Academicians should play key role to make India self-reliant, says NITI Aayog Member V.K. Saraswat
NITI Aayog Member V.K. Saraswat on Saturday appealed to the research scholars, academic institutions and entrepreneurs to play a key role in building a self-reliant India as the Centre has increased spending on Research and Development to over ₹1.27 lakh crore under the mission Viksit Bharat-2047. Mr. Saraswat has delivered a keynote address during the inaugural session of the two-day national seminar on 'Leveraging Research and Innovation for Viksit Bharat@2047' at Godavari Global University here on Saturday. Mr. Saraswat has stated; 'Viksit Bharat-2047 is not just a dream, but it is a shared responsibility of every India'. In his address, Vice Chairman of All India Council of Technical Education Abhay Jere has observed that research and innovation are keys to transforming India into a knowledge economy through higher education institutions.

Centre launches initiative to equip rural girls with vocational training in non-traditional, emerging jobs
NEW DELHI: The centre on Tuesday launched a pilot project in 19 states that aims to equip adolescent girls aged 16-18 years from underprivileged and rural backgrounds with vocational training mainly in non-traditional and emerging job roles. The project 'NAVYA' – Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls - will be implemented in 27 districts of the country, which include aspirational districts and districts of Northeastern states spanning across 19 states. Girls, with a minimum qualification of Class 10, will be identified by the Ministry of Women and Child Development ministry and will be trained through short-term skill development courses under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), with the potential to eventually establish small businesses of their own. The initiative to empower young girls was launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), in convergence with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) with the aim to further the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. The initiative was launched at Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh. Under the programme, adolescent girls will be trained in skills such as graphic design, telecom and financial services, smartphone and drone assembly, solar PV and CCTV Installation, and hand embroidery - empowering them for emerging opportunities in a rapidly evolving job market.

IIT-Patna conclave discusses rural transformation
Patna: Policymakers, technologists, domain experts and grassroots change-makers deliberated on innovative and sustainable solutions for rural development at a national conclave, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, hosted by Foundation for Innovators in Science and Technology (Fist) at IIT-Patna on Thursday. Inaugurating the conclave, IIT-P director T N Singh expressed his appreciation for the multidisciplinary approach of the conclave and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to research and innovation geared toward rural transformation. He called upon the stakeholders to work hard to ensure the complete transformation of rural India with a view to making the country developed. Introducing the central theme of the conclave, Fist's chief executive officer Praveen Kumar underscored the critical need for technological innovations in addressing the industrial challenges in rural sectors. He highlighted ongoing initiatives at Fist that bridge the gap between research findings and their on-ground application, particularly through entrepreneurship and technology incubation. The chairman of the Viksit Bharat Project - Mission 2047 presented an overview of its objectives and emphasised the shared responsibilities of the govt, academia, startups and civil society in transforming India's villages into engines of inclusive growth and innovation. Prominent among those who participated in the deliberations were HSPC director Afsar Imam, Gujarat-based TS University's Jeena Madan, Hostage India's Chairman Sandeep Gupta and ILCS' general manager Prem Sharma.

COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi, along with former Chiefs of Army Staff calls on President Droupadi Murmu
New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, along with other former Chiefs of Army Staff, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, the President of India confirmed in a post on an official social media handle. Former Chiefs of Army Staff General VP Malik, General NC Vij, General JJ Singh, General Deepak Kapoor, General Bikram Singh and General Manoj Pande were accompanied by General Upendra Dwivedi to the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Earlier, in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army held a 'Chiefs Chintan' at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi to strengthen coordination between former Chiefs of Army Staff and to leverage their expertise and strategic insights. 'Chief's Chintan, an interaction between General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS and the former CsOAS, was held at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. The event, conducted after Operation SINDOOR, aims to leverage the vast experience and strategic insights of former CsOAS to shape the Indian Army's future,' read a post by the Army on X. According to an official statement, the event had a comprehensive operational briefing on Operation Sindoor, including discussing the synergised conduct of operations with the Indian Air Force and Navy. 'The operation's execution, strategic impact and jointmanship model were presented in detail to provide contextual understanding and invite insights from the former Chiefs. The former Chiefs were also updated on the induction of niche technologies and modernisation initiatives aimed at enhancing operational capabilities,' the statement added. The army said that the former CsOAS shared 'valuable insights and recommendations, contributing to ongoing capability enhancement and organisational reforms.' Other topics such as technological initiatives for tech absorption, the plan of 'Viksit Bharat @2047' and the Army's contributions to it, and Human Resource and Veteran Welfare, including reforms in HR policies and initiatives for welfare schemes for veterans. The former CsOAS shared insights and recommendations. contributing to the Indian Army's ongoing efforts towards capability enhancement and organisational reform. The statement added, 'The interaction reaffirms the continuity of leadership and collective commitment to keep the Indian Army future-ready.' (ANI)
