. In other words, if you have 10 stocks with this combination, the number of stocks that beat the consensus estimate could be as high as seven. The Zacks Earnings ESP compares the Most Accurate Estimate to the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter; the Most Accurate Estimate is a version of the Zacks Consensus whose definition is related to change. The idea here is that analysts revising their estimates right before an earnings release have the latest information, which could potentially be more accurate than what they and others contributing to the consensus had predicted earlier. DTE Energy has an Earnings ESP of +3.14% at the moment, suggesting that analysts have grown bullish on its near-term earnings potential. When you combine this positive Earnings ESP with the stock's Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), it shows that another beat is possibly around the corner. Investors should note, however, that a negative Earnings ESP reading is not indicative of an earnings miss, but a negative value does reduce the predictive power of this metric. Many companies end up beating the consensus EPS estimate, though this is not the only reason why their shares gain. Additionally, some stocks may remain stable even if they end up missing the consensus estimate. Because of this, it's really important to check a company's Earnings ESP ahead of its quarterly release to increase the odds of success. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported. Want the latest recommendations from Zacks Investment Research? Alembic Pharma acquires UK-based Utility Therapeutics for $12 million to expand US presence

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Inc., the wholly owned US subsidiary of Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited, has announced the acquisition of UK-based Utility Therapeutics Ltd. This strategic move marks Alembic's entry into the branded anti-infective segment in the United States, particularly focusing on treatments for urinary tract infections (UTIs). Utility Therapeutics is engaged in developing pharmaceutical products aimed at combating UTIs, a widespread medical condition in the US. The acquisition brings two key assets into Alembic's fold — 'Pivya,' an FDA-approved treatment for uncomplicated UTIs, and 'MEC,' a pipeline product currently under development to address complicated UTI cases. Alembic Pharmaceuticals sees this acquisition as a significant step towards strengthening its presence in the US market with branded specialty products. The deal allows Alembic to market Utility's assets in the US, leveraging the regulatory approvals already in place and continuing the development of promising pipeline therapies. The total consideration for the acquisition is expected to be around $12 million, paid in a staggered manner depending on the achievement of specific milestones. It also includes a provision for profit sharing based on future earnings generated by Utility's products. The transaction does not fall under the related party category, and none of the promoters or group companies have any financial interest in the deal. Completion of the acquisition is anticipated within approximately 30 days, and no additional regulatory approvals are required. This acquisition aligns with Alembic's strategy of expanding its global footprint and diversifying its product offerings in regulated markets like the US. Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the mobile application, formerly known as Sarawak Pay, has registered 1.59 million users and 94,700 merchants, marking steady growth in digital payment adoption. 'This platform, managed by SiliconNet Technologies and accredited by Bank Negara Malaysia, enables users to make digital payments for bills and purchases, with top-up options via online banking, credit or debit cards, and BSN agents. 'It supports a comprehensive cashless ecosystem with key features including QR code payments, bill splitting, fund transfers, eGifts, loyalty rewards, discount coupons, insurance services, study loan payments, food ordering, donations, parking payments, and more,' he said. His remarks were delivered by his ministry's deputy permanent secretary Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab during the Digital Technology Nexus 2025 (DigitalNEXUS) organised by Universiti Sarawak Malaysia (Unimas) at Hilton Hotel here today. Julaihi emphasised that as Sarawak deepens its digital footprint, a robust data governance structure is essential to support emerging technologies and public service transformation. 'We need to ensure that we have a comprehensive Data Governance and Management Framework focusing on People, Processes and Technology to maximise the value of Big Data,' he said. 'Since mid-2024, the Sarawak Multimedia Authority has been leading the development of a comprehensive Data Governance Framework for Sarawak.' He added that the final report outlines recommendations including legislative reforms, governance structures, and a phased roadmap for policy development, capacity building, and rollout. 'A phased roadmap which highlights the next steps in policy development, capacity building, and operational rollout will commence this year,' he said. cashless payment julaihi narawi s pay global Syed Mohamad Fauzi

Soon regional renewable hub energy

Published on: Thursday, June 12, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 12, 2025 Text Size: Abang Johari said the 2023 amendment to the Sarawak Electricity Ordinance was a significant step in accelerating the development of renewable energy. - Bernama pic KUCHING: Sarawak is forging ahead with its Energy Transition Policy (SET-P), charting a clear path toward a low-carbon and sustainable energy future to support the state's rapid and inclusive development, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic). In a keynote address, 'Renewable Energy Sarawak: Powering Sustainable Growth', delivered by Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki at the 18th International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Exhibition and Conference (SNEC PV) in Shanghai, China, Abang Johari hailed energy security and affordability as the key pillars of the state's long-term development agenda. Advertisement 'Sarawak aims to achieve 10 gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity by 2030, and 15GW by 2035, positioning the state as a renewable energy leader in the region. 'Sarawak currently has an installed capacity of 5,898 megawatts (MW), with over 60 per cent coming from hydropower, supported by thermal generation to ensure energy security. 'Reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy is essential to meet the growing demands of our people and industries,' he said, as quoted in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) repport. Abang Johari said the 2023 amendment to the Sarawak Electricity Ordinance was a significant step in accelerating the development of renewable energy. Abang Johari also highlighted the state's push for solar energy, citing the successful commissioning of the 50MW Batang Ai Floating Solar Farm in December last year – the first hydro-solar hybrid initiative in Malaysia. 'Sarawak is targeting 1,500MW of solar generation capacity by 2030 and is exploring more largescale floating solar projects in collaboration with regional and international partners. 'We are committed to making Sarawak the 'Battery of Asean' by exporting renewable energy to our neighbours. 'The success of our crossborder electricity export to West Kalimantan in 2016 has spurred plans to expand energy connectivity to Sabah, Brunei, Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. 'These efforts contribute to the development of an integrated Borneo Grid and, eventually, the Asean Power Grid,' he said. The ongoing SNEC PV Conference features over 3,000 exhibitors representing 95 countries, and serves as a key platform for policy updates, market trends, and global energy stakeholder engagement. Abang Johari also extended an invitation to global industry players to attend the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (Saref 5.0), scheduled to be held in Kuching this Sept 3 and 4. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
