Priyank Kharge: Delegation will be taken to Centre urging to include Koli-Kabbaliga community in STs list
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Kalaburagi District in charge Priyank Kharge said that a delegation would soon be taken to the Centre urging it to include the Koli and Kabbaliga communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list. Speaking at the inauguration of Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdaiya Raitha Bhavana in Honnakiranagi village, built at a cost of ₹50 lakh, and the foundation-laying of development works worth ₹2.4 crore, Mr. Priyank said he had already written to the Union government in this regard. 'Although our party is not in power at the Centre, we will discuss the matter with Backward Classes Welfare Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi and take a delegation to rectify the lapses pointed out by the Centre in this regard,' he said. Reiterating Congress party's commitment to ensuring economic and social justice as enshrined in the Preamble to the Constitution, Mr. Priyank said that his party, whenever came to power, made sincere efforts to uplift the most marginalised sections of society. Reaffirming his commitment to the development of the Choudadampur region, he said a statue of Ambigara Chowdaiya would be installed in a prominent location in Bengaluru. He also announced that a ₹4 crore district-level Ambigara Chowdaiya Bhavana had been completed and would be inaugurated soon in the presence of the Chief Minister and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. Terming Ambigara Chowdaiya as a true Sharana (reformer) who reflected social reality and human values through his Vachana compositions, the Minister urged the youth to understand the Sharana philosophy. 'BJP leaders are using poor youths for religious fanaticism while sending their own children abroad for education. Communities like Koli, Kabbaliga, Edigas, and Mogaveeras must remain cautious about such divisive agendas,' he added. 'BJP designs won't work' Earlier in the day, the Minister inaugurated the newly constructed Praja Soudha in Chittapur town, built at a cost of ₹18.41 crore. Speaking at the event after distributing benefits to 517 beneficiaries under various government schemes, he said that government offices must be people-friendly to ensure good governance. 'The old term 'Mini Vidhana Soudha' is being replaced with Praja Soudha to reflect the idea that administration should be closer to the people. The government belongs to the people, and their work should continue uninterrupted,' he said. Accusing the BJP of political opportunism and stoking communal divisions, Mr. Priyank said that the saffron party's experiments in Mangaluru and coastal Karnataka cannot be replicated in this region. 'This land represents harmony and inclusivity. BJP's attempts at communal politics will not work here. The BJP had politicised even the death of a youth in Bidar to create communal divide. But it didn't work,' he said,

Halakatti played big role in conserving Vachana literature: MLC
Mysuru: JD(S) MLC CN Manjegowda on Wednesday praised the contributions of FG Halakatti for the conservation, preservation, and promotion of Vachana literature, which has transformed the lives of millions of people across the country. He spoke after inaugurating Vachana Literature Conservation Day, organised in memory of Halakatti at a function jointly organised by the district administration and the department of Kannada and culture, held at Kirurangamandir here. He also highlighted the contributions of Halakatti, who was an advocate by profession in the North Karnataka region. Halakatti not only collected the Vachanas but also printed and published them, providing wide publicity to spread Vachanas among the masses. People knew only about 50 vachanakaras, but Halakatti, through sheer hard work, determination, and dedication, collected the vachanas written by more than 250 vachanakaras, Sharanas of the 12th century. He also helped in their (vachana) conservation and preservation. Halakatti played a key role in translating various Vachanas into English language. He advised students to imbibe the qualities of Halakatti and strive for the promotion of Vachana literature. Additional deputy commissioner P Shivaraju also remembered the contributions of Halakatti for the promotion of Vachana literature outside the state and his sacrifice for its promotion. JSS Mahavidyapeetha Publications wing director Morabada Mallikarjuna also recalled Halakatti's contributions in organising Vachana recitals in public music events and translating Vachanas into English. He was also instrumental in translating them into several other Indian languages. Joint director of Kannada and culture VM Mallikarjunaswamy and assistant director MD Sudarshan were present.

F.G. Halakatti's contribution to Vachana literature remembered
B.V. Nandeesh, Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, Mandya, on Wednesday said that F.G. Halakatti was a great writer who introduced Vachana literature to the entire world. He was speaking at the birth anniversary programme of Halakatti organised at the Kannada and Culture Department office in Karnataka's Mandya district. 'This year marks the 145th birth anniversary of Halakatti, and his contributions to Kannada vachanas, literature, and translations are immense,' he said. Mr. Nandeesh added that schools and colleges in the district have been called upon to celebrate Halakatti's birth anniversary and introduce students to the writer's life, principles, and ideals.

‘Selfless service of Halakatti got us treasure of vachana literature'
'It is because of the dedicated efforts and selfless service of Halakatti that thousands of vachanas of 12th century reformer Basavanna and his contemporary vachanakaras are now available to us,' chairman of Karnataka Bal Vikas Academy Sangamesh Babaleshwar has said. He was inaugurating the birth anniversary celebrations of Halakatti, better known as 'father of Vachana literature', in Dharwad on Wednesday. The programme was organised by the district administration in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture. 'Vachana literature is considered great with a spiritual message and it is because of Halakatti we got this treasure. Halakatti tirelessly travelled villages, hamlets, and managed to collect thousands of vachanas written on palm leaves. He subsequently compiled them and despite financial constraints set up his own printing press to publish the compilation,' he said. Mr. Sangamesh said that it would be no exaggeration to say that if not for Halakatti's service, the treasure of vachana literature would have been lost. 'That is the reason why Halakatti is called the father of vachana literature and his birth anniversary is being celebrated as vachana literature conservation day,' he said. He also emphasised the need for teaching children about the life and contribution of such personalities and suggested holding birth anniversary celebrations of various vachanakaras in schools and colleges. Mayor of Hubballi Jyoti Patil too emphasised the need for teaching children about vachana literature, which advocated the need for treating everyone equally. Additional Deputy Commissioner Geeta C.D. said that the the vachanas of the sharanas comprised ethical and moral values. Writer Siddanna Langoti delivered a lecture on Halakatti's life and contribution. Chairman of Dr. M.M. Kalburgi National Memorial Trust Viranna Rajur and others were present.

Priyank Kharge expresses gratitude to Kalaburagi citizens for supporting him against BJP attacks
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge thanked citizens of Kalaburagi and supporters across the region for standing in solidarity with him in the wake of personal attacks by BJP leaders. Responding to the derogatory remarks recently made by Leader of Opposition int he Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and others, Mr. Priyank said that the people of Kalaburagi had given a fitting and dignified reply through their massive mobilisation and intellectual resistance. 'The conscious citizens of Kalaburagi, deeply rooted in the philosophy of Basavanna and B.R. Ambedkar have once again reaffirmed their belief in democracy and the Constitution,' Mr. Priyank stated, adding that their overwhelming support had not only strengthened his resolve but also silenced those resorting to personal and ideological attacks. Reflecting on the historical and intellectual legacy of Kalyana Karnataka, Mr. Priyank remarked that the region had been a cradle of progressive thought since the days of the Vachana movement, and would never allow the 'regressive and polluted ideology' of the RSS and the BJP to take root. 'The BJP's attempt to undermine me through personal slander reflects its inability to counter me politically, ideologically, or intellectually. They have launched these attacks because I have fearlessly exposed their failures and corruption,' he said. 'I am not alone. With me are thousands who follow the path of Ambedkar and Basavanna. This spiritual and ideological army gives me the strength and confidence to continue the fight against injustice,' Mr. Priyank said. Reaffirming his commitment to the marginalised, the Minister pledged to carry forward his mission to uplift the underprivileged and continue his efforts to dismantle social inequality. 'Basavanna gives me ideological strength, Babasaheb provides moral strength, and your support gives me the soul force I need. Together, we will confront and defeat the dangerous rise of communal and casteist forces,' he concluded.
