Vihaan Samat on disappointment of losing film to a star kid: ‘The father, mother, uncle, whatever, was funding the film'
The debate around nepotism in Bollywood continues to spark conversation, especially as many outsiders find themselves being replaced by star kids in major projects. In a recent conversation with Free Press Journal, Vihaan Samat opened up about losing a role in a film due to nepotism. Vihaan Samat recalls being replaced by a star kid in a film. Vihaan revealed, "There has been a movie that I wanted to do, and they eventually gave it to someone who was son, daughter, nephew of someone. And because that person, who was the father, mother, uncle, aunt, whatever, was funding the film. That's how and that's why they went that way. So, I mean, really, can you blame them? Because they are literally spending money on a movie. So the movie probably wouldn't be made if they didn't have a reason to spend that money. So I'm sure there's been a couple of instances that have happened. You kind of just learn how to ignore that and move on. But it was a bit disappointing.' He added, "I also think any of us, if we're parents, we want to give our children the best possible future. So I think that's what's happening in terms of the way people are funding things, the way people are casting things. Now, does that mean that people who might be more naturally suited or naturally fit the background of the role miss out on that role? Yes. Is that disappointing? Yeah, it is disappointing. But it's like saying, is life disappointing? Yeah, it is disappointing. But are you going to go and say that life is unfair, change it? You do your best, and hopefully your efforts will be rewarded in due course.' Vihaan added that even though the journey in the entertainment industry is complicated and tough for an outsider, with the path not usually visible, it eventually ends up being fruitful. Vihaan Samat's work so far Vihaan Samat began his career with a supporting role in the feature film Worth, starring Michael Keaton. He rose to prominence with Netflix's Mismatched, which earned him recognition. Since then, Vihaan has appeared in shows like Eternally Confused and Eager for Love and the upcoming series Call Me Bae, alongside Ananya Panday. He also featured opposite her in the film CTRL, further cementing his growing presence in both web and film projects. He was last seen in the web series The Royals. Helmed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana and written by Neha Veena Sharma, the show also features Bhumi Pednekar, Ishaan Khatter, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Vihaan Samat, Dino Morea, and Milind Soman. While the first season received criticism for its portrayal of royal families and the performances of some cast members, it has now been renewed for season 2.

The four pillars of Delhi's heritage
When Arnav Vij, Aryan Bardeja, Vihaan Tampi and Karissa Gupta discovered that their school stood right next to a historic gurudwara—home to a large rock where Bhagat Singh once tested bombs ahead of the famous Central Legislative Assembly bombing in 1929—they were stunned. The realisation that they passed daily by a site of such historical importance moved the young history enthusiasts to do something about it. 'It made us realise that in a culturally rich city like Delhi, there are countless lesser-known or hidden places with deep historical and cultural significance,' says Vihaan. Thus was born WaPas or Walking Past—an app that guides users through historical monuments across Delhi-NCR. Developed by the four Class XII students of Noida's Shiv Nadar School, WaPas uses GPS and geotagging to help users rediscover the history they walk past every day, one notification at a time. 'It's a navigation app that tells users about nearby monuments, historical places, and landmarks—especially the lesser-known ones,' says Aryan. The app currently features over 500 monuments and heritage sites. 'We wanted to cover both the famous and the forgotten,' says Arnav, adding, 'For instance, near Feroz Shah Kotla, there are old watchtowers that are largely neglected. We've also mapped small mosques, several gurudwaras, besides well-known sites like the Red Fort and Humayun's Tomb.' WaPas acts as a pocket-sized heritage guide. 'Our goal is to raise awareness about the heritage in our own neighbourhoods,' says Vihaan, who led the app's development, adding, 'We hope the app becomes a catalyst for people to visit and appreciate these lesser-known sites.'

Pakistan airspace ban costs Air India Rs8.2b in 40 days
Listen to article As the airspace ban Pakistan slapped on Indian carriers drags on for forty days, the cost for Air India is turning from heavy to near-unsustainable, aviation sources said on Wednesday. The Indian national carrier has already taken a hit of over Rs8.2 billion since the closure began. According to well-placed aviation insiders, Air India is bleeding approximately Rs200 million each day due to longer alternate routes, increased fuel consumption and delays triggered by the airspace detour. In a sign of rising frustration, Air India's Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson has formally written to the Indian government, highlighting the scale of financial damage. In the letter, Wilson reportedly warned that continued restrictions could render airline operations unsustainable if not addressed soon. According to The Economic Times, an internal presentation showed that Air India had, late last year, set a target to become profitable by FY 27. However, the closure of Pakistani airspace for Indian carriers is likely to delay that. 'It will still take a little bit more time to achieve what we want to achieve, but it was a five-year project in the beginning,' Wilson said in the interview to the Economic Times, referring to the five-year transformation plan 'Vihaan' announced in September 2022. 'The closure of Pakistani airspace, which started on April 24, has forced Air India's flights to North America to take detours and stop in Vienna or Copenhagen to refuel, leading to increased expenses,' the report noted. 'It's not insignificant, but…as long as it covers the cost of operation, we will continue to operate,' Wilson said. 'We don't know the extent to which the bottom line is going to be affected. We will try to minimise the effect.' The CEO's concerns are not limited to Air India alone. Other Indian carriers have also reportedly suffered billions of rupees in cumulative losses, though precise estimates remain undisclosed. 'This isn't just turbulence, it's a full-blown storm for Indian aviation,' a senior aviation official remarked, noting that the 40-day closure has upended flight logistics, increased operational costs, and complicated international schedules for Indian carriers. The airspace restrictions, which came into effect in the wake of heightened diplomatic tensions, have now completed 40 days, with no breakthrough in sight. For airlines forced to circumvent Pakistani airspace, the sky is not only the limit but also a costly detour. As the ban continues, industry experts warn that Indian carriers might soon be compelled to cut routes or hike fares, passing the burden onto passengers, unless diplomatic channels find a way to clear the air.
