Advanced facility launched to test drugs & food locally
Patna: The quality of medicines and food products can now be tested within Bihar itself, health minister Mangal Pandey said on Thursday after inaugurating a newly built equipment section at the Bihar Joint Food and Drug Control Laboratory at Agamkuan in Patna. The state-of-the-art facility, developed at a cost of Rs 14 crore, was inaugurated jointly with assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav. Until now, samples had to be sent to laboratories outside the state, often taking several months for reports to be returned. The installation of 28 types of modern testing equipment will reduce that time and strengthen Bihar's capacity to monitor drug and food safety. "Now Bihar will not have to depend on other states for this test. With this new laboratory, the tests will not only be done immediately, but there will also be speed in identifying wrong and fake medicines and removing them from the market," said Pandey. He added that a food testing laboratory had been established on the same campus three months ago at a cost of Rs 16 crore. "Its DPR has been prepared. The G+5 building will have a meeting room, conference hall, record room, sample collection room, faculty room, library, kitchen along with other facilities," he said. Highlighting the state's achievements in health coverage, Pandey said Bihar ranks third in the country for issuing Ayushman cards with 4 crore cards made — 3.10 crore of which were issued in the last 1.3 years. He also said that 3 lakh Vaya Vandana cards have been created. Assembly Speaker Yadav said the newly equipped section would ensure faster, more accurate and transparent testing of medicines. "This section equipped with newly installed modern machines and equipment will make the process of quality testing of medicines more fast, accurate and transparent. This will ensure the safety of medicines used in the state," he said. Patna mayor Sita Sahu, development commissioner-cum-additional chief secretary (health) Pratyaya Amrit, BMSICL managing director Nilesh Ramchandra Devre and CEO of the Bihar Health Safety Committee Shashank Shekhar Sinha were also present at the event.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said her dispensation was all about honest governance, public welfare, and structural reforms, as she accused the previous government of civic neglect, on Saturday, marking 100 days of her coming to power. Speaking at a public programme at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ms Gupta emphasised that her administration had laid focus on policy formulation, rather than making "false promises." "My government spent 100 days in making policies and working for the betterment of Delhi," she said, adding, "We can't make false promises. We are working honestly to solve issues like the cleaning of the Yamuna and removal of garbage dumps." Ms Gupta also revealed her plan to introduce an ordinance to regulate the private school fees. "Education should be accessible and fair. We are committed to ensuring that no parent is burdened unfairly," she said. The Chief Minister dubbed as successful her government's Vaya Vandana scheme, which offers citizens aged 70 and above health insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. "Around 1.5 lakh registrations have already been completed," she said. The BJP leader also trained her guns at the previous Aam Aadmi Party-led government, and said, "Thousands joined the movement hoping for change, but the people who claimed to have no hunger for power became consumed by it. The public's trust was broken." "How can the national capital be the most polluted when cleaning the Yamuna was never even considered seriously?" she said. This is Bharatiya Janata Party's first stint in the state after 27 years. In the February Assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, ending a decade of AAP's governance.

100 days in, health minister says Delhi's health infra received robust push
Three months into its term, the BJP government in Delhi has begun addressing longstanding gaps in the Capital's healthcare system, health minister Dr Pankaj Singh said on Friday — rolling out insurance schemes, pushing diagnostic upgrades, and cracking down on hospitals flouting fire safety norms. Speaking to HIndustan Times on Friday, Singh said over 300,000 Ayushman Bharat insurance cards have been issued so far, with 601 patients already admitted for treatment under the scheme. Further expanding on the data, Singh said more than 316,000 Ayushman Bharat health insurance cards have been issued since April — 175,060 under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) for residents under 70, and 141,174 under the Vaya Vandana Yojana for senior citizens aged above 70. PM-JAY was launched in Delhi on April 5, followed by the rollout of the Vaya Vandana scheme on April 28. The latter provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh annually per family for eligible citizens above the age of 70. The government has also begun automatic card issuance for all beneficiaries in this category. So far, Singh said, 601 patients have received treatment under PM-JAY. Crackdown on fire safety violations in hospitals Following a Hindustan Times report highlighting lapses in fire safety clearances at three major government hospitals — Lok Nayak, Ambedkar Nagar and Bhagwan Mahavir — Singh acknowledged the issue and attributed the gaps to administrative neglect by previous governments. 'Lok Nayak is now close to receiving its no objection certificate from the fire department after implementing the necessary changes. Ambedkar Nagar is also being brought up to code,' he said. He added that 10 private hospitals have been denied NOCs due to non-compliance and given 45 days to rectify violations. 'Failure to comply will result in cancellation of their licenses,' he said. New tenders to ease medicine shortage On reports of shortages of essential drugs in government hospitals, Singh said inefficiency by previous vendors led to supply disruptions. 'We've cancelled their contracts and initiated a new tendering process. Going forward, half the medicines will be procured centrally, and the rest sourced locally to streamline delivery.' Diagnostic upgrades across 36 hospitals To reduce dependency on private centres for costly diagnostics, the government plans to install MRI and CT scan machines across all 36 government hospitals under a public-private partnership model. Singh said the services will be capped at ₹2,500 per scan, with rollout details being finalised. Inquiry into Delhi Medical Council On the proposed dissolution of the Delhi Medical Council amid allegations of irregularities, Singh said the matter is under review. 'A report has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor. Meanwhile, Director General of Health Services Dr Rati Makkar will oversee council operations.' Addressing concerns over rising respiratory infections, Singh said there was no COVID outbreak in the city. 'It's a seasonal viral wave. The infections are mild and self-limiting — there is no cause for panic.' .'
