CM: No Aryan worth celebrating, so they attempt to steal Thiruvalluvar
Chennai: There have been attempts to paint Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar in saffron and steal him, since there was none worth celebrating in Aryan culture, chief minister M K Stalin said on Sunday. However, Thiruvalluvar cannot be stolen, he said. "Thiruvalluvar is a rationalist, stood for self respect and advocated social justice. If someone attempts to snatch away Thiruvalluvar, they would not be able to bear the intensity of the poet's verses," the chief minister Stalin said after releasing a book on Thirukkural by lyricist Vairamuthu . In a veiled attack on right wing organisations, Stalin said that rather than stealing, there were attempts to deceive people by painting Thiruvalluvar in saffron. "Tamil society must oppose the attempts to paint ideological colours on Thiruvalluvar." "Manu Neethi cannot enter a place where there was justice based on Thirukkural. Vairamuthu said 850 people have written interpretative commentaries for Thirukkural. "I am 851st person. Step up efforts to declare Thirukkural a national book, says CM Stalin
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday stressed the need to intensify efforts to declare The Thirukkural a national book and to establish a major organisation in Delhi to propagate the ideas of Thiruvalluvar. 'Thiruvalluvar was not only a poet but also a revolutionary, and it is the duty of the Tamils to spread his ideas. While promoting Valluvarism, Tamil society must also oppose attempts to misrepresent him with ideologies that run counter to his teachings,' he said, releasing a commentary on The Thirukkural, Valluvar Marai Vairamuthu Urai, authored by lyricist Vairamuthu. Mr. Stalin alleged that since Aryanism could not claim Thiruvalluvar as its own, there had been attempts to appropriate him by portraying him in saffron. 'Cheating is the appropriate word to describe this appropriation,' he said. He cited several couplets to argue that Thiruvalluvar was a poet of rationalism, social justice, and self-respect. 'Anyone who tries to appropriate him will be scorched by the heat of his ideas. Where the values of The Thirukkural prevail, the Manusmriti has no place,' he added. Former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Mr. Vairamuthu had written the commentary for three types of readers: Tamil scholars, university lecturers, and elected representatives like himself, who love the Tamil language and its literature. He said The Thirukkural is a moral text, but secular in nature. Though Plato and Aristotle authored secular works, Tiruvalluvar lived and wrote in a period much earlier than that of these Greek philosophers. He also conveyed writer Indira Parthasarathy's message to Mr. Vairamuthu, urging him to retain the traditional title 'Kaamathupal' rather than changing it to 'Inbathupal'. Mr. Vairamuthu said a new commentary was necessary because language evolves significantly over a century. 'We lose almost 25 per cent of the words; some become distorted or take on new meanings. 'Kamam' once had a profound meaning, but its connotation has changed.' Former Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu and writer Parveen Sultana were among those who attended the event.

Vairamuthu is a good poet, not good human: Tamil composer backs singer Chinmayi
Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada has been at the receiving end of trolling and hate after she accused legendary lyricist and poet Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct in 2018 during the #MeToo movement. Years later, veteran composer, director and lyricist Gangai Amaran, brother of Ilaiyaraaja, extended his support to her and called his long-time friend Vairamuthu a 'not so good human being'.In an interview with Galatta, Gangai Amaran said, "When I heard about the event that they organised for her, I immediately wanted to attend." Over the years, Chinmayi has spoken up several times and called out celebrities and politicians for platforming Vairamuthu, who has nearly 17 complaints against him from women - some anonymous and some then addressed her sexual harassment claims against Vairamuthu and expressed his support. "She struggled in life to become a playback singer that she is today. But, he [Vairamuthu] was made out to be a good person, while everyone made her the villain [for opening up]. Vairamuthu calls out Tamil filmmakers for using his verses for film titles without permission
Renowned Tamil lyricist and poet Vairamuthu called out the Tamil film industry for using the lyrics of his songs as film titles without seeking his permission. Taking to his X handle, Vairamuthu pointed out how many of his popular lyrics have been turned into film titles over the years, often without anyone seeking his consent. His post, written in Tamil, loosely translated as, 'Many of my verses have been used by the Tamil film industry as film titles. None of those who have taken them have asked my permission or even asked for a word of respect.' In a lengthy post on X, the lyricist also cited some popular Tamil movies that used his lyrics as their film titles. The post received mixed reactions from netizens, with many saying that the lyrics used in his songs do not require permission to be turned into film titles as they are part of the Tamil language. In response to the post, actor Aadhav Kannadasan, who is known for his movies Yaamirukka Bayamey and Karungaapiyam, clarified that he sought permission from Vairamuthu for using his lyrics as the title for his film Ponmaalai Pozhudhu in 2013.
