Govt will train CSCs in AI, address duplication in State govt efforts: Vaishnaw

Common Service Centres (CSCs) around the country will receive free Artificial Intelligence training, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, told a packed gathering of Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) who run the tech centres on Tuesday (July 15, 2025). Mr. Vaishnaw also said that the government would address duplication issues posed by States' own digital service centres. The Minister was speaking at the annual CSC Diwas, where VLEs from around the country gather. CSCs are key in making online government services and websites available to people living in remote areas. Lalremruata, 29, a VLE in Lawngtlai, Mizoram had 'facilitated business worth over ₹8 crore through his CSC in the financial year 2024–25,' the government said in an award citation. Mr. Lalremruata was felicitated at the event alongside other VLEs working in remote districts. There are over 5.6 lakh CSCs in India, and over four-fifths of them are in rural areas. Aadhaar buzz While Mr. Vaishnaw and Minister of State for IT Jitin Prasada spoke, much of the VLEs' enthusiastic applause went to Bhuvnesh Kumar, who is the chief executive officer of the Aadhaar issuing Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). CSCs have not been able to perform enrolments and major updates for Aadhaar since 2018, following an order of the Supreme Court. Still, VLEs hope to regain that business, as Aadhaar enrolment and updates are a potentially high volume business. Mr. Prasada and Mr. Vaishnaw said they would look into the issue, but did not commit themselves to reopening all Aadhaar enrolment and update activities to CSCs just yet (VLEs can only perform address and other 'demographic' updates for the moment). 'Don't clap until the work is done,' Mr. Prasada said. Mr. Vaishnaw said he would discuss the issue with Mr. Kumar. Mr. Prasada pointed to the issue of cybersecurity, and urged VLEs to work with the government on the issue. India has seen major digitisation, he said. 'But with such big achievements, there are equally big challenges and those challenges are of cyber security in which you will also play a very important role to equip the people of India,' he said. 'All these things are related to the security of the country. We should take care of the people and there should be a constant dialogue.'

2027 Mercedes-Benz VLE Is Already Showing Off What It Can Do In Public

Merc VLE Appears To Be Imminent Exactly a week ago, Mercedes-Benz teased a new minivan called the VLE, providing a few shots of a pre-production development vehicle covered in blue camouflage. Our spies have now seen that same camouflage on another VLE van, but on this one, a few minor cosmetic changes suggest there can't be much testing left to do for the upcoming luxury minivan. In the teaser images from last week, there was a very simple daytime running light graphic in the headlights, the wheels were a somewhat generic double-spoke design that could have been from almost any existing product, and the taillights were pre-production placeholders. These spy shots show a vehicle with stylish differences in each of those areas. Mercedes VLE Prepares To Join A New Generation Like the other upcoming Mercedes models we've spotted undergoing testing of late, from the electric CLA to the facelifted S-Class, the lights feature a Three-pointed Star motif at the front and the rear. At the front, they're among the DRLs, while at the back… well, we can't say exactly how often the symbol will appear, but it will likely be a repeating image in the vertical bars framing the tailgate. It's also worth noting that the tailgate integrates a small lip spoiler over it, which is less about downforce and more about cleaning the turbulent air in the van's wake. More evidence of the ambition for aerodynamic efficiency can be found in the wheels and their directional spokes, but that's not the only neat trick found within the arches. The VLE Should Be Easy To Drive As the spy photos clearly show, one of the daily struggles facing the van driver in the busy and narrow European city is that of making sharp turns, but with a rather aggressive take on low-speed rear-wheel steering, this VLE electric van seems well-equipped to meet the challenge. It should also be easy to live with from a range perspective, as Mercedes claims that two test vehicles traveled 683 miles between Stuttgart and Rome and only needed two 15-minute charging stops along the way. That will be put to the test when the VLE debuts sometime next year, and given how many aerodynamic efficiency and range records Mercedes has claimed, we expect big things. Mercedes-Benz is putting the finishing touches to the VLE, the first in a new wave of electric vans that will arrive next year as part of a new-look V-Class range. It is based on Mercedes' new Van Electric Architecture ( and will be a more focused proposition than the existing V-Class, which is based on the Vito van. Essentially a van equivalent to the E-Class saloon, it will be positioned under the more opulent VLS that Mercedes refers to as a 'grand limousine', and instead target large families and taxi firms. The VLE is currently being tested ahead of its launch, which is expected to take place next year. Much of the work has focused on validating the van's efficiency and performance, with the most recent test – a run from Stuttgart in Germany to Rome in Italy, crossing the Alps – investigating its endurance. Mercedes said its test engineers drove according to 'normal operation' on the road and the cabin was air conditioned to 22deg C for the entire route. The vehicle completed the drive in 13 hours, stopping twice – for 15min at a time – to recharge. Given the total route is 683 miles long, that points to a real-world range of around 250 to 300 miles, although Mercedes has yet to disclose an official figure. 'Our future MPVs have once again impressively demonstrated their suitability for everyday use,' said Andreas Zygan, head of development for Mercedes-Benz Vans. In addition to eight-seat MPVs, the VLE is also expected to spawn various specialised versions, such as an electric counterpart to the Marco Polo camper. ]]>

View post: Amazon is selling a 'convenient' $40 tire inflator for just $20, and shoppers say it's a 'must-have' in your car View post: Ferrari Just Fixed The Most Annoying Thing About New Cars The electric van tackles the Eurotrip Mercedes-Benz gave curious customers and enthusiasts an update on one of its future vehicles on July 2. New photos show heavily camouflaged versions of the three-pointed star's upcoming all-electric VLE vans on the streets of Rome following a test that saw it traverse over 1,090 kilometers (~677 miles) across Europe from its technical home in Stuttgart. 0:03 / 0:09 VW will introduce a sub-$20,000 EV, but probably not here Watch More The test served as a preview for vehicles that will soon be produced on the automaker's new 'modular and scalable' electric Van Architecture, which will underpin models described as the 'next generation' of 'Grand Limousines and commercial transporters,' adaptable to meet particular customer needs. The vehicle tested on the ultra-long drive was the VLE, a van that is said to be configurable for up to eight seats, including 'flexible vehicles for families and leisure active customers to exclusive VIP shuttles.' The VLE's journey from Stuttgart to Rome was not intended to be a picturesque photoshoot with a van with funky graphics, nor was it some sort of Roman holiday for Mercedes engineers using company property; some serious real-world usability testing was conducted. Previous expeditions included cold-weather testing in Sweden and a northern route from Stuttgart to Norway's North Cape. The road trip was a test of the van's performance under the kind of conditions a theoretical van driver would undertake including a wide range of altitudes, extreme temperature changes from 11°C (52°F) in Germany to 33°C (91°F) in Rome, as well as a diverse variety of roads that included Alpine passes, highways, country roads, and narrow European city streets. On the road, engineers measured the vehicle's drivetrain performance, regenerative braking efficiency, and thermal management as it encountered various conditions. One particular feature that engineers liked was the VLE's rear-axle steering, which was helpful on both winding mountain roads and in the tight, cramped streets of Rome. 'Our future MPVs have once again impressively demonstrated their suitability for everyday use on the long-distance route,' said Dr. Andreas Zygan, Head of Development at Mercedes-Benz Vans. 'With just two short charging stops from Stuttgart to the Alps to Rome, the Mercedes-Benz VLE demonstrates impressive efficiency of the new Van Electric Architecture.' Even with these hurdles, the VLE completed the 13-hour journey while keeping the cabin at a reasonably comfortable temperature and stopping only twice to charge, which took 15 minutes each. Final thoughts Mercedes-Benz plans to launch its vehicles in 2026, which it calls a 'completely new era' for its van lineup. According to Mercedes, there will be a clear distinction between its passenger and utility vans and what it calls Grand Limousines. Last month, Mercedes showed off what such 'Grandness' could look like in the form of the Vision V concept, a luxurious van concept that features a 'Private Lounge' for passengers. I do not fathom any sort of 'personal use' for vans like the VLE or VLS, nor am I a certified member of #vanlife. Still, it is impressive to know that one of the van leaders is ready to tackle the electric era with a vehicle capable of the extreme adventures it might have to tackle in everyday use.
