Farmer donates land for school in Maharashtra village
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jul 21 (PTI) A 55-year-old farmer, whose quest for education was cut short, has donated 4,000 sq ft of land for a school to ensure a better future for the children of his village in Maharashtra's Beed district.
Earlier this month, Vishnu Raotale donated land worth Rs 2 lakh for a school in Ravtale Vasti village in Shirur Kasar tehsil, around 110 km away from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The village was sanctioned a primary school in 2001, but there was no land available. The school has since been functioning in a makeshift manner under a tin shed on open grounds, pastures and during rains, in the verandahs of people's houses, an official said.
He said the school caters to 24 children from Classes 1 to 4.
Arjun Badhe, a teacher, said the school functioned on an open land, and sometimes people would give them rooms to conduct classes, but nothing was permanent.
Raotale observed the struggles, as his grandson was also a student at the school.
