Pharma distributor in Karimnagar arrested in counterfeit anti-epileptic drug case, second in a week

The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Friday, July 11 arrested R. Venu Gopal, Managing Partner and Competent Person of Venu Medical Agencies in Karimnagar, for selling counterfeit anti-epileptic tablets falsely labelled as a product of a leading pharmaceutical company. This is the second arrest by the DCA in a week in connection with the distribution of counterfeit Levipil 500 tablets (Levetiracetam 500 mg), a drug prescribed to treat epilepsy. Earlier this week, Manish Kumar, Partner-cum-Competent Person of Arvind Pharma Distributors in Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, was arrested for a similar offence. The latest arrest follows a raid conducted on July 5 at Venu Medical Agencies, located in Sai Nagar, Doctors Street, Karimnagar, where officials seized a consignment of counterfeit Levipil 500 tablets. The packaging falsely claimed the drug was manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Limited. A batch comparison conducted by Sun Pharma confirmed that the seized tablets were counterfeit. Following this, Venu Gopal was arrested and produced before the Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Karimnagar, which remanded him to judicial custody until July 23. He is currently lodged at the District Prison in Karimnagar.

State ST panel seeks report on tribal kids' school access woes

1 2 3 Visakhapatnam: Days after TOI highlighted the ordeal of tribal children from Solubongu hamlet in Ananthagiri mandal — who either walk several kilometres or cross the Raiwada dam by boat to attend school — the State Scheduled Tribes Commission has intervened, directing ASR district officials to submit a detailed report. When the schools reopened on June 12, tribal children from Solubongu travelled by boat to the school located in Tamarrabba, Devarapalli mandal. The ASR district collector has directed Venu Gopal, executive engineer of the tribal welfare department, to prepare a proposal for a 2-kilometre road from Veerabhadrapeta to Solubongu village via Boddugaruvu and Tamarrabba. Elders from the hamlet, Nandula Rajarao and R Rajarao, thanked to ST commission chairman DVG Sankara Rao for taking up the issue. They said students from the remote area attend the MPP School in Tamarrabba travelling via the Raiwada dam. "When there is heavy rainfall, the students are forced to stay at home, as there is no safe way for them to attend school. When the water level in Raiwada dam recedes, they travel to school by boat. But when the water is high, they hike four kilometres around the hill. We demand that a special school be established in our village," they said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo CPM leader K Govinda Rao added that 21 more tribal children from villages such as Kadarevu and Goppala Palem walk 12 kilometres daily, crossing steep hills, to reach Bodugaruvu for their schooling. "In July 2024, villagers held a protest demanding a school, after which the Ananthagiri mandal education officer visited and promised to establish an alternative school. A proposal was submitted to the district collector and the district education officer of ASR district to set up a non-residential special training (NRST) school, but the government did not approve it," he said. Chittoor prepares for intensified diarrhea control drive

The Medical and Health Department on Friday launched two focused drives to tackle diarrhea and mosquito-borne diseases across the district. Addressing the medical and paramedical staff here on Friday (June 13), District Medical and Health Officer Dr. D.T. Sudharani directed the medical officers to review preparations for the 'Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF)' campaign and submit a report in a couple of days. She said that the primary goal of the IDCF is to reduce child mortality among children below five years. The ANMs, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi staff were instructed to conduct door-to-door surveys and sensitise families about diarrhea prevention from June 16 to July 31. 'Setting up of ORS corners in all primary health centres, wellness centres, and Anganwadi centres is mandatory. Parents are advised to get their children vaccinated for rotavirus. Children with any symptoms will be treated with ORS and zinc tablets, and will be referred to higher institutions if necessary,' the DMHO said. Meanwhile, District Malaria Officer Venu Gopal on Friday conducted inspections of the 'Friday Dry Day' activities at the Urban Health Centre at Mapakshi village of Gudipala mandal near Chittoor and also visited LB Puram and CG Palle villages. He said that the inspections were part of the ongoing Malaria Prevention Month and while interacting with the residents, he urged them to observe Dry Day every Friday as it is important to check mosquito breeding and prevent diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis. Later, the official visited the Anganwadi centre at Mapakshi and stressed on the need for mesh doors and maintenance of clean surroundings to protect children from mosquito bites.

Char Dham yatra: 3 pilgrims from different states die of heart attack

Dehradun: Three pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu died of heart attacks on different routes of the Char Dham yatra on Thursday, said officials. With these, the total number of pilgrim deaths during this year's yatra has crossed 89, as per the state emergency operation centre. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The deceased have been identified as Ram Kumar, 62, from Uttar Pradesh, Bato Bai Yadav, 65, from Madhya Pradesh, and Venu Gopal, 70, from Tamil Nadu. Kumar was found unconscious near Bheembali on the Kedarnath trek route and was taken to a nearby health centre, where doctors declared him dead. Yadav, who was on the yatra with her family, died near Janki Chatti on the Yamunotri route while Venu Gopal died in the Gangotri area. Of those who have died on the yatra route during this year's pilgrimage, most succumbed to health issues, primarily cardiac-related, according to govt data. The four shrines are located at elevations exceeding 10,000ft in the Garhwal Himalayas, making the pilgrimage particularly challenging for individuals with underlying health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or ailments related to the heart, kidney, liver and respiratory system. The high altitude results in lower oxygen levels and extreme cold, often dipping below freezing, which poses serious risks for those with comorbidities. Pilgrims found with such conditions during health screenings are counselled about the associated risks. Authorities have maintained that a robust health infrastructure is in place along the yatra route, including 69 medical officers, 121 staff nurses, 26 pharmacists, 309 oxygen-equipped beds, six ICU beds, 13 departmental ambulances, one blood bank, and two blood storage units. The annual yatra began with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines on April 30, followed by the ceremonial reopening of the Kedarnath and Badrinath temples on May 2 and May 4, respectively.
