Field Medical raises $35m to advance ablation system development
Field Medical has closed a $35m series B financing round for advancing the development of the FieldForce pulsed field ablation platform. This round was co-led by BioStar Capital and Cue Growth, with contributions from current strategic investors. The funds will also facilitate the launch of the pivotal VERITAS trial and strengthen the company's clinical and regulatory capabilities. It brings Field Medical's total funding to $75m. BioStar Capital founder and senior managing director Dr Louis Cannon said: 'Field Medical's transformative technology is doing what few companies dare to do – tackling one of the most difficult and under-addressed challenges in cardiology with real innovation and urgency. 'Their physician-led team brings the right insight, and their FieldForce platform brings the right tools.' In 2024, the FieldForce ablation system received breakthrough device designation and was selected for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) TAP Pilot programme for ventricular tachycardia (VT). The next-generation system has been designed for transmural lesion creation and provides a new approach to VT ablation. It remains an investigational device, limited to research use under US law. SUV driver arrested for reckless driving, hitting police vehicle in Gurgaon
The Gurgaon city police arrested a man Wednesday morning for allegedly driving an SUV recklessly, endangering lives, and ramming into a police emergency response vehicle (ERV) near the Sikanderpur Metro station. The accused, identified as Bharat, 26, from Salawatpur Khedi in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended after a high-speed chase and public altercation, said the police. The incident unfolded on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, when the DLF Phase-2 police station received a vehicle tracking (VT) alert about a suspicious black Scorpio with black-tinted windows and no rear number plate. The ERV-246 team, stationed under the Metro station, spotted the vehicle speeding towards IFFCO Chowk. Bharat allegedly ignored police signals to stop, broke through a barricade at IFFCO Chowk, and continued driving recklessly along M G Road. The chase ended back at Sikanderpur Metro station, where a crowd prompted Bharat to stop. In an attempt to flee, he allegedly reversed the vehicle, striking the police ERV and causing damage. The gathered crowd assaulted Bharat and his fellow passenger, Sahil Tanwar, before the police intervened, calming the situation. Upon investigation, only Bharat was found culpable and arrested since Tawar was not intoxicated. The police booked Bharat at the DLF Phase-2 police station under relevant sections for reckless driving, endangering lives, obstructing government duties, and damaging public property. They recovered the Scorpio vehicle and liquor bottles found inside it. The vehicle's black-tinted windows and missing number plate had initially raised suspicion, leading to the VT alert. Yashwant, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sadar, Gurgaon, who was on patrol, coordinated efforts to apprehend the suspect. 'Swift action by our teams ensured the driver was apprehended, averting further risk to public safety,' the police said. The police said Bharat's vehicle had been spotted by them and kept at the Sushant police station earlier due to its tinted windows and lack of number plate. Further investigation is ongoing, and Bharat remains in custody, said the police.
