Rescue Dog Struggling To Adjust to New Home Breaks Hearts

In a viral TikTok video, a formerly neglected pup struggles to adjust to his new loving home, and internet users can't cope with the heartbreaking footage. The post shared in June under the username @barkandmeoww, shows the 3-year-old pup sitting by the door, looking confused as he is not used to be inside with people giving him love. In a previous post, his owner said that, at his old house, Gizmo was left alone outside for most of his day, and so now he doesn't know what to do indoors. "Poor Gizmo … He is still adjusting to his new home. Sometimes I find him just sitting here," reads layover text in the clip. While dogs do need time outdoors, especially during their daily walks, leaving them out more than necessary can be detrimental to their health. Vetster says that outdoors dogs are exposed to elements, diseases, pests, and lots of other hazards that can potentially be very dangerous. First of all, when coming into contact with wildlife, such dogs can catch diseases such as leptospirosis and rabies. They can also become infested with fleas, ticks, and tapeworm outside. Extreme temperatures can cause hypothermia and frostbite, paw burns and heat stroke. In the summer, outdoors dogs also run the risk of dehydration. One user, Chan Chan, commented: "He'll adjust. I recall when I got my first dog Flash at four-years-old. He sat just like this for a few days. He finally started walking around the house. He was my best friend for 15 years. I miss him so much. Please give your baby time to adjust. He's cute." posted: "Engagement and enrichment—take him on a tour everyday of the house and the grounds. Lead him to things to sniff. Do it regularly. He needs to mentally map his (huge) new landscape and feel safe doing it." Cat Intuitively Springs Into 'Mom Mode' to Comfort Sick Kitten in Moment of Pure Love
Cats are beautiful creatures. While some might find them a little standoffish, especially compared to dogs' hyper-happy personalities, their love is shown in quiet ways that can make even the coldest of hearts melt. When one tiny orange kitten was failing to thrive, his human mom wasn't sure how to nurse him back to health. Thankfully, they have an older cat at home, and her instincts and pure heart kicked in the second she saw that sick kitten. Take a second to grab a tissue before watching this clip. You'll need it. It's so hard to see anyone not doing their best, but this sweet, tiny kitten named Journey looked like they were struggling. His human foster mom was trying to help but knew someone else could give him exactly what he needed. Heartstring tug, right? This sweet young cat stepped right in to be a mom to the little guy. She didn't skip a beat, and seeing how she took him into her cuddle space, bathed him, and how easy he nuzzled right into her is the purest of love. The tiny "baby biscuits" and the way they found the cuddliest way to take a nap together are magic. We hope Journey felt all of her love before heading off to the vet. People shared their reactions to the fast relationship these two cats formed and left well wishes for Journey. One wrote, "If a cat knows a kitten is sick, they usually stay away from them or off them. She knows he is strong and deserves to fight," and someone else shared, "I had a failure-to-thrive kitten I feed round the clock. She laid on me with a heating pad for days. She is now 2 years old. She's a lot smaller than other cats but she fought hard. I'm praying." In a follow-up video, Journey's foster mom shared that he was diagnosed with " fading kitten syndrome," and the family is rallying around the little kitten to do their best to nurse him to health. What Is 'Fading Kitten Syndrome?' According to Vetster, fading kitten syndrome is also called " failure to thrive" in cats, and it happens when a newborn kitten shows signs of "overall deterioration in the earliest days of life." Symptoms include sneezing, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, and difficulty walking. "Failure to thrive cases fit into one of six categories: neonatal isoerythrolysis, congenital abnormalities, maternal abnormalities, low birth weight, infectious diseases, or environmental factors," the experts add. It's a medical emergency requiring a vet visit, which Journey's foster mom knew. While recovery may not be possible for every kitten, Vetster shares that some medical interventions may be able to help, including antibiotics, surgery, and symptom management. In Journey's foster mom's follow-up video, she explained the prognosis they received for the little one wasn't known. Still, they're doing what they can, including subcutaneous fluids, medication for blood sugar, probiotics, and other interventions from the veterinarian.
