Telangana CM launches Vanamahotsavam 2025, sets green and women empowerment goals
Hyderabad, July 7 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with Forest Minister Konda Surekha, officially inaugurated Vanamahotsavam 2025 by planting a Rudraksha sapling at Professor Jayashankar Agricultural University today. Marking the beginning of the state's annual plantation drive, the Chief Minister emphasised the deep-rooted connection between people and forests. 'Our elders have said — we are the forest, and the forest is us. If we protect nature, nature will protect us,' he said. The state government has set an ambitious target of planting 18 crore saplings this year. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, the Chief Minister urged people to plant a sapling in the name of their mother and encouraged mothers to do the same in the names of their children. 'Plant at least two saplings in every house and nurture them like your own children,' he appealed, adding that such efforts could transform Telangana into a lush green state. Beyond environmental concerns, the Chief Minister also reiterated his government's strong commitment to women's empowerment. 'Our government is empowering women by entrusting them with key responsibilities — from managing solar plants to running government schools,' he said. Highlighting several initiatives, he noted that women now enjoy free travel in RTC buses, and the government has facilitated the leasing of 1,000 buses by women, making them owners and entrepreneurs. In Hi-Tech City, marketing platforms have been created for products developed by women's self-help groups, especially in areas dominated by global tech giants like Wipro and Microsoft. 'We aim to make one crore women millionaires in Telangana,' Revanth Reddy declared. The government has already disbursed Rs 21,000 crore in loans to women's groups this year, and he called on urban women to join self-help groups to seize these opportunities. He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to uplifting girls and women through education, financial independence, and representation. 'Under Indiramma Rajyam, girls will live with dignity. We are also preparing to implement women's reservation in the Assembly. I take full responsibility for ensuring 60 MLA seats are given to women in the next elections,' he promised. The event was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF) Dr Suvarna, CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MP Mallu Ravi, along with MLAs, MLCs, Corporation Chairpersons, and senior officials from the Forest Department. Mancherial: Ministerfor Labour & Employment Gaddam Vivekanand distributed 423 sanction papers to beneficiaries of the Indiramma Housing scheme in Kotapalli mandal on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasised that the government is committed to delivering effective public administration. The Indiramma Housing Scheme aims to provide homes to all eligible poor individuals. Those who own land and meet the eligibility criteria are being granted financial assistance under this scheme. Across the state, 450,000 houses are being sanctioned, with 3,500 houses allocated per constituency. In Chennur constituency alone, 12,000 applications have been received, and efforts are underway to ensure all eligible applicants receive his camp office in Chennu, he distributed land documents to 44 more beneficiaries. He reassured the public that all eligible individuals would receive homes and advised beneficiaries to construct houses only within the 600 sq. ft. limit as per government norms. He encouraged them to utilize the free sand provided and complete construction quickly. Funds will be deposited in phases—mark-out, basement, lintel, and slab stages. Measures are also being taken to ensure drinking water availability in Chennur constituency, including the installation of borewells in drought-prone areas, he added. Under the Mahalakshmi Scheme, free bus travel has been provided to women, with five buses sanctioned for the Kotapalli region. Women can now travel free of cost to any part of the State. As part of educational development, an integrated school has been established in Somanapalli of Chennur constituency, with teacher appointments made to ensure quality education with full roads and drainage canals have been constructed in every village of the constituency. Development works worth Rs 500 crore are underway in Chennur constituency. The Minister also inaugurated a solar RO water plant at the Primary Health Centre in Kotapalli, funded with Rs 5 lakh from SCCL's CSR funds. He participated in the Vanamahotsavam 2025 programme and planted saplings. The Minister urged officials to work in coordination to achieve the district's assigned targets. To address drinking water needs, the government is implementing pipeline installations, overhead tanks, and maintenance initiatives. The Minister also flagged off four newly sanctioned RTC buses for the Chennur region and encouraged women and locals to make full use of the facilities.

Every nursery in state will be made functional: Telangana minister Surekha
HYDERABAD: Environment & Forests Minister Konda Surekha on Wednesday instructed officials to plant fruit-bearing and medicinal plants along the road margins under Vanamahotsavam programme. She also directed them to plant flower plants on government lands, office premises, schools and along the road margins. The minister unveiled the poster of 'Vanamahotsavam 2025' at her Jubilee Hills residence. Speaking on the occasion, she said that the government will distribute flower and fruit bearing saplings to households to promote greenery. The minister emphasised that detailed planning is crucial at every level —from district to village level, and that Vanamahotsavam should be made a participatory and result-oriented initiative. The plantation drives will be conducted intensively during the peak monsoon months of June, July and August, she added. 'Every nursery at the village level will be made functional to raise and distribute saplings locally, strengthening the sense of ownership among communities,' she said while instructing the officials to launch a massive public campaign on Vanamahotsavam programme. 'In 2024, the state aimed to plant 20.02 crore saplings and achieved 95 per cent of that target by planting 19.04 crore saplings. This year, officials are tasked with achieving 100 per cent target,' she added. Minister receives 109 applications at 'Meet Your Minister' prog Environment & Forests Minister Konda Surekha on Tuesday attended the 'Meet Your Minister' programme at Gandhi Bhavan and received over 100 applications from the public. The minister, who also holds the Endowments portfolio, instructed the officials belonging to departments that come under her to address the grievances of people. She also asked the officials of other departments, including housing and revenue to look into the issues of people and resolve them at the earliest.
