Filipino traveler robbed during flight to Istanbul
A Filipino business traveler was robbed mid-air during a flight from Bahrain to Istanbul, revealing a disturbing new tactic by international in-flight theft syndicates that target passengers while they sleep. In a personal account published on , Enrique M. Soriano recounted that during a past-midnight flight in business class, a flight attendant discreetly advised him to check his hand-carry bag after noticing suspicious activity. Upon inspection, he found his travel pouch had been unzipped and emptied, with only a single $1 bill left behind. Two passengers had reportedly seen the man seated behind Soriano open the overhead bin while Soriano was asleep. To avoid tipping off the suspect, the crew waited until landing before informing airport police, who immediately began questioning the man—identified as a Chinese national seated in 3D. Despite witness statements, the suspect denied any involvement, claiming there was no CCTV on board and that no official complaint was filed by the witnesses. Flight attendants later found wads of U.S. dollars and other currencies hidden in multiple overhead bins across the cabin, believed to have been scattered by the suspect and possible accomplices. The crew found U.S., Singapore, Thai, and Vietnamese money that Soriano said were his, but they also found Georgian and Azerbaijani bills, which he didn't have, suggesting other passengers were also robbed. Though not all of Soriano's money was recovered, he filed a formal complaint in Istanbul. Authorities flagged the suspect for deportation, and Soriano urged all travelers to avoid placing valuables in overhead bins and to stay alert during flights. Police said this incident follows a known method used by syndicates: stealing from unattended bags on long night flights, then hiding the cash in other bins to avoid being caught with it. Authorities also believe these syndicates are part of a growing network operating across countries, often using rented homes to plan heists and targeting both business and economy-class travelers alike. Though not all the stolen money was recovered, Soriano filed a police report and the suspect was flagged for deportation. He urged travelers to avoid placing valuables in overhead compartments and to stay alert, especially on long-haul flights with dimmed cabin lights.

Police raid illegal e-cigarette factory
PATHUM THANI: Police raided an illegal e-cigarette manufacturing facility in Khu Khot district early Saturday morning, seizing more than 21,000 e-cigarette devices and arresting 29 suspects, including foreign nationals. Officers armed with a court warrant stormed a three-storey commercial building on Phahon Yothin Soi 80 in Lam Luk Ka district, which had been converted into a large-scale e-cigarette production site. Behind the office and workers' accommodation buildings, police discovered a sprawling factory covering 3–4 rai. The raid resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals: one Chinese national, seven Thais, two Vietnamese and 19 Cambodians. The Chinese suspect, identified as Lu Jinke, was allegedly the production supervisor and trainer for assembling the devices. Authorities confiscated 21,200 e-cigarettes of various brands, valued at 6.1 million baht. They also seized equipment including plastic sealing machines, smoke testers, e-liquid filling machines and other assembly tools. The raid stemmed from an arrest two weeks ago, when police apprehended three suspects — one of them a foreigner — at a retail outlet selling disposable e-cigarettes. The suspects admitted sourcing their products from the raided factory, prompting a further investigation. Investigations revealed that the site was formerly a marble polishing factory. In early 2025, a Thai-registered company leased the site for 150,000 baht per month and began covertly producing disposable e-cigarettes. The factory had recently started transitioning to refillable models and had already received orders. Police said the facility was in the process of installing a conveyor-belt production line to increase output. Until now, assembly had been done manually under the guidance of the Chinese technician. The factory price for each disposable e-cigarette was around 130 baht, with distribution focused on Bangkok and surrounding provinces. All of the suspects and seized items were handed over to the Khu Khot police station in Lam Luk Ka for legal proceedings.

Murder suspect's girlfriend charged over abetting his escape from Hong Kong
The girlfriend of a murder suspect has been charged and remanded in custody in Hong Kong on suspicion of helping the alleged offender flee to mainland China by boat as police continue to search for the missing woman. Police also recovered a mobile phone believed to belong to the missing Vietnamese national in Ma Wan, a source confirmed on Friday, but efforts to uncover human remains have been unsuccessful so far. The suspect, Nguyen Minh Nghia, is believed to have fled Hong Kong after allegedly killing a 49-year-old compatriot who was reported missing last Saturday. The suspect's 25-year-old girlfriend, Vy Thi Lieu, appeared at Kowloon City Court on a count of assisting an offender with the intent to impede his apprehension or prosecution. A charge sheet available for media inspection showed the defendant was a recognisance form holder, which is often granted to asylum seekers and allows them to temporarily stay in the city but not to work, and that she lived in a subdivided flat in Sham Shui Po. It said the accused had helped Nguyen 'escape to [mainland] China by ship' on June 23 'with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of that person', knowing that he had committed murder or other arrestable offences. The accused did not apply for bail and will be detained until the next hearing in August. The source said officers had earlier collected some evidence that was not human remains at a location near Hoi Fai Road in Tai Kok Tsui. Clothes thought to belong to the missing woman were also found, the insider added. Police suspected foul play in the case on Monday and decided to check a flat inside a building at 152 Castle Peak Road on Tuesday evening. Checks on surveillance footage in the area had revealed the male suspect leaving the building multiple times while carrying suspicious, heavy-looking bags, but the missing woman was never seen leaving the building after her entry. The suspect was also caught on surveillance cameras dumping these bags in alleys and multiple rubbish bins in the area. - SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST

Green SM recognized for green leadership at AREA 2025
Ms. Phan Thi Hong Dung – Director of Training and Culture Development at GSM (center) represented the company to receive the award at the event. BANGKOK, THAILAND – Media OutReach Newswire – 28 June 2025 Founded in 2011 by Enterprise Asia, AREA is among the most respected awards in Asia for corporate sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility. The 2025 theme, 'A Necessary Shift to a Regenerative Economy,' highlights the growing expectation for businesses to restore ecosystems and deliver sustainable value to communities. Green SM stood out in the Green Leadership category for its scalable and inclusive approach to electrifying urban transport. The company operates its own fleet of electric vehicles, while also offering a technology platform – the Green SM Platform, allowing individual VinFast EV owners to join the service. In addition, Green SM also partners with traditional taxi operators to support their transition to electric vehicles. Together, these three components form a flexible, open ecosystem that accelerates the shift toward green mobility in Vietnam and beyond. ADVERTISEMENT 'Sustainability at Green SM goes beyond strategy. It is deeply embedded in our everyday decisions, our culture, and how we grow,' said Ms. Phan Thi Hong Dung, Director of Training and Culture Development at GSM, at the award ceremony. 'We believe that a truly sustainable model only works when every individual within the ecosystem chooses to live green, work green, and serve their community with kindness and responsibility. Each ride with Green SM not only helps reduce emissions but also encourages positive habits and sets new standards for sustainable living in society. We are proud that Green SM's journey toward global expansion has been recognized on such a prominent platform in Asia.' The award marks a significant milestone in Green SM's broader 'Go Green Global' journey. This recognition goes beyond a single Vietnamese enterprise. It reflects Vietnam's growing potential to drive innovation, scale impactful solutions, and contribute a long-term ecosystem perspective to the global green transformation. In just two years, the company has expanded beyond Vietnam into Laos, Indonesia, and the Philippines, completing more than 300 million trips, covering 1.7 billion zero-emission kilometers. The total reduction in CO₂ emissions is estimated at over 211,000 tons, equivalent to the annual carbon absorption capacity of approximately 3,200 hectares of forest. Back home in Vietnam, the company leads the electric taxi market with nearly 40% market share and has partnered with nearly 100 local transport businesses to support their electrification journeys. Big local names such as G7 Taxi, Mai Linh, Lado Taxi, and En Vang have joined the effort with 19 companies fully converting their fleets to electric vehicles. This marks a defining shift: green mobility is no longer an alternative, but a new standard in modern urban transport. With operations now spanning four Southeast Asian countries, Green SM is the second-largest ride-hailing brand in the region and the only one powered entirely by electric vehicles. Its ability to operate efficiently across diverse markets with varying infrastructure and user behaviors is a strong testament to the company's capacity for large-scale deployment, high adaptability, and strategic regional vision as a Vietnamese brand.
