Saint-Étienne's Ibrahim Sissoko joins Bochum
AS Saint-Étienne forward Ibrahim Sissoko (29) will leave the club upon the expiry of his deal at the end of this month to join German side VfL Bochum. Sissoko, one of the key players of Les Verts' promotion back to Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season, featured less regularly last season. He notably missed a chunk of the season for a violent challenge in a Coupe de France fixture, whilst his minutes were also limited by the arrival of Lucas Stassin, brought in to lead the line. Advertisement Saint-Étienne, who have now dropped back into Ligue 2, have opted against extending the Malian's deal. He therefore leaves on a free transfer and he has immediately found a new club. He has joined Bochum, who will play their football in the Bundesliga 2 next season. The duration of his contract has not been revealed by the German club. Ajax and Norwich City close to agreement on Medic
Jakov Medic (26) is leaving Ajax. The club has almost reached an agreement with Norwich City on the transfer of the Croatian, for which Ajax will receive approximately two million euros. The transfer is still subject to formalities and paperwork, but Ajax and Norwich City have almost reached an agreement on the fee. The Amsterdammers will receive around two million for Medic. This could increase slightly due to bonuses. Ajax paid around three million to St. Pauli for Medic in 2023. Advertisement Medic will be remembered at Ajax for his wonder goal in his debut match against Heracles Almelo, but after that, the defender mainly sat on the bench. Norwich City are edging closer to the signing of Ajax centre-back Jakov Medic, 26, who spent last season on loan in the German Bundesliga with VfL Bochum, and a deal worth up to £2.5m is close to being agreed. Scienza's last-gasp goal saves Heidenheim, ends Elversberg's Bundesliga dream
ELVERSBERG, Germany - Bundesliga side Heidenheim retained their spot in the top flight as Leo Scienza struck deep into stoppage time to seal a dramatic 2-1 win at Elversberg in the second leg of the relegation playoff on Monday. Having battled back to draw 2-2 at home in the first leg, Heidenheim, who finished in 16th place in the Bundesliga, edged a spirited Elversberg, who have never played in the top flight, 4-3 on aggregate. Mathias Honsak fired Heidenheim ahead after nine minutes, latching onto a slick through ball from Scienza, who had surged forward after winning possession in midfield. Elversberg equalised in the 31st minute after a great run by Tom Zimmerschied who set up captain Robin Fellhauer in front of goal to coolly finish past the goalkeeper. The hosts thought they had gone in front two minutes after the break when Fisnik Asllani turned home from close range, but the goal was chalked off following a VAR review for offside. Despite dominating possession, Elversberg failed to find a breakthrough, and their dream of reaching the Bundesliga slipped away when Scienza capped a great team move five minutes into stoppage time, sparking wild celebrations among the visiting fans. Heidenheim will play their second Bundesliga season, while VfL Bochum and Holstein Kiel were relegated from the top flight. Cologne and Hamburg SV won automatic promotion to the top division.
