Krishna Jal Yatra launched from Kudalasangama

Vijayapura: Krishna Jal Yatra , undertaken by Krishna Kutumba and involving water experts, activists, seers, students, and the public at large, was launched from Kudalasangama on Monday. Inaugurating the Yatra at Kudalasangama, Hunagund MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar said Krishna River is the lifeline of the Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Raichur, and Yadgir districts. "Its conservation is everyone's responsibility. The state govt is committed to conserving the river, but there is a need for the cooperation of each individual of the river basin," he added. Water expert Rajendra Poddar said the river basin is suffering from encroachment, sand mining, unscientific bridges, and increasing silt. "This yatra is apolitical and involves water enthusiasts from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, where Krishna River flows. We are creating awareness on how to keep the river basin clean," he stated. Former MLC MP Nadagouda, Virateeshananda Swamiji Managuli, Satyanarayan, Narendra Choogha, Mallamma Yalawar, Amaresh Naganur, and other activists from Karnataka and neighbouring states were present. The Yatra travelled through the Almatti Dam site, where farmers and engineers discussed issues of the dam, Chikkapadasalagi, Vijayapura, and other towns and villages.
