Stunning convertible that Jeremy Clarkson says has ‘most brilliant engine' is being ‘AXED' after 7 years

AN iconic convertible that Jeremy Clarkson praised for having the 'most brilliant engine' is reportedly being axed after seven years. According to Japanese outlet Creative Trend, the beloved Lexus LC 500 is nearing the end of its production. 4 4 Despite the LC being heralded as one of the best-looking motors of the modern era by car lovers, the LC will reportedly be discontinued after the 2026 model year. The popular Japanese manufacturer has been selling the convertible since 2018. TFL car explained that while the LC has received a few minor updates along the way, what makes the motor is the styling, as well as its 471-horsepower 6.0-liter V8. Clarkson told The Sunday Times that the LC's engine "is just the most brilliant," in 2020 The ex Top Gear star said: "The Lexus sets off on a creamy, seamless wave of horsepower, which fills your head with serotonin and dopamine and all the other brain chemicals you need to stay alive and intelligent." He has also praised the Lexus 5-litre V8 engine before when it was used in the GS F. According to The Sunday Times, he likened the engine's sound to a "lonely wolf," and said he "liked it a very lot." Creative Trend reported that the automaker is sending out the LC in the home market with a special 'Pinnacle Edition' Lexus are only planning to manufacture 100 units each of the coupe and convertible, which will reportedly go to Japanese customers. It plans to sell half of the limited run to current interested owners, and the other half to the general public. New Nissan Leaf tested - it's bigger, better and goes further According to the report, the coupe will have a matte silver look, while the convertible will be a Neutrino Gray with a sand-coloured top, however, images of the new vehicle are yet to be released. It has also been reported that this edition will come with a carbon fibre rear spoiler, red break calipers, and distinct 21-inch alloy wheels. This will be their last car to come out with a V8 engine In response to this discontinuation, Yahoo autos said: 'Far too many V8 cars are disappearing these days, including the Lexus LC 500, if a new report is to be believed. 'While it is sad news we would love not to be true, the writing has been on the wall for a while, so we are not surprised.' 4

Lexus IS 500 Climax Edition Marks End of V8 Compact Sedan

Add this to the long list of weird car names The last compact sedan with a V8 engine really is on its way out. After Mercedes-AMG killed the V8 in the C63, the Lexus IS 500 was the last sedan of this size to retain a V8, but it seems this characterful Lexus won't be around for much longer, both in America and beyond. A few weeks ago, Lexus announced the IS 500 Ultimate Edition, a run of just 500 models that will be sold in North America. Now, it's Japan's turn to say goodbye to this sedan with the IS 500 Climax Edition. As far as car names go, this one can be thrown into the same box as the Daihatsu Naked and Ford Probe. Awkward name aside, this special edition is likely to become something of a collector's item in the years ahead. 0:03 / 0:09 Thinking about buying a Toyota RAV4? These 5 rivals might change your mind Watch More Sporty Styling Upgrades Much like our own Ultimate Edition, the Climax Edition will feature 19-inch forged BBS wheels in a sinister matte black finish. These partially conceal upgraded Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers. To match the black trim, special Neutrino Gray paint has been introduced for this model, which is inspired by neutrinos. If you also had no clue what those are, they're elementary particles produced in outer space, where they move at the speed of light. Eight other colors will be available for the Climax Edition, though. Inside, Lexus Japan has hilariously added several IS 500 'Climax Edition' plaques, not that anyone owning this car would forget what it's called. A red and black color scheme adds to the raunchy look, and even the analog clock in the center of the dashboard gets a new background. Familiar Power, Epic Soundtrack Nothing has changed under the hood, not that it had to. Producing 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, the rear-wheel-drive IS 500 can run from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. That time is no longer earth-shattering, but it's accompanied by a soundtrack that no rival can match. Keep your foot planted, and the fastest IS will reach 149 mph. Paddle shifters can be used to take manual control over the eight-speed automatic transmission. In Japan, the IS 500 Climax Edition goes for 9,500,000 yen, which is equivalent to around $65,000. It's set to go on sale in August, and America's own Ultimate Edition will go on sale later this fall. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

Bentley's New Bentayga Will Have 'More Power' Than the W-12

Bentley already offers a smattering of engine options for the Bentayga SUVs, ranging from the base V-6 hybrid to the powerful V-8 Speed. But now, the British luxury car maker has another Bentayga on the horizon—and it promises to be even more potent than the previous W-12 model. Bentley is keeping most of the juicy details a secret, but the company does promise a V-8 engine with "more power" than the previous 12-cylinder Speed model, a standard sports exhaust, and even a new Sport calibration with a drift mode. That's right, a Bentley that drifts . The company also says that this new Bentayga will be "faster and more agile" than any Bentley SUV before it, as well as the "most emotional and engaging Bentayga to date." For reference, the Bentayga W-12 made 600 horsepower and could race to 60 miles per hour in 4.0 seconds flat before it was discontinued last year. Of course, we've already seen Bentley's new V-8 hybrid powertrain in the metal, which makes nearly 740 horsepower and returns up to 50 miles of electric range (WLTP). Last May, the company said that this new hybrid powertrain would 'define the future of Bentley"—so we assume this is what will be underhood of the upcoming Bentayga. But we won't know for sure until the new Bentayga debuts. Bentley will show its powerful new SUV on Monday, June 2, at 7:00 AM ET (12:30 BST). Mark your calendars.
