Odisha to revise 2021 EV Policy
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to launch EV Policy 2.0 aiming to have at least 50 per cent battery-operated electric vehicles (BEVs) in all new vehicle registrations by 2036. The State is in the process of revising the Odisha EV (electric vehicle) Policy 2021 with an extension of validity and enhancement of incentives for EV buyers and Charge Point Operators (CPOs), an official statement said on Wednesday. The policy framework was discussed at a meeting held here in the presence of Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, and Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy. Senior officials from both the departments took part in comprehensive discussions aimed at advancing Odisha's electric mobility transition and achieving key targets. Registration of EVs are on the rise in the State, from 1.16 per cent in 2021 to 8.71 per cent on June 20, 2025, according to the statement. It was resolved to aim for at least 50 per cent BEVs in all new vehicle registrations by 2036. Odisha currently has over 550 Public Charging Stations (PCS), including captive infrastructure operated by two-wheeler manufacturers, power distribution companies and oil marketing companies. The State Transport Authority (STA) has already issued a request for proposal for developing EV charging stations at strategic locations across the State. A holistic approach is being adopted to boost both supply (manufacturing ecosystem) and demand (consumer incentives) to ensure balanced and inclusive EV growth. The revised EV policy aims to promote green mobility, reduce carbon emission and transform the State into a model EV ecosystem in the country.

According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the state is currently revising its Odisha EV Policy 2021, focusing on extending its validity and enhancing incentives for EV buyers and Charge Point Operators (CPOs). The revamped policy is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in the state. A high-level meeting held in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, and Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy, reviewed the roadmap for EV growth. Senior officials from both departments participated in extensive deliberations to strategize Odisha's transition toward sustainable mobility. EV adoption in state The state has already witnessed a significant rise in EV adoption—up from 1.16per cent of new registrations in 2021 to 8.71per cent as of June 20, 2025. Odisha currently operates over 550 public charging stations (PCS), including captive infrastructure from two-wheeler OEMs, oil marketing firms, and power utilities. To expand charging infrastructure, the State Transport Authority (STA) has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the development of EV charging stations at key locations statewide. The revised policy will follow a holistic approach, aiming to boost both the supply side through support for local manufacturing and the demand side via consumer incentives—ensuring balanced and inclusive growth in the state's EV ecosystem.

Single-window panel approves seven RE projects worth Rs 1,191 crore
BHUBANESWAR: The single-window committee (SWC) of the Energy department chaired by principal secretary Vishal Kumar Dev has granted in-principle approval to seven renewable energy (RE) projects in the state. With a cumulative capacity of 149.97 MW entailing an investment of `1191.47 crore, the approved proposals include two wind power projects of 95.7 MW, four ground-based solar projects of 53.97 MW and the first battery storage project of 0.6 MWh. These projects will strengthen the state's progress towards achieving its RE goals under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022, Dev said . During the meeting, progress of various projects approved in the last SWC meeting was also reviewed. The proactive RE policy of the state government has streamlined the processes through the single-window committee and GRIDCO, the nodal agency, continues to attract investments in the renewable energy sector. The SWC has so far accorded in-principle approval for investment proposals worth Rs 12,387.36 crore for a total capacity of 1,707.56 MW in the RE sector.
