UPDATE: Coroner ID's Danville teen killed in Saturday shooting
Update on June 23 DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Vermilion County Coroner's Office has released the name of the teenager who was killed in a shooting at Winter Park in Danville on Saturday. In a news release, the Coroner's Office said the teen is Aniyah J. Davis of Danville. The Coroner's Office also clarified that she was 18 years old, not 19 as Danville Police previously reported. Woman hit by car while walking dog in Mahomet Township, Sheriff says Davis' family has been notified, and an autopsy was performed Monday morning. The results of that autopsy are still pending. The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing. DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A 19-year-old died and two juveniles were injured after a shooting in Danville over the weekend. Danville police officers responded to Winter Park around 10 p.m. on Saturday after several 911 calls reporting gunshots. When officers arrived, they found three people had been shot. Vermilion Co. cooling centers open this season A 19-year-old teenager was brought to a local hospital where she later died. A juvenile victim was brought to a hospital in Urbana. Police said as of Sunday morning she was listed in serious condition. Another juvenile victim was brought to a Danville hospital and was later released. After investigating, officers said they believe shots were fired from at least two different locations. No suspects have been identified as of Sunday morning. LeStan Hoskins tries to combat violence and conflict through his organization, It Takes a Village Mentorship. As a father and community leader, he said Saturday's tragedy makes him question where he and his children can feel safe in the city. 'You go to a park and you have your children, I don't think you should have to duck or you should be afraid to go to a park,' Hoskins said. 'I just think it's so important we rally together as a community and say, 'Hey this is enough.' We [have] to be able to go places in our community and not have fear.' Man arrested on gun charges overnight in Danville
DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Danville man is under arrest after police said he threatened a woman with a gun and fired a shot early Tuesday morning. Sergeant Andrew Brooks said in a news release that officers were dispatched to the intersection of Main Street and Virginia Street around 2 a.m. for a report of an armed male. When they arrived, witnesses said the man had retreated into a nearby home. Officers surrounded the home and ordered the man to exit, officials said. He eventually did and was identified as 34-year-old Joshua Martinez of Danville. 'Fine until it wasn't': Family of Aniyah Davis recount final moments A search of the home and garage located three guns. Due to the evidence and information gathered by officers, Martinez was placed under arrest and was booked into the Vermilion County Jail on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Court records do not indicate he has been formally charged yet. 4-year-old suffers injuries after being struck by vehicle
A 4-year-old was struck by a driver who left the scene of the incident Tuesday, June 10, in the 1600 block of Edgewood Drive. The victim was taken to a local hospital by family members before police arrived and was listed as stable at that time, but was transferred to a hospital in Urbana. DPD Deputy Chief Terry McCord said a witness described a red SUV driving recklessly by 20-year-old Tyran A. Coe of Danville. The vehicle struck the juvenile and then left the scene of the crash. The vehicle was located unoccupied about two blocks from the scene of the incident. At around 10:50 p.m., Coe arrived at the Public Safety Building and turned himself in to the Danville Police Department. He was booked at the Vermilion County Jail on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Aggravated Reckless Driving. The Danville Police Department urges anyone with information about this incident to call 217-431-2250. Catlin Tilton Road closed due to accident, State Police investigating
VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police are on scene investigating an accident that has caused Catlin Tilton Road to close. Danville man gets 10 years for armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon There is currently a detour down 1330 East for drivers coming from Catlin, or on 1550 North for those coming from Tilton as a result of the accident.
