'This is our time': Palmer-Brown and Panathinaikos target Rangers comeback

Erik Palmer-Brown claimed Panathinaikos are 'really confident' they can overturn a 2-0 deficit at home to Rangers in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier in Athens on Wednesday. The Greeks went down 2-0 at Ibrox last Tuesday as Russell Martin's side seized the initiative in the battle to set up a third qualifying round clash with Viktoria Plzen or Servette. But American defender Palmer-Brown is adamant the Greeks are still firmly in the tie and can get the victory required to oust the William Hill Premiership side. 'I think we have to be ready, this is our time,' he said at his team's pre-match media briefing on Tuesday. 'I think over this last week we all have felt really confident and believe in ourselves to go out there and do what is needed. 'We're playing at our house in front of our fans and we know their expectations and what we expect of ourselves as well. We're going to go out there and give it our all. 'Of course, we know we have to score three goals as of now and we don't plan on giving any up. That's our goal as well, so we've got to go out there and perform at a really high level because we know they're coming to win as well. 'This is a good team and we know that we're going to have to go out there and do our best and give everything we have.' Panathinaikos spurned a series of chances at Ibrox and their cause was not helped by the fact they played the last half-hour with 10 men. 'I think we did a lot of things well but I don't think we finished off our chances that we created and ultimately that hurt us in the end of the game,' said Palmer-Brown. 'I think also on transition we can do better on stopping their two goals. If we put our chances away again that we had, maybe this doesn't happen. But this is football and sometimes it is cruel and you get unlucky sometimes. 'In this game, we need to take advantage of the chances we create, and we will do that.' ‘It's a club where people's dreams come true‘ – Marcus Rashford completes loan move to Barcelona

The 27-year-old academy product has not added to his 426 first-team appearances for the Red Devils since being hauled off in a Europa League match away to Viktoria Plzen on December 12. Rashford ended last season on loan at Aston Villa and is among five wantaway players that have been training away from Ruben Amorim's first-team squad since pre-season began, as they explored their options in the transfer market. 'I'm very excited,' Rashford told Barcelona club media. 'I think it's a club where people's dreams come true and they win big prizes. And what the club stands for really means a lot to me as well. It feels like home and this is a big factor in my choice to come here. 'For me it's a family club and people are comfortable here, it's a good place for good players to showcase their skills.' Rashford added that he had enjoyed watching Barcelona since a young age and that he was attracted by coach Hansi Flick's desire to build on a season in which they won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercup. 'I'm definitely full of excitement and I'm just hungry to go out there and help this team win,' he said. 'They won so much last year year and I can see the ambition of the club is to do even better, and as a player that's what you want. We need your consent to load this Social Media content. I'm excited to be here and I'm eager to get going.' The LaLiga champions confirmed that they have an option to make the deal permanent. That clause is reported to be 35million euros (£30.3million) and it is understood the deal sees Barcelona cover Rashford's wages for the campaign. The Premier League club said: 'Everyone at Manchester United wishes Marcus good luck for the season.' Rashford completed the relevant paperwork on Wednesday and is set to wear the number 14 with the Blaugrana. Both he and Barca have made no secret of their hope to make the move happen this summer, with talks ramping up over the last week. The forward landed in Catalonia on Sunday evening to tie up a deal that the player hope can kickstart his career and boost his hopes of going to next summer's World Cup with England. Rashford departs 23rd in United's all-time appearance list and as their 15th-highest scorer with 138 goals, having notched a brace on his February 2016 debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League. He won five major trophies with his boyhood club and was crowned their player of the year in 2022-23 after scoring a career-high 30 goals, which saw him rewarded with a reported £325,000-a-week deal until 2028. The forward missed his penalty in the European Championship final shootout defeat to Italy in 2021. As Rashford heads to start a new chapter in Spain, work continues at Old Trafford to offload Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. The quartet have not travelled on United's pre-season tour of the United States.

What time and TV channel is Rangers v Panathinaikos on in the Champions League?

Rangers face Panathinaikos in Russell Martin's first competitive game in charge at Ibrox. It's a massive UEFA Champions League second round qualifier, with Rangers at home first before travelling to the scorching heat of Athens next week. The winners of the tie will face Czech side Viktoria Plzen or Swiss outfit Servette in the next qualifying round. Rangers have to go through three qualifying rounds if they are to reach the Champions League group stage. They lost 3-1 on aggregate to Dynamo Kiev in the third qualifying round last year. Here's what you need to know: Where and when is it? The match takes place at Ibrox on Wednesday, July 22. What time is kick-off? The action is scheduled to get under way at 7.45pm. What TV channel is it on? Premier Sports 1 will show the match live, with their coverage starting at 7.15pm. Quotes corner Rangers manager Russell Martin: "It's not going to be a season-defining game. It's not. It's a really, really big game. "The season is a long season. We'll be defined by what we do between now and May. "I've been so pleased over four weeks, but it's not a long time. Tomorrow is going to be a real big test for us to see how far along we are and see how much work we have to do. "That's the most interesting and exciting bit for us as a coaching staff, is that tomorrow we will learn a lot about the group and learn a lot about what we need to prioritise moving forward over the next few weeks. "One of the things that has to come out of it is that the supporters leave feeling positively about their team, their new look, the way it is going to start to shape up. "Hopefully, the fans will leave feeling excited about what is to come and start feeling a real connection because I think, if we can be connected, the whole club, Ibrox here, the supporters. If this club has that, with that energy, I think it is going to take some stopping." Betting odds Rangers win: 7/10 Panathinaikos win: 4/1 Draw: 29/10

Martin and Tavernier speak to media ahead of Champions League qualifier

Rangers head coach Russell Martin and captain James Tavernier are speaking to the media ahead of their first Champions League qualifier. The Ibrox club host Greek side Panathinaikos in Glasgow on Tuesday in what will be their first competitive game of the new season. It will also be Martin's first game in the Rangers dugout other than pre-season friendlies. Earlier on Monday, they learned that if they get past Panathinaikos, they will face a trip to the Czech Republic or Switzerland in the third round of qualifiers. The winners of the Viktoria Plzen and Servette will be next up in their quest towards the holy grail of the Champions League. However, if they are knocked out by the Athens club, then they have been handed a tough Europa League draw against either Besiktas from Turkey or Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. The second, and ultimately decisive return leg of the game against Panathinaikos will take place in Athens next Wednesday.
