MeetIng the Carmelite Sisters
St Teresa's Secondary School students and young ladies aged between 15 to 37 years were very honoured and blessed to be able to meet the Sisters at the Carmelite Monastery visitors' parlour from 3.30pm – 5.00 pm, and pray the Vespers from 5.00 – 5.30 pm at the Carmelite Chapel recently. Jul 18, 2025 KUCHING: St Teresa's Secondary School students and young ladies aged between 15 to 37 years were very honoured and blessed to be able to meet the Sisters at the Carmelite Monastery visitors' parlour from 3.30pm – 5.00 pm, and pray the Vespers from 5.00 – 5.30 pm at the Carmelite Chapel recently. The girls were enlightened about the life of the Carmelite Sisters in the monastery. Throughout the meet session, Sr Dominica Chai and Sr Karen Emmanuel of Jesus on the Cross shared how they were called to be Carmelite Sisters. Through the Q & A, students learnt that Carmelite sisters dedicate their lives to a contemplative life focused on prayer, spiritual reading, and manual labor, living in community and following vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. They spend significant time in silent prayer and meditation, engaging in the Liturgy of the Hours and daily Mass. The Carmelite nuns withdraw completely from the world and dedicate themselves entirely to a life of prayer and penance. But their sacrifices and their prayers reach out to the world they have left behind. They have not fled the world because they did not enjoy the life they had there. They love the world – they love life – and they have found it in all its richness and beauty…by giving themselves to God. According to Sr Karen, her greatest joy and peace is to spend personal time praying and having personal relationship with the Lord. A question was also asked regarding the length of formation to become Carmelite Sister, to which Sr Karen explained that it ran from 9-12 years.• Aspirancy: 1-2 years • Postulancy: 1-2 years • Novitiate: 2 years Temporary professed nun (with temporary vows) – 5 years or more until a minimum of 9 years of formation is completed. Solemn professed nun (with lifelong vows) – lifelong formation. The earliest stage is a time to get to know the candidate and for the candidate to be exposed to some experience of stay-in with the community inside the monastery. Interested candidates usually meet a few times with Mother Prioress or the nun who is appointed for formation, and eventually meet the whole community 2-3 times before applying for stay-in. Candidates are to write a letter to apply for stay-in. Then wait for approval. Duration of stay-in depends on the candidate's choice, but generally, a longer stay-in period is recommended to better experience the Carmelite life (maximum length of stay-in period is three months). For enquiries, candidates may come to the Turn at the monastery. The teachers and students would like to take this opportunity to thank the Carmelite Sisters for their warmth and kindness in sharing their vocation. We pray more young ladies would respond to God's calling and seek divine guidance and inspiration to answer God's call to a life dedicated to serving the Church. We pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance in discerning and following one's true vocation and for the strength and perseverance to live faithfully within that vocation. --Today's Catholic

Where is Camp Mystic, the Christian girls camp hit by flooding in Texas?
Severe flooding hit Camp Mystic, a 99-year-old private nondenominational Christian camp for girls in the Texas Hill Country. More than 750 girls were at the camp, which is located along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, where rain of up to 12 inches an hour fell, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a press conference Friday afternoon. Flash flooding occurred as river waters rose 29 feet rapidly near the camp, officials said. At the time, about 20 girls were missing, Patrick said. Parents and relatives have been posting on social media as they have learned about the deaths of young family members who had been attending the camp. At least three girls have died, based on reports from family members. Live updates: Texas flooding death toll rises to 27; children among the dead Camp Mystic for Girls was founded in 1926 by Edward "Doc" Stewart, who was the football and men's basketball coach at the University of Texas, according to an Internet Archive's capture of the camp's website (much of the site was overwhelmed with traffic on Saturday). The camp has been in operation since then. However, during World War II it served as a "rehabilitation and recovery camp for army air corps veterans," according to the site. "Campers and counselors join together to sing songs, listen to scripture, discover ways to grow spiritually, and learn to apply these lessons to their daily life at camp and back home," according to the site. Religious activities include: Bible studies, Saturday evening Catholic Mass, Sunday morning devotionals along the river, Sunday evening Vespers services, and, once during each two-week or four-week term, a sunrise communion service. Other activities include cooking, dance, basketball, horseback riding, lacrosse, swimming, soccer and yoga. Camp Mystic for Girls, is in Texas, about six miles south of Hunt, Texas, in Kerr County. That's within Texas Hill Country, about 80 miles northwest of San Antonio. The original camp and a second camp, opened in 2020 near Cypress Lake, is bisected by Cypress Creek. YouTube videos show the camp facilities nestled within the tree-filled landscape at the two camps, one along the Guadalupe River and the newer camp near Cypress Lake. Nine principles for nine new bishops
On 1 June 2025, the Feast of the Entry of the Holy Family into Egypt, Pope Tawadros completed the consecration of eight new bishops, and installed one on Coptic dioceses and monasteries in need of pastoral care, some because their previous bishops passed away. Three dioceses in place of one The consecration ceremony began during incense Vespers service on Saturday 31 May, and was complete during Mass on Sunday 1 June—the Mass celebrating the Holy Family Feast—at St Mark's Cathedral in Abassiya, Cairo. The Pope announced that the Diocese of Beheira, Matrouh, and the Five Western Cities (Pentapolis), whose previous Metropolitan Anba Pachomius passed away on 30 March 2025 following 54 years of service, would be divided into three separate dioceses: The Diocese of Beheira and its affiliated regions, the Diocese of Burg al-Arab and Amriya, and the Diocese of Matrouh and the the Five Western Cities. During his lifetime, Metropolitan Pachomius had founded and headed the Monastery of Saint Macarious the Alexandrite in Gabal (Mount) al-Qalali in Beheira; the Pope installed a new Abbot there. Calling them by name The consecration rite started with a procession of the candidates for episcopacy marching among the congregation, for the public to become familiar with them. The episcopal vow was then read, following which Pope Tawadros completed the installation of Anba Ilarion as Bishop of Beheira and its affiliated regions. The Pope said of Anba Ilarion: 'He has been a general bishop for ten years, serving in Cairo and Alexandria. He is well known for his ecclesiastical and spiritual leadership.' The Pope and the attending metropolitans and bishops then blessed the episcopal vestments of the new bishops in the name of the Holy Trinity, and he formally announced the names and titles of the eight new bishops: Fr Ghabrial al-Muharraqi was named Anba Pachomius, Bishop and Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Macarius the Alexandrite in Gabal al-Qalali. Fr Andrawes al-Suriani became Anba Karass, Bishop of Matrouh and the Five Western Cities. Fr Theophan Ava Mina was called Anba Mina, Bishop of the Diocese of Burg al-Arab and Amriya. Fr Danial El-Georgy became Anba Boqtor, Bishop of the Diocese of Deir Muwwas and Dalga in Minya, succeeding Anba Aghapius who passed away in February 2025. Fr Dioscorus al-Antouny was called Bishop Dioscorus of Southern Germany and Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Anthony in Kröffelbach, in place of Bishop Mishael who passed away in August 2023. Fr Ologious al-Baramosi became Bishop-General for the Churches in Ain Shams, Matariyya, and Helmiyet al-Zeitoun in Cairo, under the name Bishop Ologius. Fr Yakobos Anba Bishoy was made Bishop-General for the Churches in Hadayeq al-Qubba, al-Wayli, Abassiya, and Manshiyet al-Sadr, under the name Bishop Athanasius. Fr Ignatius al- Suriani was made Assistant Bishop to Metropolitan Sharobeem of the Diocese of Qena, under the name of Bishop Ignatius. Nominated and examined Participating in the prayers were 102 metropolitans and bishops, the General Deputies of the Patriarchates in Cairo and Alexandria, and a number of monks from the monasteries of Saint Anthony in Kröffelbach and Saint Macarius the Alexandrite in Gabal al-Qalali, as well as members of the clergy and congregation from the various dioceses and monasteries receiving the new bishops. Pope Tawadros said: 'This is indeed a joyful day… Recently, we lost the blessed bishops: Metropolitan Pachomius, Bishop Aghapius, and Bishop Mishael. In order to find candidates to fill their places, we held meetings and consultations with clergy councils and asked the abbots of monasteries to nominate two monks from each monastery. With prayer, we received several nominations. 'The Secretariat of the Holy Synod interviewed the nominees and conducted spiritual, ecclesiastical, psychological, and social assessments. After consensus was reached on specific names, I met with them, we talked and discussed the regions most suitable for them to serve in according to their abilities. 'We then sent the draft list to the Holy Synod members to share their feedback within three days. The final official list was announced two weeks ago. After that, the nominees attended a five-day course in Church management conducted by the team from the Coptic Institute for Church Administration and Development (COPTICAD)'. Extension to the Apostles The following day, Sunday 1 June the Feast of the Entry of the Holy Family into Egypt, the consecration and installation rite was completed during Mass, with participation of 110 metropolitans and bishops. Once the Praxis was read, the procession of the eight new bishops entered the cathedral to the deacon choir's joyous chant 'Ti Galeeli Aa' of the Holy Family Feast. The congregation cheered and ululated in joy. Pope Tawadros laid his hands on the new bishops in a rite signifying the transfer of spiritual authority and the calling of the Holy Spirit. He explained that episcopal ordination takes place following the reading of the day's chapter from the Praxis, the book that cites the lives of the saints and martyrs, in confirmation that the work of new bishops is an extension of that of the apostles who Jesus sent to preach the word; the ordination of priests, on the other hand, takes place following the Prayer of Reconciliation, given that they primarily act as men of prayer and intercession for the congregation. The Pope then called each of the new bishops by his episcopal name three times, blessing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, while the metropolitans and bishops laid their hands on them. Nine principles In the Mass sermon, the Pope chose to speak of nine principles the new bishops should follow, and not only them but all bishops, priests, monks and the laity. First, he said, is that Christ is the owner and leader of the Church; 'we are compliant tools in His hands. 'Second: the bishop is ordained for the people; he must be perpetually present among them. 'Third: Humbleness is the protector of the gift of grace you received. The episcopacy is the crown jewel of clerical work. But in the Church, we do not believe in upward elevation, the uppermost position is when we bow down and wash feet. Only then will you feel how small you are before God's abundant gifts that work through your humbleness. 'Fourth: Never ignore your spiritual life, because if you lose yourself you lose everything. Never forget that you are first and foremost a monk [who had given up the world for the love of Christ. Don't let your new responsibilities drag you away from God. 'Fifth: Fill your congregation with spiritual, ecclesiastical, social and mental nourishment. Our people call us Abouna, literally Father; they are the reason this Church has flourished throughout centuries, they expect of us to help them to be full. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for Christ, for they shall be filled. 'Sixth: Walk away from the love of money. It is a deadly sin, 'No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. 'You cannot serve both God and money'(Matt 6: 24). Money is only a means of service, and God sends it to His people. 'Seventh: Do not talk of wizardry, dreams, devil's magic, or suchlike. Not in your sermons, nor in reply to questions. 'Eighth: Know that God does everything in its perfect timing. Don't be impatient, it will only make you weary. 'Ninth: 'Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.' (James 1: 27). Let your door be always open to the needy, and guard yourself from the evils in this world.' Receiving the staff Once Mass was over, the new bishops marched in a procession in the church to the Resurrection hymn 'Christos Anesti' and back to Pope Tawadros to be handed by him the staff of the episcopacy. I can't help but think The Young and the Restless' Kyle and Claire are about to experience some infidelity
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. As if it weren't enough that The Young and the Restless' Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Claire (Hayley Erin) were having to contend with Victor's (Eric Braeden) interference and Summer (Allison Lanier) looming around offscreen, I can't help but think the happy couple has some infidelity in their near future. If you've been keeping up with the episodes, you're probably thinking I'm referring to Kyle and Audra (Zuleyka Silver). Thanks to Victor's enticing offer, Audra has made it her mission to destroy #Kylaire, and at Victor's suggestion, it seems as if Audra is willing to achieve that mission by enticing him a bit, using their past chemistry as bait. While I was initially side-eyeing the prospect of Audra using her powers of seduction, that changed when Holden (Nathan Owens) astutely pointed out that it appears Audra may still have lingering feelings for Kyle. Sure, she's been livid with him for getting her fired from Glissade and she thinks of him as an entitled brat, but their banter isn't completely of the 'I hate you' variety. Thinking about this, their vibe actually reminds me of Niles (Daniel Davis) and C.C. (Lauren Lane) on The Nanny or Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Kyle and Audra straddle the line of wanting to metaphorically strangle each other, but perhaps they secretly see the banter as foreplay. Now I recently predicted that Audra and Kyle would find themselves having drinks soon, and in a moment of drunkenness, they would hook up. But perhaps I'm wrong. In fact, I'm starting to think Claire may actually find herself hooking up with Holden. I can imagine a scenario in which Claire spots Kyle and Audra in a compromising position and assumes the worst, believing they hit the sheets. Then, a distraught Claire goes to the Athletic Club, where she runs into Holden, and he offers her a listening ear and a few Vespers. The two have had nothing but friendly interactions so far, but who's to say a heartbroken Claire won't decide to have some fun with the handsome newcomer? To add, if Claire tells Holden that something happened between Kyle and Audra, Holden may find himself a little heartbroken. He's not so secretly been pining away for Ms. Charles, so he might find comfort in Claire as much as she'd find comfort in him. Not for nothing, I like the idea of a Kyle and Claire pairing. To be clear, this is all speculation from my part. But the wheels of this #Kylaire train seem primed to fall off soon. New episodes of The Young and the Restless air weekdays on CBS. Episodes become available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.
