It is a one-on-one fighting game where players select a character, a martial artist or fighter with a unique fighting style and battle opponents using punches, kicks, special moves, and combos. The most recent edition of the game, 'Street Fighter 6', was released in June 2023 and won the award for best fighting game at the 2023 Game Awards. In the movie, Jammwal will essay the role of Dalsim, a yogi with fire-spitting abilities, a fundamentally peaceful man who fights to support his family. Koji will essay the role of Ryu, Centineo as Ken, Liang as Chun-Li, Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Rhodes as Guile, Momoa as Blanka, Jackson as Balrog, Peck as Vega, Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda. Kitao Sakurai, known for movies such as 'Bad Trip' and 'Aardvark', is directing the movie, which begins production in August in Australia. Legendary is co-developing and co-producing alongside Capcom.

Fans have been waiting decades for a new live-action 'Street Fighter' adaptation since the 1994 camp cult classic, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raúl Juliá, Kylie Minogue, and Ming-Na Wen. Now, after more than two years in development, a new film is finally in the works. Vidyut Jammwal (Source: Dealine, Action Hero Films) Although the film's plot remains firmly under wraps, the project marks the Hollywood debut for both Jammwal and Goto, with the former branching out from his repertoire of Hindi films like 2013's Commando and its two sequels, and 2024's Crakk , with the 44-year-old actor being deliberate about which project to take on in order to introduce himself in the U.S. market, according to Deadline's sources, His character, Dhalsim, is a mystical yogi and a pacifist in the games, who goes against his beliefs by entering the World Warrior tournament to raise money for his poor village. Making his first appearance back in 1991's Street Fighter II: The World Warrior , Dhalsim is known for his stretchy limbs, able to extend his arms, legs, abdomen and neck to attack at range, earning him the alias 'long-arm'. The character also wields many fire-based attacks to supplement his basic moves, making him a formidable long-range fighter. Hirooki Goto (Source: Wrestling Observer) On the other hand, Japanese wrestler Goto is slated to play E. Honda in the movie, as reported by Sean Ross Sapp. The 46-year-old is a familiar face in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling scene, beginning his wrestling career back in 2003 and has clinched over 10 championships over the years, including being a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. His casting marks yet another real-world wrestler to appear in the movie, joining the ranks of WWE stars Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns as Guile and Akuma, respectively. Edmond Honda, better known as E. Honda, is another staple in the Street Fighter game franchise, making his first appearance in 1991's Street Fighter II . Honda is a professional sumo wrestler and sentō (Japanese bathhouse) proprietor, who enters the martial arts tournament to prove that sumo wrestlers are among the greatest fighters in the world. In combat, Honda is known for his offensive charge attacks, including his iconic Hundred Hand Slap, where he attacks with a rapid flow of palm strikes. Jammwal and Goto join an already stacked cast of characters in the Street Fighter movie, which to date still hasn't received a firm release window, including Andrew Koji's ( Bullet Train ) Ryu, Jason Momoa's ( Aquaman ) Blanka, Noah Centineo's ( Warfare ) Ken, Callina Liang's ( Tell me Everything ) Chun-Li, rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson's Balrog, and David Dastmalchian's ( Late Night with the Devil ) M. The movie's cast continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that the upcoming live-action movie has officially found its Dhalsim. According to Deadline's report, Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal has joined onto the cast of the movie as Dhalsim. Besides the big role, Jammwal will also be making his Hollywood debut with Street Fighter, although he's no unknown. In India, Jammwal is best known for starring in the hugely successful Commando film series. In the world of Street Fighter, Dhalsim is a mystical yogi that is a pacifist that goes against his beliefs to enter the World Warrior tournament to raise money for his poor village. His character is often shown as being one of the most moral in the Street Fighter continuity. In 1994's live-action movie, he was portrayed by British actor Roshan Seth. Goto is yet another wrestler set to appear in the movie. Previously, it was reported that WWE star Cody Rhodes will play Guile in the movie, and Akuma is also rumored to be played by none other than Joe Anoa'i, aka Roman Reigns. The cast of the upcoming Street Fighter movie features a star-studded group, including Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as Balrog.
