Noida eyes 6x plantation target this monsoon
Noida: UP minister of state for forest environment and climate change KP Mallick inaugurated Van Mahotsav with the theme 'Ek ped maa ke naam' at Okhla Bird Sanctuary in GB Nagar on Wednesday. At the event, he said, last year, the state targeted planting 35 crore trees and overshot the target by 1.5 crore. The minister called upon all citizens to ensure that this year's target is achieved. GB Nagar, this year, will plant 12 to 13 lakh trees, he said. Mallick said, "After the bifurcation of Uttar Pradesh, the forest-rich belts of the state went to Uttarakhand. However, with the concerted efforts of the forest department and common people, Uttar Pradesh stood the test of time by growing more and more trees." DM GB Nagar Manish Kumar Verma, who was also present at the event, said that while the forest department has taken up a target of planting 2 lakh trees with the help of various stakeholders, including the resident welfare associations, educational institutions, and women self-help groups. The district has been given a target of planting 9.31 lakh trees during the week. "We are working with the hospitals in the district where, for every newborn, a plant is being handed over to the family with the birth certificate of the baby so that they can plant a tree to commemorate the day," he said.

Gorakhpur: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said that when the state with the highest population progresses rapidly, India will set new benchmarks of growth. Inaugurating the academic building, auditorium and Panchakarma Centre at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University in Gorakhpur, she said that education is the most powerful medium of empowerment. She also laid the foundation stone for a girls' hostel and planted a Rudraksha sapling under the ongoing Van Mahotsav celebrations. "Health and safety of eastern UP are directly linked to the overall development of Uttar Pradesh. When the state with the highest population progresses rapidly, India will set new benchmarks of growth. All stakeholders should contribute with determination towards building a developed India," the President said. She said that the girls' hostel project was a significant initiative for women's empowerment, adding that safe accommodation was a major factor in enabling women to pursue higher education. Lauding the efforts of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, she said that institutions inspired by Maharana Pratap embodied the spirit of "Nation First." Sharing her own journey, President Murmu said she travelled 300 km from her village to Bhubaneswar in 1970-71 to continue her education. "Back then, no girl from my village had studied outside. I got a place in a girls' hostel in Bhubaneswar. Today, while much has changed, many girls still face hurdles in pursuing higher education due to lack of secure accommodation," she said. Calling Mahayogi Gorakhnath University the first private institution contributing significantly to higher education in Gorakhpur and surrounding areas, the President praised its efforts in aligning with the National Education Policy 2020. President Murmu noted that her predecessor, Ram Nath Kovind, had inaugurated the university four years ago, and since then it has shown impressive progress. "This institution has become a prominent centre for higher and professional education in eastern UP," she said, crediting the development to the guidance and leadership of Chancellor and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. Highlighting the university's integrated approach to medicine, the President said it operates colleges in allopathy and Ayurveda. Triveni Van: Forest of Peepal, Pakar andNeem to come up at Kukrail picnic spot
Lucknow: 'Triveni Van', the forest consisting of three sacred trees, Peepal, Pakar, and Neem, was planted in Kukrail picnic spot on Tuesday as part of week-long Van Mahotsav campaign by the state govt. Minister of state for environment, forest and climate change (independent charge) Arun Kumar Saxena inaugurated the campaign under which the plan is to plant over 35 crore saplings across the state. T he minister also inaugurated a yoga point and an open gym at the place. It will become a major attraction for visitors coming to the picnic spot, he said. School children were given drumstick saplings in the programme. Awadh forest division, as a part of the tree plantation campaign 2025, gifted a teak sapling symbolising prosperity and development to parents of newborns at Veerangana Avanti Bai Women's Hospital in Lucknow. Renu Singh, APCCF, Lucknow, and Sitanshu Pandey, DFO, Lucknow, distributed green gold birth certificates, flower bouquets, and teak saplings to the families of newborns. President Murmu launches 7-day ‘Van Mahotsav', plants ‘rudraksha' sapling
1 2 Gorakhpur/Lucknow: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday launched the week-long Van Mahotsav at the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur. The mega plantation drive will be carried out from July 1-7 across the country. The President planted a 'Rudraksha' sapling under the 'One Tree for Mother' campaign and emphasised the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices. Murmu interacted with local public representatives and took a tour of the exhibition on traditional medicine systems. Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present. Governor Anandiben Patel also participated in the tree plantation campaign at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. A statement issued on the Governor's visit on the first day of this year's Van Mahotsav said that she ceremonially planted saplings of 'rudraksha' and red sandalwood as plants "symbolise harmony between environmental conservation and familial values". Addressing those gathered for the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, Governor said trees are not just protectors of the environment but also life. "The campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' is an expression of our reverence for both nature and motherhood," Patel said. She also directed the university administration to plant saplings of the same species at one location to ensure their scientific and aesthetic development. UP to plant record 35cr saplings
Lucknow: In a major push to boost green cover in Uttar Pradesh, the forest department, guided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, launched an ambitious plantation drive under Van Mahotsav, with a record target of 35 crore saplings. Alongside this, the department will develop theme-based forests during the monsoon and conduct special plantation drives across the state, aiming to raise tree cover from 9.96% to 15% by 2030. Building on the record-breaking Van Mahotsav campaign, the department will roll out several targeted plantation drives throughout the monsoon season. One such initiative, 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0,' was launched on June 5, encouraging people to plant and nurture a sapling in the name of their mother. Similarly, on Raksha Bandhan, the department will promote plantation in local parks as a symbolic gift between brothers and sisters. On Independence Day, Aug 15, Shaurya Vans will be established in each district in honour of the nation's martyrs and brave soldiers. Another campaign, 'Ek Ped Guru Ke Naam,' will be launched on Sep 5 (Teachers' Day), with saplings planted in tribute to educators. To achieve the 2030 forest cover target, the state is also developing various theme-based forests as per a pre-planned strategy. These include the creation of Atal Van, Ekta Van, Eklavya Van, and Shaurya Van in every district, which will inspire a sense of environmental responsibility and cultural pride among citizens. Additionally, Oxy Vans are being set up in municipal areas to conserve local species, and Gopal Vans are being created in gaushala (cow shelter) premises using shade-providing and fodder-based plant species.
