DMK to begin door-to-door campaign tomorrow
Coimbatore: Former electricity minister V Senthilbalaji on Tuesday said the DMK members would meet 11.58 lakh families in the district to explain to them the state govt's achievements, especially the schemes for the people of Coimbatore, in the past four years. "DMK functionaries and cadres will meet the residents in person and inform them about the injustices being done to Tamil Nadu by the BJP. They will simultaneously carry out the membership campaign. The work will commence on July 3. We will conduct public meetings at three places on Wednesday evening to convey the betrayals of the BJP govt at the Centre to the people," Senthilbalaji said while addressing the media at his office at Peelamedu here in the afternoon. Pointing out that the district was home to 31.85 lakh voters, he said the DMK's target was to attract 10 lakh voters to the party. Senthilbalaji said chief minister M K Stalin was restoring the rights of Tamil Nadu that were lost during the AIADMK regime. 500 tamers and 800 bulls on song at jallikattu held after three years in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: After a gap of three years, the district witnessed a jallikattu event near Neelambur bypass at Chettipalayam on Sunday with the participation of 800 bulls and 500 tamers. Minister for electricity, prohibition and excise V Senthilbalaji flagged off the event in the presence of Coimbatore collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar and superintendent of police K Karthikeyan. A large crowd witnessed the event jointly organised by the Tamilar Jallikattu Panpattu Peravai and the Coimbatore district administration. Prior to the event, the bull tamers took an oath administered by the district collector. The sporting event began with the release of the Karivaratharaja Perumal temple bull from the 'Vaadivasal', followed by others in sequence. The tamers participated in batches, with 50 tamers allowed into the arena for each round, which lasted an hour. Those who successfully tamed bulls qualified for the final round. A wide range of prizes were given to the winners, including gold coins, steel cots, bureaus, and utensils. Women who brought their bulls to the arena were cheered by the spectators and the organising committee. The event left more than 50 bull tamers injured, but they were treated as outpatients on the spot. Abisithar from Sivaganga district, who tamed 21 bulls, won the first prize — a car. Mani from Madurai, who tamed 18 bulls, secured second place and received a two-wheeler. Bala from Virudhunagar, who tamed 15 bulls, came third and was awarded an electric scooter. The title for the best bull went to the Virudhunagar Karuppaiah Konar bull, which was awarded a car.

Facing court ire, Ministers Senthilbalaji, Ponmudy removed from TN Cabinet
Chennai, Apr 27 (UNI) As widely expected, senior Tamil Nadu Ministers V Senthilbalaji and K Ponmudy, who were facing the court ire were on Sunday night removed from the Tamil Nadu Cabinet. This was accepted by Governor R N Ravi on recommendations from Chief Minister M K Stalin, a Raj Bhavan comunique said. Mr Senthilbalaji, who was re-inducted into the Cabinet with the same portfolios of Electricity, Prohibition and Excise in September last year, was given an ultimatum by the Supreme Court till Monday (tomorrow) to decide on Minister post or bail after he was arrested under PMLA in the cash for jobs scam, while Mr Ponmudy was facing suo motu proceedings initiated by the Madras High Court for his recent derogatory and uncivilised remarks against women linking to Hindu religion, resulting in strong condemnation from Opposition parties, following which he was removed from the post of DMK Deputy General Secretary by Mr Stalin himself.
