Dil Raju clears the air on cousin Shirish's controversial remarks for Ram Charan's Game Changer: 'He got carried away'

Ram Charan starrer Game Changer hit the big screens on January 10, 2025. In a recent interview, the movie's co-producer Shirish Reddy made a controversial comment against the RRR actor and now his cousin Dil Raju has provided a clarification. Dil Raju defends Shirish Reddy on comments against Ram Charan Following the comments made by Shirish Reddy, Dil Raju said, 'Ram Charan was very helpful to us. Though we suggested he take up another film, he stood by Game Changer and gave more time to the project. We're thankful to Charan, and to Chiranjeevi garu for supporting our second release during Sankranthi.' Underlining how he and his cousin share a good rapport with Charan, the Varisu producer added, 'It was Shirish's first time speaking to the media, and he got emotional about those financial circumstances. He also got carried away by a few manipulative questions from the interviewer. His choice of words wasn't right, but there was no wrong intent.' What did Shirish Reddy say about Ram Charan and Game Changer? For those unversed, Shirish Reddy in a recent interview openly admitted about facing financial strains after Game Changer's failure. Acknowledging the same, the producer commented how neither Ram Charan nor director Shankar contacted him afterwards. Talking about the film, Game Changer was a political action drama starring Ram Charan in the lead role. The movie narrates the tale of an honest IAS officer who takes on corrupt politicians to protect the system and society. With the RRR actor playing dual roles as father and son, the film directed by Shankar showcased an ensemble cast of performers like Kiara Advani, Anjali, SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Sunil, Jayaram, and more in key roles. Coming to Ram Charan's work front, the actor is currently shooting for the movie Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The sports action drama is slated to release on March 27, 2026, with Janhvi Kapoor playing the romantic lead. Apart from Charan and Janhvi, actors like Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu Sharma and Jagapathi Babu are also part of the film. Moving ahead, the actor will join hands with director Sukumar once again for the tentatively titled RC17. The movie will mark the actor and director's reunion after the success of the blockbuster Rangasthalam.

When Vijay ran away from home after father SA Chandrasekhar declined to launch him in films: ‘My idea was to go to…'

If everything goes according to his plan, this might be the last time we celebrate June 22 as the birthday of 'film star' Vijay. By this time next year, director H Vinoth's Jana Nayagan, Vijay's final film before his full-fledged entry into politics, will have been released and run its course. He will no longer be 'Thalapathy' Vijay, but simply the founding president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), unless his party strikes gold in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, expected to take place in April or May 2026. Either way, the good old days of watching a 'Thalapathy' film in theatres may soon be just a memory; unless, of course, he changes his mind. Having entered the industry in 1992 as a leading man in his father SA Chandrasekhar's Naalaiya Theerpu, following a handful of appearances as a child artiste, Vijay, who turns 51 this year, has gone on to become one of the biggest box-office draws in the country. With not a single underperformer since Chimbu Deven's Puli (2015) and even films that received mixed responses like Beast (2022), Varisu (2023) and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT, 2024) raking in good money, Vijay ranks among one of the biggest superstars in the country now. Hence, his decision to step away from films now has come as a shock to many and a heartbreak to his fans. Only in SCREEN | 'Thalapathy' Vijay: How the average kid in town became one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema Although it was his father who launched Joseph Vijay — his first appearance as a child was in Vetri (1984), and that movie too was helmed by Chandrasekhar — the actor has previously shared that his father was initially reluctant to introduce him as a leading man. Frustrated, Vijay even ran away from home, leaving behind a note asking his parents not to search for him. The situation, however, ended in a comical anticlimax of sorts. 'I was a bit weak in studies. Since I had to do something in life, I kept asking my father to introduce me in movies. But he said no, maintaining that it won't work out for me. This was also a struggle within a struggle. Where will I go leaving home? So, my idea was to go to Udhayam Theatre, watch a movie and come back. But just to give a build-up, I left behind a letter. My plan was to return in two hours. However, as I was watching the film, my father found out that I was at Udhayam Theatre. He came and took me back home,' Vijay shared during an appearance on Star Vijay's celebrity talk show Koffee with Anu once. Interestingly, Chandrasekhar has also recounted this story. In his version, however, Vijay left the house at 10 in the morning and didn't return for hours, and they found him only in the evening. The filmmaker also revealed that he had initially hoped his son would become a doctor, especially after the tragic loss of Vijay's younger sister, who died of blood cancer at the age of two. Vijay was just ten at the time. 'When he told me that he wanted to be an actor, I said no. One day, he left the house at ten in the morning and didn't come back even as the sun was setting. We found a note on the dining table that said that he was leaving us and that we shouldn't search for him. My wife and I searched everywhere and I eventually landed up at Udhayam theatre. The watchman recognised me and said, your son is inside watching a movie,' he told during a chat in 2018.

Jaat director Gopichand Malineni says Vijay left his project as he was ‘pressured' to pick Tamil director for last film

Telugu director Gopichand Malineni recently debuted in Bollywood with the Sunny Deol-starrer Jaat. But he revealed in a Telugu One interview that before that, he was supposed to do a Kollywood film with actor Vijay instead. He also claims that despite liking his script, Vijay was 'pressured' to pick a Tamil director for his final project. (Also Read: Vijay's security pulls out a gun as fan tries to get close to actor at airport; internet calls it 'scary'. Watch) Vijay will contest in the Tamil Nadu elections, and the H Vinoth-directed Jana Nayagan is touted to be his last film. Gopichand was asked if it's true that he approached Chiranjeevi for a film after Veera Simha Reddy's (2023) success and that it didn't pan out. The director instead revealed that he approached Vijay, stating, 'Immediately after Veera Simha Reddy, I wrote a story and narrated it to Vijay. He liked it so much that he approved it in one sitting.' However, Gopichand claims that because he had already done Varisu (2023) with a Telugu director, Vamshi Paidipally, he was 'pressured' to pick a Tamil filmmaker. 'He was ready to announce it. But because this would become his last film before entering politics, his people pressured him to opt for a Tamil director rather than a Telugu one. He had already done Varisu with a Telugu director, so they did not want him to work with a Telugu director again so soon.' He said that after Vijay backed out of the film, the director wanted to cast Ravi Teja for the role, but that hasn't panned out yet either. Vijay's upcoming film Jana Nayagan After the 2024 film The Greatest of All Time by Venkat Prabhu, all eyes were on Vijay's final project after he announced his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). His final film, Jana Nayagan, stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in the lead roles, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. It is slated for release on January 9, 2026.
