VAUCLUSE, France — In a country where the cigarette holds an iconic status on par with the croissant or glass of red wine, a ban from Sunday on smoking in all parks, beaches and bus stops has ignited a fiery debate, pitting laissez-faire libertines against those worried by the serious health implications of France's stubbornly high smoking rates.

Precious cargo! Madeline Holtznagel cradles newborn baby Jaegar in a woolen jumper as she exits seaplane with billionaire Justin Hemmes
Madeline Holtznagel looked every inch the doting new mum this week when she was spotted with her precious new bub in Sydney. The model, 28, and her billionaire beau Justin Hemmes, 52, welcomed their first child, Jaegar Justin on June 1. Madeline was positively glowing while carrying her precious cargo, as the new family arrived via seaplane at Justin's $100million Vaucluse mansion. The bubbly blonde could barely keep the smile from her face as she walked with Jaeger, who was swaddled in a brown sweater. Going casual for the flight, Madeline wore a plain light grey hooded sweatshirt and a pair of matching pants. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Madeline rolled the legs of her track pants to the knees to keep them dry as she waded to shore. Her trim and toned pins were on full display, and she finished off her look with a pair of plain white slides. Wearing her blonde locks back in a ponytail, Madeline accessorised with a pair of black Chanel sunglasses. She also carried a large black leather bag over her arm, no doubt containing all of Jaeger's necessary accessories. Justin was also spotted in tow, with an armful of jackets and shoes as he disembarked the seaplane. Also cutting a very casual figure, Justin wore a plain white T-shirt and a pair of dark grey track pants. While baby Jaeger was kept under wraps during the outing, Madeline snuggled her son close to her chest as she strolled along the beach with a pal. It comes after Madeline announced Jaeger's arrival in a sweet Instagram post last week. Madeline was positively glowing as she was seen carrying her precious cargo as the new family arrived, via seaplane at Justin's $100million Vaucluse mansion The new mum could barely keep the smile from her face as she walked with Jaeger, who was swaddled in what appeared to be a brown sweater 'Jaeger Justin Hemmes ❤️ 1.06.25,' she captioned the post. This is the model's first child with the billionaire Merivale owner. He shares two daughters - Alexa, nine, and Saachi, seven - with his ex-partner Kate Fowler. The sweet photo dump included an array of snaps showing the couple's newborn baby wrapped up in a blanket. One picture showed the new mum proudly holding her first child as she donned a matching pink pyjamas set. She was positively glowing as she beamed at the camera while her precious newborn wore a smile on his face. Another picture showed Justin and Madeline looking windswept and content as they enjoyed a beach walk with their little one. One adorable snap showed Justin leaning down to kiss baby Jaeger, who was tucked into his jumper to keep warm during the windy outing. Friends and family flooded the comments section with well wishes for the couple and their new bundle of joy. 'I love him,' Madeline's sister Simone Holtznagel simply wrote. Madeline recently announced the sex of their baby in an interview with Stellar magazine, and said she was thrilled because she wanted a 'new journey' with Justin. 'I always thought I was going to have a boy. I knew I was going to be a boy mum,' she said. 'Justin has two beautiful little girls, so having a boy, it's like a whole new journey together. '[The baby] is going to be his little best mate.' She said she previously kept details of her pregnancy private, but was ready to share her journey. 'I keep a lot of my life private and I don't share a lot online anyway, so [being pregnant] wasn't really something that I was going to share online,' she said. In November, an insider confirmed the exciting news of Madeline's pregnancy to Daily Mail Australia. They revealed a friend of Justin's recently moved out of his Vaucluse mansion to make room for their growing family. The business mogul, who has a net worth of $1.39billion, began dating Madeline in 2019 when she was 22 and he was 47, after his split from Fowler in 2018. Madeline is the younger sister of fellow Aussie model Simone Holtznagel, who welcomed her first child, a daughter called Gia, in March 2024 with her now-ex-boyfriend Jono Castano.

Bride, 27, dead and child among the injured after group gunned down at wedding party in France
A 27-year-old bride was shot dead at her own wedding by a rampaging gang of gunmen in a horror attack - where one other also died and a child was injured. The best day of the newlyweds lives came to a tragic halt when the four masked men shot at the bride and groom as they were leaving the celebrations at around 4.30am today. The men were armed with 'several types of weapons', said Avignon public prosecutor Florence Galtier. The bride and groom, 25, were reportedly leaving their car when they were ambushed by the attackers, who arrived in a golf cart. In a desperate attempt to escape the attack, the groom reversed in his car and one of the gunmen was hit 'in return' and killed. A 13-year-old was in the couple's car and received serious injuries alongside the husband. The husband's sister was also hurt as police rushed to the Vaucluse venue, in Goult, in the south of France. Dozens of police and a helicopters have been mobilised to track down the three remaining gunmen who fled the scene. The terrifying incident might be linked to possible drug-related score-settling, according to a source close to the investigation. It is said a large-scale operation involving around 100 police has been launched to find those responsible for the shooting, which plunged the tiny picturesque village of Goult into shock. Local officials believe the attack was planned, and potentially gang-related, according to Le Figaro. The groom had a long history of criminal offences and his sister also had a violent offence on her record, said the French newspaper. The authorities have opened an investigation into murder and attempted murder by an organised gang. Goult Mayor Didier Perello said he was 'angry' and 'outraged' by the attack, adding he would not rule out any possible explanations. 'We're close to towns, I won't name them, where unfortunately, we've already seen this kind of thing before. 'The village hall had been rented for a wedding by people who don't live in the commune.' Guillaume Molinas, 50, said he feared that the tragedy would 'give the village a bad name.' 'The last major incident in the village was 125 years ago,' said the owner of a restaurant.

2025 Sydney house price record broken twice in a week
The 2025 Sydney house price record has been broken twice in a week, with two sales totalling more than $110m. First came news yesterday via sources that the Point Piper mansion of Retail Apparel Group co-founder Stephen Liebowitz and his wife, Pam had sold for $55m, via Ray White Double Bay's Adam Reichman and Elliott Placks in conjunction with Michael Pallier of Sotheby's. The sale occurred last week but was being kept under wraps. And then, last night, an Instagram post from Ray White Double Bay's Riki Tawhara confirmed the sale of 38 Vaucluse Rd, Vaucluse, owned by 98-year-old philanthropist Isaac Wakil, that's sold 'above our guide of $55m'. MORE: Billionaire chicken heiresses record-breaking sale MORE Lowe heirs Point Piper mansion sells Whereas the first sale equalled the previous 2025 record $55m house price sale in February, of 12 Dumaresq Rd, Rose Bay, this latest deal exceeds that. The big sales must be exciting news for Ray White Double Bay principal, Elliott Placks, who had a hand in both deals, as he prepares to move into his new five-storey Double Bay HQ next month. Placks was tight-lipped about the buyers of both properties, citing NDAs, though it's known he had multiple buyers on both which helped create urgency. Still, the vendors had to accept considerable discounts on their previous price guides, with the Liebowitzs original guide of February, 2024, $65m. And although the most recent guide for the Vaucluse property may have been $55m, when it hit the market last month it was reported at 'around $70m'. The Dumaresq Rd, Rose Bay property that sold in February, owned by recycled shopping bag tycoon Frank Qiang Gengh and his wife Juanjuan Zhao, took a $20m price cut. Dyson Austen prestige property valuer Simon Feilich had a simple explanation for the recent rush of sales as the end of financial year approaches. 'The main driver is the low Aussie dollar and lower interest rates driving increased asset prices.' Isaac Wakil had owned the Vaucluse Rd 1400sqm property, with its house set for the demolition ball but with panoramic Sydney Harbour views, for 65 years. Isaac and his late wife Susan were both immigrants from Romania and Iraq and had no children. They owned a range of commercial properties across Sydney, including the Terminus Hotel in Pyrmont and the landmark Griffiths Tea building in Surry Hills.
