Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop and Bucket Set review: ‘It's the only mop I turn to for deep cleans'

What is the Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop and Bucket Set? A good mop, much like the best vacuum cleaners, makes cleaning easier, no matter the dirt or stains. However, a poor spin mop and bucket can ruin the experience. If it doesn't wring out enough water, floors can end up soaked. This is particularly problematic for laminate or wood flooring, which is prone to water damage. So, when I spotted that Vileda's 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop and Bucket Set came with an innovative splash protecting barrier and easy pour spout, I was intrigued. Of the thirteen mops I tried, this one stood out as the Best Buy overall. Priced between £30 and £48, depending on sales and retailers, it offers solid mid-range value. But is it the right fit for your home? Here's everything you need to know about the 3-in-1 system. JUMP TO: How we test mops To test this specific mop and bucket I tried it out on a range of flooring types – laminate, hardwood and vinyl – to see how it tackled dirt, dust, spills and stains. I even scattered wet coffee grounds on the floor to evaluate how much effort was needed to clean them up, and whether any residue was left behind. I also paid close attention to how well the mop reached corners and tight spots, as well as how effectively it covered the floor overall. Comfort and usability were key considerations too, including whether the handle could be adjusted to suit different heights and let me reach under certain items of furniture. As for the mop head itself, I assessed how easy it was to remove, replace and clean. After using the Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop and Bucket Set over several months, it's still the one I reach for whenever I'm looking to do a deeper and more thorough clean. Performance Score: 9/10 For those cleaning a mix of hard floors, this set is an excellent choice. Just remember to avoid over saturating wood floors with water, as it can cause damage. That's where a spin mop like Vileda's 3 in 1 system comes in handy, wringing out liquid efficiently and preventing drips. While it is wetter than a spray mop, where you can control how much water is dispensed, it wasn't so wet as to be problematic – just expect a slightly longer drying time. One pass was often enough to leave my floors clean and streak-free finish, although tougher stains needed extra scrubbing. The mop head's dense middle pad tackled these well, making quick work of the coffee grounds without scratching Meanwhile, the microfibre strands were fantastic at picking up dust along edges and under furniture. For more stubborn grime or to vacuum and mop in one go, you might want to consider an all-in-one hard floor cleaner, such as the Dyson Wash G1. Score: 8/10 Moving from one flooring type to another, or in the same room, the mop glides smoothly for a thorough clean. I didn't experience any resistance as I pushed it along, even when encountering dried muddy footprints or debris. Because of this, it helped keep on top of my small entryway, which can often become quite dirty. The way in which the mop head swivels around also came in handy for pushing it under lower items of furniture without having to crouch down or put myself into an awkward position. It performed nicely under my bed and low sofas, allowing me to access areas a traditional vacuum cleaner can't. Mop head design Score: 9/10 Unlike circular spin or string mops, this triangular design reaches right into corners and tight nooks, which sets it apart from the rest of the market. Plus, it performed equally well on laminate, tiles and vinyl floors. As with most microfibre options, you don't need to use a separate cleaning solution. This makes it a great option if you're going chemical-free or want to avoid the extra cost of floor cleaners. The microfibre draws dirt and grime into the wet fibres, saving you from having to scrub quite as vigorously as you might with another mop head material. The mop head is machine washable too, and replacement heads cost around £9.99. I found it easy to detach when dirty without getting my hands messy, which was a welcome bonus. Handle design Score: 9/10 Coming with one of the best telescopic handles of all the mops that I've tried, it lets you adjust its height in seconds, providing a comfortable position regardless of how tall you are. While other mops typically only extend or retract by around 20cm to 30cm, Vileda's ranges from 85cm to 135cm without difficulty, to save you from leaning over too much or straining when tackling your floors or reaching below particular items of furniture. I especially liked making it that bit longer when getting right under my living room sideboard and TV stand, which can often be a bit of a pain to access when cleaning. It is comfortable to hold for extended periods of time, making it a great choice if you tend to mop all of your floors consecutively, rather than cleaning one room at a time. Additional features Score: 8/10 The Vileda 3 in 1 may not have built-in extras like a spray or scrubber, but the bucket offers some clever features. If you've used a spin mop before and ended up with water on your floor, you'll appreciate the splash protecting barrier. Even when I pressed the pedal several times in a row, not a single drop escaped. The bucket also has an easy pour spout, which saves you from having to completely upend the bucket to empty it. This is especially helpful if you have a smaller sink or mobility concerns, as it reduces strain and effort when dealing with heavy water. Technical specifications When it comes to spin mops, one of Vileda's biggest competitors has to be the Leifheit Clean Twist Disc Mop with Wheeled Bucket. It also performed reliably when I compiled my tested round-up of the best mops. They are quite similar in many ways, with both having standout buckets. But, how do the two ultimately compare? Should you buy the Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop and Bucket Set? Even though there are more affordable spin mop and bucket sets on the market at the moment, the Vileda 3 in 1 is well worth the investment, especially when you take into consideration its clever triangular shaped mop head and innovative bucket. Yes, if: You're looking to get right into corners or tricky nooks You prefer a microfibre mop You want the option to use fewer or no chemicals when mopping No, if: Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop and Bucket Set FAQs How do you assemble and use the Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop & Bucket Set? The set comes in four parts – there's a telescopic handle, a triangular mop frame, a microfibre mop head and the bucket. To fix the microfibre head onto the attachment, align it and push it in firmly until it clicks. Then attach the handle to the frame and twist it to adjust it to the correct height, and you're ready to go. Is the Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Spin Mop suitable for all floor types? Because you can adjust the level of dampness by wringing the mop head with the bucket's pedal-operated spin system, this mop 'is suitable for all kinds of flooring,' explains Vileda's cleaning expert, Clare Bolland. 'For more delicate floors such as laminate and hardwood, it's important to avoid excessive moisture which can cause damage, so make sure you give the mop an extra spin to ensure it is wrung out thoroughly,' she adds. How do you wash and replace the Vileda 3 in 1 Turbo Mop head and how often? As the microfibre mop head is reusable, it can be washed and reused over and over. According to the brand, 'it can be machine washed at up to 40C' and they suggest replacing it 'every six months to maintain its effectiveness and cleaning power'.
