Vijayawada will be developed as a tourist hub with grand celebrations during Dasara Utsavams, says NTR District Collector
The State government is planning to develop Vijayawada, the gateway to Amaravati, as a tourist hub. Vijayawada will be decked up as 'City of Victory' by improving the tourism projects, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha. Participating in the 'Yogandhra Success Meet' organised here on Friday, Mr. Lakshmisha said that Vijayawada Utsav will be celebrated on a grand scale during Dasara Utsavams. Vijayawada city will be decked up for the utsavams. All the junctions, Prakasam barrage, main roads and temples would be illuminated during Dasara Maharatri Utsavams, the Collector said. Highlighting Vijayawada's potential in tourism, Mr. Lakshmisha said several thematic tourism projects are in progress, including Temple Tourism, Ecotourism, and the Buddhist Circuit. He added that initiatives such as the Mulapadu Butterfly Park, Kondapalli Toys Experience Centre, the revival of the Gandhi Hill Project, and illumination of Krishna River ghats and heritage sites are also being taken up. He thanked the people of different sections and the officers of various departments, including Ayush, Medical and Health, Information and Public Relations and the Yogandhra nodal officer for making Yogandhra programme a grand success. Painting competition on July 13 The Collector said that a painting competition will be organised at Haritha Berm Park, at 6.30 a.m. on July 13 (Sunday) on various government programmes. Artists and students can sketch paintings on the themes 'Say no to single-use plastic', 'Swachhandhra – Swarnandhra', 'Save Water', 'Harithandhra' and 'P4' (Public-Private-People- Partnership), and win cash prizes from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000, he said. Vijayawada gears up for grand cultural carnival during Dasara
Vijayawada: The city is gearing up to celebrate its cultural identity and heritage with the revival of 'Vijayawada Utsav'—a grand cultural carnival set to coincide with the upcoming Dasara festivities. Designed to showcase the spiritual, cultural, scientific, and artistic richness of the region, the Utsav promises an immersive experience for thousands of devotees and tourists visiting during Dasara Navratri. City MP Kesineni Sivanath stated, "Vijayawada is more than just a gateway to the Goddess Kanakadurga. It's a city with deep cultural and historical roots. 'Vijayawada Utsav' will celebrate that legacy. We want every visitor to carry back memories of the city's spirit." The carnival is expected to feature a series of entertainment and cultural events across key city landmarks such as Haritha Berm Park, Punnami Ghat, Bhavani Island, Pavitra Sangamam, and Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. Special food courts will be arranged to introduce local cuisine to the tourists. Kondapalli handicrafts and Pedana Kalamkari clothes will be given special display at this fest," Kesineni further said. Collector Dr G Lakshmisha said, "The Utsav will reflect the pride of our people. It's a celebration of our local traditions and creative energies. We're working to ensure the city is ready to welcome visitors with grandeur and grace." Officials are also looking to revive the long-discontinued city exhibition as part of the festival, with a vision to reintroduce the industrial and agricultural heritage once showcased by the Exhibition Society. ‘Vijayawada Utsav' plan for during Dasara
Vijayawada: Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) announced that efforts are underway to bring to life the 'Vijayawada Utsav' – a festival designed to showcase the grandeur of the city during the annual Dasara festivities atop Indrakeeladri. The event aims at reflecting the city's rich educational, scientific, cultural, and artistic heritage. Sivanath participated in a preliminary meeting concerning the 'Vijayawada Utsav' at the Collectorate here on Friday. Also present were district Collector Dr G Lakshmisha, Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu, and Municipal Commissioner Dhyanachandra HM, among others. They discussed the feasibility and various aspects of organising the festival, focusing on activities that would enhance the city's spiritual, cultural, and tourism legacy, while also promoting tourism. Opinions were solicited on incorporating various programmes that blend knowledge and entertainment. During the meeting, MP Chinni stated that the aim is to organise programmes that offer a memorable experience for the millions of devotees visiting Vijayawada for Goddess Kanaka Durga's darshan, not only from across Andhra Pradesh but also from other states. He mentioned plans to hold diverse events at locations such as Haritha Berm Park, Punnami Ghat, Bhavani Island, Pavithra Sangamam, and Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. The MP elaborated that focus would be placed on promoting folk arts, organising various cultural programmes, food festivals, water sports, drone shows, laser shows, and theme beautification. Furthermore, efforts are being made to restore the former glory of the Exhibition Society by organising a mega exhibition. MP Chinni concluded by stating that the 'Vijayawada Fest' would proceed by taking into consideration all suggestions and advice received. District Tourism Officer A Shilpa and representatives from the Exhibition Society were also present at the meeting.
