Pune: Around 3,000 govt employees staged a protest at the collector's office in Pune to list their demands and criticise some of the policies taken by the central and state govt.
The protest was in line with the nationwide strike against some of the policies, including privatisation and the proposed Special Public Safety Act.
"Employees from public sector banks, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), anganwadis, Asha workers, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) participated in the strike," Vasant Pawar, general secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), said.

Workers from industrial areas of Chakan, Bhosari and Ranjangaon participated in a protest march from Khandobacha Maal in Akurdi to Bhakti Shakti Chowk in Nigdi.
The unions, among other demands, sought to include all categories of workers — contract, daily-wage and unorganised — under comprehensive labour laws with equal rights. They asked for bringing gig and platform workers under the ambit of the labour law framework and providing them with necessary benefits.
The workers also criticised the privatisation of public sector enterprises that would reduce job security and push essential services into the private sector.

BSNL workers sought the strengthening of the company and the rollout of 4G and 5G networks.
"The public sector is at the core of our country's growth and development. It has now become the target for disinvestment. Even PSU banks and insurance companies are now being sought to be privatised. The stakeholders cannot afford to hand over these public savings to private entities," said CH Venkatachalam, general secretary of All India Banks' Employees Association (AIBEA).
Separately, worker unions of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd called for a statewide strike on Wednesday to protest against the privatisation of state utilities. The protest was held at the MSEDCL Rasta Peth office.
