BJP may seek over 35 seats from AIADMK in 2026
COIMBATORE: With the AIADMK and BJP already switching on to election mode, the saffron party is mulling to demand over 35 seats, which is almost double the number they got in the 2021 election, from the Dravidian major. A senior BJP functionary confirmed they are planning to ask for over 35 seats, with additional seats in districts such as Coimbatore, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli and Chennai where the party sees potential for growth. 'In 2021, at a time when we were still laying the foundation in TN, the BJP got 20 seats from AIADMK. Now, we have grown significantly, achieving a double-digit vote share in the 2024 Parliamentary election without the support of the Dravidian parties. Therefore, we believe we can ask the AIADMK to double the seat allocation,' the functionary said. When asked about the specific number of seats, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran declined to comment directly. 'We are working to strengthen 68,000 booths across the state. The number of seats and the candidates for those will be decided by the party's high command. However, I hope the BJP will secure more MLA seats in the Assembly during my tenure as state president, and that is my responsibility too,' Nagenthran said. He also noted the possibility of contesting seats where they have sitting MLAs, including Coimbatore South, Modakurichi, Nagercoil, and Tirunelveli. Confirming it, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, during a recent election campaign that he started from Coimbatore, praised the performance of the BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan (Coimbatore South). BJP functionaries said Palaniswami's statement was an indirect hint that Vanathi would contest from the constituency in the upcoming election. If confirmed, it will be the third time that Vanathi Srinivasan – national president of BJP Mahila Morcha – will be contesting from the Coimbatore South. 'I consider Edappadi Palaniswami's praise as recognition of my performance as an MLA,' said Vanathi, adding, she hopes that she did significant work in her constituency.

TN custodial death: BJP MLA sees DMK govt's gradual departure from ethical responsibilities
Salem: The custodial death of a youth in Sivaganga indicates the DMK govt's gradual departure from its ethical responsibilities, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan on Tuesday. Vanathi said such incidents were not new under the DMK govt. Vanathi was speaking at a model parliament event in Salem, which held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, in 1975. Model parliaments are being conducted nationwide by the BJP's women's and youth wings. Reflecting on the Emergency period, Vanathi remarked that it was the Congress party that undermined the Indian Constitution. "Congress claims that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi do not uphold the Constitution. If they fail to respond to these allegations, it will become evident that their claims hold merit," she said. The BJP MLA criticized the govt for continuously asserting that the Centre had enforced Hindi. She questioned, "Has the central govt ever instructed anyone to learn Hindi?" She said there was no basis for such claims. She accused the DMK of employing deceitful tactics in its campaign to incite public anger against the Centre . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo She criticised the DMK govt for blaming the central government for not funding projects and schemes in the state. "When the Centre raises inquiries, the DMK govt claims that they cannot respond but only desires the funds to flow in," she said. She refrained from commenting on a BJP-AIADMK coalition govt in Tamil Nadu, stating that such decisions would be made by the party's high command in New Delhi. "We must ensure that the DMK is ousted in the upcoming 2026 elections, and then we will determine our next steps," she said. Gucci prices shock Tamil Nadu influencer's parents on Thailand trip, their reaction wins hearts: ‘The last innocent generation'
Vanathi S, a travel content creator, is winning hearts on social media after she shared online a hilarious moment she had with her parents during a trip to Thailand, where she took her parents to a Gucci store. The viral video shows Vanathi's parents stumbling upon a Gucci store in what looks like a shopping mall in Thailand. Thinking it was just another regular showroom selling handbags, they walked in casually, only to be shocked by the exorbitant prices. In her video, Vanathi wrote, 'The first culture shock my Indian family experienced on their very first international trip.' As the video progresses, the family enters the luxury showroom and asks for the price of a small bag. When they were told it cost 72,000 Thai Baht (approximately Rs 1.8 lakh), they immediately turned around and walked out. '72,000 for one small bag? I could take 10 trips to Thailand for that,' Vanathi's mother said. As the frame shifts, her father said, 'For a second, I thought that was the price of the whole showroom.' Sharing the video, Vanathi wrote, 'This was literally me the first time I walked into Gucci. I've always believed that memories are worth more than things. Luxury is nice, but for me… nothing beats chasing sunsets in a new country, getting lost in a mountain village, or sharing a meal with strangers who become friends. I'd pick the thrill of a road trip, a spontaneous hike, or watching the stars from a remote campsite over designer bags or fancy dinners & dresses, any day.' Watch here: A post shared by Vanathi S | Travel 🌋 (@theuntoldtrails) The video resonated with several social media users, with one of them saying, 'The last innocent generation.'
